Hopefully WS can get an attraction or two to help spread the crowds once it opens. As it is if you don't enjoy eating and drinking there isn't much to do once you pass Norway. I'd love to see some of the original concepts like the Rhine river cruise in Germany, gondola ride in Italy, and the Japan bullet train to be re-born.

EPCOT's core concepts were picked precisely because of their importance to mankind (not the ego of an IP obsessed CEO). The idea that they have somehow grown tired because Disney basically decided late in the 20th century that spending money by reinvesting in the park wasn't good short term business is as crazy as removing gator toys from the shelves of WDW retail outlets because some oversensitive crackpot might have an issue with them.
Moreover, how impressive is it that the central theme of Communication in Spaceship Earth was chosen. Sure some luck was involved but since Epcot has existed the advancement in Communication has been the most important advancement in the world.
I know he wasn't talking about me, but I am really tired of getting stuck with what you like, what you think is right and quality, what you want. But it is a losing battle because what you want is so much cheaper and easier to create and install, so you win.
This is the same argument we all had for Frozen. Guardians of the Galaxy is certainly deserving of an attraction, but the decision makers here have no concept of appropriate placemaking.

I feel like they want to capitalize on the film's success soon (in time for the sequel?), but because HS is so tied up with Toy Story Land and Stars Wars Land, they just felt like EPCOT is the obvious choice because of the empty buildings/aging attractions in Future World. I don't agree but I can see why they might be thinking of EPCOT rather than HS.

Hate let you down but the EPCOT that was built was not the EPCOT Walt envisioned.
100% correct, but this won't stop numerous upcoming replies in this thread stating that Walt wouldn't be happy with what has happened to Epcot in the last decade, and FEA and now GotG will be the straw that broke the camels back blah blah blah blah...

Future World is truly a timeless concept. A decade from now people might not care about GotG, but they will care about the future. They will care about the land ... about the seas ... about energy ... about transportation ... about imagination. Those concepts don't get old.

Untrue. EPCOT's core concepts were chosen because Disney sold sponsorships to big industry such as AT&T, Exxon, United Technologies, Kraft, Kodak, Sperry Rand, GM and others. Most of those big sponsors are now gone and they're not coming back.

Disney parks have always been about selling the brand. Selling the public on the idea that General Electric is a kind and compassionate company rather than the company that makes the triggers for nuclear weapons was the hallmark of Disney sponsor public relations. But as I said, those days are pretty much gone.

Now Disney is selling its own brand rather than selling the virtues of hydraulic fracturing for Exxon.
