What's the rationale for omitting the (stretched) educational tie? Does management no longer care about Epcot's original vision?

Okay - It sounds to me that most people are not pleased with this possibility. I'm assuming there's no educational tie, hence, people's frustration. Plus it's another IP-based attraction.

There was a considered additional element that would have had a bit of (stretched) edutainment, but that getting made is looking less likely by the datpy.

This. There was a secondary attraction that could have utilised the current theatre two. Now it's looking more like a long elaborate queue to a 3 minute thrill ride.

How the mighty have fallen.

I see...

Okay, assuming this is moving ahead, if you were to look at this slated ride objectively as a standalone ride, is it any good. (I'm asking you to view it outside of the lens of Epcot's original purpose)

Is the Gotg coaster a US version of Tron?

hmmm....Brazil, India and Russia would be interesting.
Like several other Pavilions that never were, the political feelings around any one of those could set back any chance of them coming to WS. Given all the mess around Trump and Russia right now, you can probably scratch that one for the time being...

Russia was planned when it was the Soviet Union, but once it became Russia, the plan was scrapped. The current political climate in Russia sort of keeps it from being a pavilion any time soon (maybe once Putin finally leaves power...) I think Brazil and India would be shoo-ins, but it depends if Disney can find a vendor to sell things in the shops/find a ride or restaurant sponsor.

Russia was also planned way after the fall of the Soviet Union. Last pavilion opening date I heard was 1999.

At least from a food standpoint the offerings would be new and unique to all of WDW. Something tells me that if AK ever expands and builds a South America area that Brazil would play a huge role in that area and wouldn't be needed at EPCOT nessecairly. Obviously AK will be off the table for quite some time now though, unfortunately.

Sigh. So easy to build a thrilling ride around the forces and principles and science of energy - it basically designs itself! But no, gotta sell those GotG plushes and DVDs.

It's all the more stupid because, to the average person, a coaster is a coaster is a coaster. Theme is irrelevant as long as it's mildly thrilling. People ride RnRC because it's a roller coaster, not because it has Aerosmith. Guarantee this new ride would be just as successful with an appropriate Energy theme as it would be with a GotG theme or a Disney Playhouse theme.

What a waste.

Like Disney would every cheat on Vekoma with Intamin or B&M. Now that I think about it, now would be a great time for Disney and B&M get along and bring us that B&M smoothness their so well known for.

Well they did have a fling with Intamin (coaster wise) over at DCA. That was (and continues) a complete disaster though. People flipping out over a 40 year old Arrow that needs the welding that all other coasters that old continuously receive vs. a ride over in CA that's needed new track and trims all over the place to stop the maintenance bleeding when the ride was only a decade old. Same thing happened with the Intamin over at Paris. Still baffles me that companies trust Intamin to deliver a reliable product.

B&M and Disney wouldn't really mix though. Ask Efteling how difficult it was to get them to play ball for even custom lift supports and a show scene. Besides, I can't even think of a product that they offer that I'd want to see in a Disney park. They're not permitted to build anything that someone else in the area has, so their options would be extremely limited on what types of models B&M could legally supply them anyway.

Trying to nail down what coasters you're referring to...care to elaborate on that? I'm curious. (I'm headed to DL for the first time in October...)
