I think the parks had to have been a massive headache when he came on. We all want expansions and new rides/lands, but look at the sheer scope of some of the infrastructure projects and refurbishments that have happened and are still ongoing at the parks round the world. Look at how many we still want to have happen (monorails.) For someone coming up from media, it has to be daunting when all the needs of a living theme park are laid out.

What are those redish wires that come across the side of the building and are across the entire front of the entrances? Seems like an odd location for anything permanent, and a strange spot for temporary wiring.
Looks like it holds a mesh in place. Probably used to prevent debris from flying into the park

Remember when Disney would create cool themed show buildings that would house large attractions - space mountain, horizons, universe of energy... now they just paint it sky blue and hope everyone pretends not to see it.

I remember.

I believe that Disney chose to hide this building, rather than theme is so as not to take the view away from Spaceship Earth.
They had three choices, once they decided to construct this monstrosity:
Heavily theme it Guardians style.
Generically cover it with a stainless, mirrored, glass etc. modern looking façade.
Attempt to draw less attention to it.

I'm glad they didn't go with the first one.
I believe they didn't go with the second one for part of the reason they didn't go with the first - too much compettion for the worse - with Spaceship Earth.
So we got the third.
I still wonder if they will attempt some plantings in front of it.

Lord help us if they put Chapek in charge.
Ok, I'm going to play devil's advocate here. Would Chapek really be the worst CEO? Under him, investment in the parks has soared. As far as IP everywhere, I do wonder if Chapek is the driver here or if that is more an edict from Iger / Lasseter (when he was still with Disney)? I seem to remember someone saying here that Chapek was less religious about IP than Iget - that he still wanted to push it, but not as intensely as Iger... And a CEO who came up through parks would certainly have an appreciation for that segment of the business. Would he be the best CEO? No, but I don't know how you find that person. But I could think of worse CEOs and he might surprise us if it ultimately him.

I have wondered this too. Where does the IP mandate really come from?

Also, WDW is soooo much more than the parks now that we will never see another creative as CEO probably ever.
