i take issue with this...
wom was mecca for the art of animatronics - scores more than any other ride before or since, with arguably the greatest dark ride scene ever created... scenes created by two old utter geniuses, btw, pivotal to much we hold dear

... we were left with a total clusterfudge for a few years followed by an attraction eclipsed by exceeding the speed limit in a convertible on your way home

i'll concede that i rarely feel i hold the majority view on this, however.. and it puzzles me

I have an irrational love for the Swiss Family Treehouse. I understand. :D

I miss the old EPCOT rides, while acknowledging that they needed some updating. Good rides, such as Horizons, gave a long ride time and were enjoyable. WOM was the same. I'm also one of the few who really enjoyed the Life pavilion. I thought Body Wars was fun and Cranium Command funny.

Oh, the Test Track no longer exceeds the speed limit on an interstate. In fact, it is probably five mph less than the posted speed limits.

The Treehouse is unmitigated brilliance! (As is WoM, btw). The Treehouse is the one attraction I ever wrote a review of here. Quintessential Disney, what sets the MK apart from the wannabes. Not characters, nor flashy E-tickets.

Great minds think alike: https://www.wdwmagic.com/attractions/swiss-family-treehouse/reviews.htm
I went out and bought the DVD of the film so that I could show it to my wife before we go. She's never seen the film nor visited a Disney park. It's definitely a film of its time, but I still really enjoy it and hope she does too. I figure it may at least give her an appreciation for the Treehouse in MK and forestall at least some eye rolling when I insist on visiting it this November. :)

My kids (ages 4-11) love the movie. We probably watch it about once a month.

Interesting that it might not be the whole building that's that height.

Was thinking the same thing when I saw the new aerials. If it is true it is stepping down, would be a shame they didn't reverse the step down and keep the full height farther from the park and at least add some architectural detail from the park view.

One of the problems of these new, short rides is it leaves the impression there's not much in Future World. If you add WoM, Energy and Horizon that was a hour and 15 minutes of ride time, just one one side. Now if we give Guardians the benefit of the doubt of 3 minutes, thats like 14 minutes total ride time on that side.

top o' the pops vs. prog rock masterpiece -
seems obvious to me both are valid in this world
... just obviously not at disney world anymore

in having been a living witness to what was and could have been, i must take solace

But 195 minutes in line...
After visiting WDW for the first time in 1987, I used to joke with friends that one of these days, Disney was going to build an attraction where there was only a line and no actual ride - the "Standing in Line" rides, so to speak. At the time, I said it might not be all bad because some of the ride queues and pre-shows were pretty interesting on their own.

At the time I think I found The Living Seas fairly confusing from this perspective. Between the pre-show movie, the Hydrolators, and the Seacabs, by the time I got to Sea Base Alpha, I wasn't sure if I was in the attraction or the post-attraction exhibit area. :)

This as opposed to Journey into Imagination where the "main course" was clearly the ride with the pre-show movie and an extensive post-ride exhibit area in the Imageworks. But all that plus the water gardens really gave me the feeling that the attention to detail in the queue areas might allow them to stand on their own one day! Ha!

Just curious, name one thing you learned from the World of Motion ride.

Writing humor into a mostly static-figure scene in which the characters also aren't speaking. (Also, some motifs just stick, like that sea monster.) I liked WoM kind of the way folks like the Haunted Mansion, honestly. Also, I miss the Water Engine and especially Bird and Robot, although they're not on the ride. (@marni1971, you don't by chance have any archival footage of Bird and Robot, do you? Multas gratias for the Water Engine reel, though...!)

To me, Test Track seems like much ado about nothing. Yes, they test cars. Okay. That's nice. Oh, look -- a CM parking lot! Zoom! Oh, all right, it's over. Do I want to get back in line for this? No? Fine... Now what?
