Interesting... unless it's more a formality than anything else... it seems like there would be so minimal work going on outside of the pavilion that they would wait to do a lot of that work until closer to the end which begs the question of why they would have construction walls up if all the work was currently on the inside. For comparison, I don't believe the new Mickey ride at Studios has construction walls up (then again, the Chinese Theater is an icon of the park). Nonetheless, it's always nice to see positive signs of progress.
(Any guesses [or inside knowledge] on when we might see walls go up for Tron and the Space Restaurant?)
Think of TT 2.0. They had to change the entire front entrance. Looks like the area walled off will be for that purpose. Why they are doing it so early probably has as much to do with what you said above too.Putting up construction walls at HS would present a problem for the projection shows. As you said, not much will change. Before opening, they'll probably mount marquees for the ride similar to GMR.
More is probably needed for the exterior of GOTG. I can also see crews going in and out of the front doors so need walls in front of the attraction.
The wall being up doesn't mean they're doing anything that requires the wall be up.In terms of external work, I'm thinking it's gonna be the pond/logo in the front alongside paint and roof stuff. A lot like TT2. Interesting that they're doing stuff that requires walls this early. Maybe the plans have a brand new location for the queue entrance?

They saw my post encouraging people to take a picture through the gap at the bottom of the front doors and said, "Holy Carp! We need a wall to keep people away!!"
You're welcome.
@marni1971, how likely do you think this is?Maybe we'll at least be lucky enough to see some new concept art or other hints/clues about the ride on the construction walls (though I'm not holding my breath).
Groot takes a while to grow. Why is this attraction opening in almost four years?
Because they want to prolong the agony...and maaaaaaybe leave a backdoor option open for them to change their minds...Why is this attraction opening in almost four years?

They're waiting until nobody cares anymore about the decade old fad sitting in between Twilight and Hunger Games. Why is this attraction opening in almost four years?
