If the Tower Of Terror was just slightly to the right of the Graumanns Chinese Theater, And Everest was where Flights Of Wonder is, then yes! It would be a mistake to add a competing structure within the sightline of the central focus...

Yet upon walking to the entrance of DHS TOT is right there in your face, completely taking away focus from the the park icon.

Actually as you go through the turnstiles and get your first view of the park, TOT is behind you to the right... It is NOT in the viewline at all.
It is also themed to a 1912 Hollywood hotel which adds to the backstory of the park...

And when you go through Epcot's turnstiles GotG will be off to your left not obscuring Spaceship Earth, and because the building is still under construction and we have no idea what the finished product will look like it is fruitless to dissmiss it on purly it's aesthetic style.

I agree....but also feel it is just a little too close to Spaceship earth regardless of what it looks like...

You forget the parks icon was intended to be the highest structure in the immediate vicinity.

This is a page one mistake. On so many levels. Imho.

An icon that oddly enough we spend about 90% of our day looking at the backside of. And yes, I know it’s a sphere but spaceship Earth very clearly has a backside and for whatever reason that’s what we’re presented with from inside the park.

Certainly. But in EPCOT, not of EPCOT.

I was laying a wreath at the LaL memorial. This group of about twenty Brazilians came running to me, sweating from exitement. They took a gazillion pictures of my extremely attractive calf muscles, the prettiest they had ever seen and that includes Neymar's. All within EPCOT. But are they pictures about EPCOT?
Pictures or it didn't happen...

I have not been really following this thread closely since I am not a fan of GGOTG and I hate that it is in EPCOT but why is on earth is such a large building required? I didn't even think this thing was going upside down. I mean other than Everest I can't think of another building that houses a ride in such a large building. Is this building larger than Everest?

Moreover, Spaceship Earth is always going to be more eye-catching by virtue of its unusual shape. If the castle in Disneyland can coexist with the Matterhorn, Spaceship Earth will be just fine.

Because, based on insider discussion and conjecture, it'll likely be a "twisted ball of track" inside with set pieces in place around it.

Backside works beautifully. In this case.
But not as well as its front-side.
Honestly I think this was a holdover from the earlier designs when they hadn't yet figured out how to make the full sphere. That design was fine for where they put Spaceship Earth. But when they went full sphere, they should have changed the layout (look at the plans for Westcot, and I think it's an admission that the icon could have been showcased better.)
The real problem is Earth Station. It is in no way uglier than the wand, but I'd say its actually worse for being a huge obstructive tumor.
Spaceship Earth is treated more like the Train Station at the Magic Kingdom than the true icon of the park. It is that which greets us before funneling us into the park.

I find Earth Station quite attractive. And to be honest there was never a viable attraction that didn’t have the backside bit, as seen in the late 77/early 78 designs when the park was developing from a fanciful idea to a practical design. It’s then when they realised a dome (as it still was then) couldn’t hold everything.

So that it can be "one of the longest inside coasters in the world." You can't be that in a small building.

And you know, if they didn't go big with the GotG coaster, it would get even more scorn thrown upon it for not going big and we'd hear how cheap Disney is and how they fail to live up to their reputation to be an industry leaders, and so on.

At least, it should be a top-notch E-Ticket family ride, despite the theming and sightline issues. Not going big would have been salt in the wounds.

No, I'm not okay. A gang of barbarians ravaged my little heaven and left it Toontown McDrunkyville.

~ There are two kinds of WDW fans. Those who knew EPCOT Center, and those who don't. ~
I found this button in one of my boxes the other day... I was 8 when I got it... it saddens me what the park is, it sparked a lot of things in me including my love for architecture, and science. Ill never forget the centarium where it wasn't all epcot or Disney in the 2 stories.. they had a lot of nasa and science toys. Figment and dreamfinder were awesome especially when you saw them walking around. The fountain at the front instead of headstones, much less clutter, all of the fountains around journey, all of the stuff upstairs at journey, the original wom (I didn't like body wars or any of WOL). It really was like stepping into the future back then and you wanted to learn.

I really don't know where it needs to go though, I can kind of understand their issues.
You cant go futuristic- it will be outdated in 5 years prob less
Attention spans for learning on a ride are a thing of the past
I have more computing power in my iPhone than all of epcot did in the 80s
Theres too much information in the world now, between cable, and the internet anything I'm curious about I can google in 5 mins
we have to admit that edutainment is dead

That means eventually we will lose spaceship earth, maybe even the land for something more thrilling. Even if its just an overlay of characters and a cheesy story instead of education.

I hope I'm wrong but is the next generation going to care about an old animatronic Phoenician?

World showcase... travel is so much cheaper now and more realistic for the normal person, and its not mysterious like it was
