Grown Up Things To Do? Going Without Kids

Planning a long weekend with the wife for late October. We really need some time to ourselves. Just trying to make sure the grandparents can take care of the kiddies for the weekend. We've been to Disney dozens of times with the kids, so we know the parks inside and out. The most adult thing we do is having a beer or two while we do world showcase. I've read alot about Port Orleans as a good resort for a couple. We usually go value but since it's just the two of us perhaps I'll upgrade. What else do you guys recommend? Activities and dining? Anyone been to House of Blues or the new bars at the old P.I. location? Are they worth it? Thanks everyone.

OK here's something I've always found fun - in EPCOT world showcase there is the Phineas and Ferb save the world thing with the cell phone. The secret is it is a drinking game. Sign up (it's free) and get you communicator then head to the first country and buy a drink. Every time the communicator rings with a new clue you have to take a drink. Finish the drink and country then move to the next country buy a drink and repeat. It's a blast!

At first I wasn't sure where you were going with this. Then you added beer and hilarity ensued!

Here are some ideas:

- Take an evening walk along the beach at Disney's Polynesian Resort and watch Wishes, OR if you'd like something less private, do the Wishes Dessert Party

- Have a romantic meal at a non-character TS restaurant that strikes your fancy (and fits your budget)

- Buy some wine and chocolates at the World Showcase (e.g., France) to take back to the room

- Surprise your wife with a spa treatment. (I don't know if they have any couples' packages -- can anyone weigh in on this?)

- Ride a surrey bike-for-two at Boardwalk, take the Sassagoula River Cruise from POR or POFQ to Downtown Disney, or a carriage ride (PORS, Fort Wilderness, perhaps others?)

- Enjoy the nightlife at Downtown Disney (or even Piano Bob's evening show in the lounge at PORS - he seems to be universally well-reviewed)

There is a point in Norway where you can make a trumpet sound and a flag appear behind a sign on a pole. It's near the restrooms behind the bakery and we were cracking up laughing because we would signal the action to happen and this guy waiting for his wife in the restroom kept looking at the flag and the sound wondering what was going on. Every time he looked away we made it happen again. It was hilarious.

I like Jellyrolls for evening entertainment. It is a dueling piano bar in the Boardwalk area of WDW.
I would recommend a nice signature meal for the both of you also.
Watching the fireworks from the Beach at the Poly or California Grill is very romantic.
Take advantage of evening EMH if you don't usually do that.

I agree with previous posters, Jellyrolls or Dance Hall on the Boardwalk is awesome. We go to Disney just about every October, and peruse the kiosks along WS, then take a stroll to the boardwalk. Get to Jellyrolls before 9 if you can. It's laid back, alot of fun, you dont have to dress up, and its relaxing, and a perfect date night, or two or three. ;)

Ok, I'm quite naive so I have to ask, is this a real thing? Cause if it is, where do I sign up?

Ok guys that game was fun before they turned it into Phineas but that is a really cool idea without your kids and grandkids. I am so so doing that trouble is we will be in that country we are, for an hour or so It takes me forever and I only like margaritas any suggestions?? Seriously I kept passing by that game for years and finally in Jan we tried it and it was so much fun really...,. We just had a great time exploring the country's and doing what WE wanted to do. NOT stand in lines for characters, took boat rides, ate where we wanted, it was the best time. Went in Jan and I dont even feel like I went. Had to watch 3 year old granddaughter cos she was to small I rode very little and all I could think about was the trip solo with hubby and I in 2009 and how we had a blast..

DH & I are taking a couples only trip this year. We are planning on trying restaurants that offer more adult friendly menus. Try to book restaurants with views of Illuminations near show time. Also, there are great tours for Disney fans like Keys to the Kingdom or the Segway tour in Epcot.

I am partial to margaritas too. We just kept going back to Mexico to refill!

Lots of great suggestions guys thanks. A spa is definitely on the list. Thanks Weather lady. We won't be going much to the parks because we usually do that, we want to do some of those things we never really do. A ride on Pirates and I'll be happy. Definitely some drinks in different spots and would love some of the bars and listening to some music. Looks like Boardwalk and Downtown Disney will be some places to consider. Won't be getting too tipsy. Wifey is a lightweight. If I was with friends, then the amount of alcohol consumption would increase exponentially. Since her wedding ring was damaged I plan to fix it and give it to her. After some of the suggestions, I might not do it during Wishes. Might do it around Seven Seas Lagoon while we watch Wishes. It guarantees we won't see Tinkerbell (there's a connection to an ex-girlfriend)

Cirque Du Soleil is fantastic & House of Blues done both on previous trips. Extra brownie points with the spa always goes well;). Carriage ride around Fort Wilderness is a good option too.

How about a carriage ride around Port Orleans Property.

Dinner at Jiko or Narcosee's with a view of the fireworks. Someone stated earlier, Jellyrolls, Dance Hall?
How about a Wine Seminar at Tutto Gusto.

I recommend the Keys to the Kingdom Tour DH and I really enjoyed it.

Depending on your budget how about renting a boat for a private viewing of Illuminations or Wishes?
