Writing humor into a mostly static-figure scene in which the characters also aren't speaking. (Also, some motifs just stick, like that sea monster.) I liked WoM kind of the way folks like the Haunted Mansion, honestly. Also, I miss the Water Engine and especially Bird and Robot, although they're not on the ride. (@marni1971, you don't by chance have any archival footage of Bird and Robot, do you? Multas gratias for the Water Engine reel, though...!)

To me, Test Track seems like much ado about nothing. Yes, they test cars. Okay. That's nice. Oh, look -- a CM parking lot! Zoom! Oh, all right, it's over. Do I want to get back in line for this? No? Fine... Now what?

totally agreed...
to me, it also heavily reinforced the perspective mere amusements could be approached as art

i just thought the talent at work in that building was nuts, and that certainly includes post shows (some of which happen to be more charming than some full-on attractions)

and, oh boy, does @marni1971 have a present for you!

Oh, yes. That's the good good. Thank you both!

Oh, don’t get me wrong; Test Track has always been overrated. As someone else mentioned, it was just the least offensive of the updates because WoM wasn’t the most compelling AA dark ride in Epcot.

I do miss it. I wish we could have both.

Agreed on Test Track. I kinda felt 'meh' on the original ( a good one off ride, def not worthy of multiple iterations), and had high hopes for the upgrade. Buuuttt.... I was there opening day for 2.0. Besides the CM's not knowing what the h3ll they were doing (seriously, the fumbling on what to do with the car design, loading/unloading, etc, was horrendous), it was like they slapped a Tron facade on top of it, sprinkled in a few shared effects from Radiator Springs Racers (or vice versa), and dumbed down the 'education' aspect of it. I feel like they were grasping at straws a bit on what to showcase. It's a car. This is how they test it (sorta, not really). Here's a bumpy road. Here's a paint shop. Here's how brakes work.... Come on! It's a shoddy concept from inception. IF indeed this is how GM develops cars it's no wonder they suck so bad (before you blast me on this, I know more goes into friggin car development).

I think that Test Track 2.0 could be a superior attraction with a few changes. They need to find a better way to integrate the guest created vehicles into the attraction. At first I thought off ride use of the projections, but that's probably unnecessary and would take away from the aesthetics of the ride. They need to better use the on board monitors and they can do so by showing video of our user created vehicles going through the same tests.

Epcot isn't necessarily about *learning*, as so many people like to say. Sure, you may learn something, and you may be informed of something, but to me Epcot has always been more about inspiring rather than learning - hope for the future, hope for harmony among nations. That you might learn something as a consequence of that (since it's grounded in the realities of human achievement and human cultures) is a nice side effect, but not the primary purpose. I know today everything that Spaceship Earth has to say. But I continue to go on it, not because I expect to learn anything new, but because it inspires me (and has since I was a kid). Future World especially is about possibilities for the future that stem from our past history along with our present technology and research. WoM did that, Test Track 2.0 does that to a lesser degree, Horizons, UoE, JII, and the other original Future World attractions all did that.

There's many directions Epcot could take and still meet its original mission of inspiration. JIYIwF doesn't really inspire today (in any way), neither does Seas with Nemo. The rest can/do to a small or large degree depending on the attraction. Guardians doesn't seem like it will, but who knows, they may surprise us. The rest of the Future World redo? Even if they change the tenor of the attractions, add IPs, make them more modern to be what theme park guests expect today, I hope they at least keep the idea of inspiration in mind.

The original iteration was supposed to be a representation of the testing that vehicles go through. Hence, why it was named "Test Track." It was supposed to be like you were taking a ride on a test track. They added the heat cycle and corrosion chamber stuff (it wasn't a paint shop) that wouldn't take place with people on board but it would have made for a not-very-exciting attraction if you got out and watched the car in a test chamber.

The only part of the original that never "worked" for me was the braking section. In the non-ABS test, due to the ride system there was never any feeling of being out of control like you would feel if your brakes locked on a car.

The new version is OK. I like the car design part just to give you something to try on re-rides. I wish they had kept Bill McKim!

No blasting from me: you’re right.

Ok so deviating away from this heated WoM pavilion stuff, someone said something about a metallic theme a few pages back. Does this mean the mirrored tiles are staying? Concept art disagrees, but I do suppose things could change

Just curious, name one thing you learned from the World of Motion ride.

I learned that Lisa del Giocondo (Mona Lisa) was impatient. I learned to never bring that much money with you on a train. I learned that you should always give a bull the right-of-way on any road. I learned to always bargain with a used chariot salesman. And I learned there were speed traps even back in 1920!

Of the 1982 building? Expect the sides and the roof to drastically alter.
