They used to do it that way…they built to finish it and let the ride speak for itself…wasn’t all that long ago either
Do you think that change in marketing psychologically affects Imagineering as well? When there’s no pre-hype surrounding a product, I feel like they would have more free reign and creativity. But when the hype starts prematurely I feel like all those Imagineers have a lot of pressure on their shoulders and sometimes make bad decisions because of it.

It’s possible…there’s probably an inherent pressure to do things a certain way if they use it for marketing material everyday prior to opening for 5 years…

nothing other than major park re-working, infrastructure redos should take 5 years.

nothing about Disney’s construction these days does anything to foster excitement in the staff except for the accountants.

Latest on the exterior paint job at Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind
Come on guys, pick a color and finish the job. This is just example of cost overruns where the bean counters could step in. And, that's only one that guest can see right now.

I hear an imagineer now.... What we need are more rocks. Yeah, more rocks.

See…I see it as more a case of intentionally slow timelines

(if you build stuff…the peasants will just expect more)

The whole exterior saga is definitely pretty funny.
We went from grey ribs, solar panels, lights in ribs, large greeter structure, water(?) around ship, lighted signage, painted/metal patterns on the sides of the building:

To random metal panels, brown ribs, planter around ship, no interesting lighting to note, grey/sliver metal paneling,:

back to grey ribs but no lights:

I'm hoping something will be installed on top of those metal panels because they really don't look great. Considering there's power(?) being ran behind the ribs, I have a slight bit of hope:

Even if they aren't solar panels, just some kind of lighting effect would be nice.

These color changes also tell me they are having problems deciding what to do and having a consistent design aesthetic. No wonder costs are so high and the end results can feel weak.

They also posted that a fix for the yeti was "imminent" 1,255 days ago

Have they reported on what's replacing CBJ and LwtL yet? ;)

As mentioned, these are getting paint jobs weekly, it seems. Clickbait clings to anything so he can "be first". I think Buzz Lightyear said it best when it comes to Clickbait - "You are a sad, strange little man, and you have my pity".

No product substitution stipulations are pretty common when it comes to commercial construction and are not at all unique to Disney whom I have done engineering work for. I have had a case where and EOR specified a brand of nails and would not budge on the matter and this was on a rather pedestrian clubhouse for a new subdivision.

Residential construction tends to be much more flexible.
Residential construction also plays by a different set of legal rules than commercial in most jurisdictions. What you can And can’t do on a single-family home is VERY different from what you can and can’t do in a commercial setting.

Very true.

With residential construction, I can often make changes or corrections with just a couple of "This doesn't work, but this will" emails.

The best way to describe commercial projects is to paraphrase Doug Adams. Having a commercial plan corrected or modified requires changed orders signed in triplicate, sent in, sent back, queried, lost, found, subjected to public inquiry, lost again, and finally buried in soft peat for three months and recycled as firelighters. ;)
