Grouchy CMs low quality standards and other things from our trip...

I think I was in kindergarten when I was told this "Treat others as you want to be treated.", seems to go a long way on both sides of this argument.

I spent 15 years of my professional career fixing copiers for a living. Customer service is the total name of the game here. A good tech can tell you that your copier will be down for a week waiting for parts in such a way that you are looking forward to it.

The shame thing is that people really don't get the customer service thing anymore. I did a one day class sponsored by a local college call management Disney Style. It had Disney professionals stop by and explain their approach. One of the things I remember them saying is their concern for the future pool of potential employees. I forget the age they said at the time, but in short they said that they felt very few people below that age have EVER experienced GOOD customer service let alone EXCELLENT customer service to even know what it is.

I know we all have our days and I try really hard to to spread my bad ones, and try to let other bad days roll off. It's when you have one of those stays when it seems everyone just doesn't get it that ruins things.

ug, sorry for the rant, customer service is one of those things that is close to my heart.

I have been to WDW four times in the last twelve months and dozens of times this decade, and I do not see a general trend toward less customer service. I have had great experiences with cast members and ok ones. I've never had a bad experience, I guess I've been lucky.

I have had some ridiculously great CM's, like one that made my day special because I'd had an argument with my flight attendant on the way in. That was way above and beyond to me.

I will say that a bad experience early on can color the rest of the trip. I also find that anytime I've had a complaint Disney has been great at responding and that can be a trip reset to get things back on track.

So my advice in the future is politely talk to a supervisor or call your front desk when you get back to the resort. They will get you to the right person to talk to.

In defense of Disney there are two things to consider. January and late summer are when the new CP programs start so the parks are flooded with new employees all trying to learn their jobs at once. Often it is hard to provide the best customer service when you are overwhelmed.

And secondly, T-Rex, like the Rain Forrest and Planet Hollywood, is not owned or run by Disney. So it is hard to expect the Disney service there.

You're right, because people at theme parks don't throw feces at you or try to ________ on you. They don't spit at you or throw chewed up cigars tips at you. They don't throw punches at you at quite the frequent rate as those at the casinos.

I gotta comment on this one,
Does a kid pooping off the balcony of the riverboat and landing on you count as slingin poo... lol ... yeah it happened to a fellow cast member I know. The parent was holding him over the side, smart, real smart.. ohh and my friend Dave who's now retired asked a guest who was smoking once to please exstinguish his ciggarette as he was in a non smoking area, the guy proceeded to put out the cig on Daves forearm, burning him of course. Dave went to first aid for that one. Three fellow cast members I know have been punched out(unconcious) because they wouldnt let the fathers little one ride an attraction they were too small to ride on safely. Two of those cast members were female.

PS, Daybrook,
On a personal note: Thank you for serving our country, I wanted to be in the military but due to my sight couldn't, So I serve the only way I feel I can, trying to do my best to make sure my guests(crew) have a good time on the Jungle Cruise....

Cheers,

No problem, maybe we'll see you on the JC if you're still there in September. I only really remember a couple of skippers from that attraction, the one being a skinny spanish guy that would make a record scratching noise with the microphone. He was pretty good.

I've seen CMs with attitudes that range from excellent to merely adequate, but all seem to be trying to do their jobs and that's all I ask. The ONE bad CM memory I have is when we saw Mickey and Minnie at a character greet. They were accompanied as usual by CMs and I just couldn't believe that both of the CMs seemed like "carneys"! They were middle-aged and actually looked dirty; they also had a sort of negative/bored/angry attitude. It's been three years and I still remember my shock at seeing this and thinking "Walt Disney built Disneyland to get kids away from such people working in parks!"
