"Simply put, Cosmic Rewind fits into the future vision of EPCOT."

Man, I wish the author would tell us what that is, because I'm pretty sure even Disney doesn't know. Is it alcohol soaked Festivals, large unused carpeted areas, and vaguely justified IP?

Ohh I know its a small thing, but It's one of those things that when you think about it you don't actually think about that.
Stupid things like things like that, permits (they have to permit with Orange County and Reddy Creek so they get double dinged and from experience with RCID permitting its pricey).

Other things not necessarily thought of like crane rentals, got one of those that's $20,000 a month without a operator. 5K Lull $1000 a week, Site Modular office trailers cost a good amount, Portable restrooms say 10 serviced a few times a week for a couple years there's an easy 33K.

I'm sure the actors get some compensation in perpetuity and Kevin Feige probably has it in his contract to get $ as well...

Basically, the cost being tossed around is to say "look its expensive it must be great" but in reality that's the cost of every bit of scope of the project and not just the ride experience itself and or tech involved.

*edited to expand on items

I would also add, often times with Disney the costs wrap in other projects, as well I assume it also includes all R&D done for these new ride vehicles.

I mean, Disney budgets are bloated as it is, but I can also imagine it cost a WHOLE LOT more keeping the UoE building, and retrofitting that instead of just demoing and starting fresh.

You just know once they tore that sucker open a wide array of unknown issues appeared.

Yes, I'm fully aware of the convoluted back story. My question is, why deal with time travel at all? What effect does it have on the ride experience, physically or aesthetically? If you set up time travel at great length as your attractions central plot element, you expect it to have some impact on the ride experience. This would literally be the same ride if you were chasing Eson through space. I'd bet a not-insignificant amount of money that a lot of effects highlighting the "Cosmic Rewind," time travel aspect of the ride were cut.

Also, as I pointed out, we inexplicably see Eson jump back to the big bang twice - he does so in the preshow (taking Earth??? with him for some reason) and then, inexplicably, in the first scene of the ride, we jump with Eson again.

Also also, we are chasing Eson to track him for the Guardians... who arrive immediately, so that plot point is totally discarded.

Also also also, I know we don't care about the MCU here, but its kind of absurd that the plot of this ride completely negates the first 20 years of films, since if the Guardians had access to unlimited time travel after the first film, the ENTIRE PLOT of Infinity War and Endgame is nullified. This is even funnier because the time travel serves no purpose in the ride!

I don't think we've ever seen a ride where budget cuts and last minute rewrites have made such an incomprehensible mess of a plot. It's another reason you don't do complicated plots on theme park attractions!

Word. Dear Disney, how come the story isn’t just: Wanna ride a spaceship?

Something else the ride doesn't have - any visual humor - or really, interesting visuals at all. In the films, when anyone travels through the gates, their faces become comically distorted and they zoom past quick sight gags. None of that. Given that the plot of the ride is "wacky outlaws battle planet-size cosmic deity," the visuals of this ride seem shockingly unimaginative.

What's the second AA in M:B?

Has anyone considered that the lack of physical Guardians theming was done by design so that they could more easily do overlays and, dare I say it, eventually retheme this ride in the (probably far) future?

Actually, though, here's a question for everyone: In say, 20 years, will the Guardians still call Epcot home?

Mission BO has the two Rocket AA's (one for each pre-show room) and the very minor animated Cosmo.

I'm not a big fan of Mission BO and how cheap it feels, but I can't say that Cosmic Rewind fares any better. It just seems like a bigger Ghost Galaxy. We want to go on an adventure WITH the Guardians, not just hear V/O quips. I'd much rather than a Spiderman-style Guardians darkride with action set pieces and AA's.

I just can't believe there was no room for animatronics in a $500 million budget. Mission: Breakout had a budget of like three bucks, and they were able to use it to buy one (I guess really two) extremely impressive animatronics. So how can $500 million not get a single one??

Not defending the decision, but mission breakouts budget was able to be almost entirely allocated to the show. They did not have to build a new building and a ride system from the ground up.

Ok, having now been on it five times so far, here are my thoughts!

It’s a really fun coaster! The feeling of the dips of the track combined with the turns is wicked!

My biggest grievance, as some have mentioned, is that you can see the screens quite clearly at times. Particularly the launch room, it is clearly a small room where you can see the top and bottom of the screen in its entirety.

I also second the thoughts about Chris Pratt, he seems very lazy and not into anything that’s happening in his scenes.

I also find some of the audio is not clear, particularly their lines in the second pre show and in the launch room - truthfully have no clue what the characters are saying at times. Like why is Drax talking about chicken in the one pre show? 🧐

Other than that, it’s a riot and so much fun! My fave song so far is Conga :)

The rotating vehicles were developed by Vekoma, so not Disney's R&D on this one.

Was it a joint project though? I ran across this post from 2017 the other day (searching for the source of the $450 million budget)…

it's a co development between WDI and someone else, to a layout I believe will be unique at opening.

but it didn’t say if the co-development was specifically for the track or for something else on the ride.

WDI certainly had some involvement. The layout is custom, and the vehicles are obviously custom. But as far as I know, Vekoma had the rotating ride system as a product ready for Disney to use.

How do you find something I wrote 5 years ago when I don’t remember what I did 5 minutes ago?!

That doesn't allow WDI to showcase the immense talents of their Imagineers by creating immersive and diverse stories, leveraging their world-class storytelling and assets to take the consumer places only Disney can, because our consumers demand it.

I don't think my word salad there was quite as impressive as the verbal diarrhea that Disney PR puts out under TheZach's Instagram account but you get the idea. ;)

I was looking for the source of the $450 million budget on the original Cosmic Rewind thread and found the thread fascinating, all the predictions and insider info from 2017 (that were spot on) are far more interesting in hindsight.

Ironically I can’t remember what I had for lunch yesterday but can remember most of what I read in that thread.

Eta… since you’re here, is the omnicoaster exclusive to Disney or is it a Vekoma model available to anyone?
