Groceries

Sorry if this has been posted before but myself, DW, DD (4) and DS (6 mos.) will be heading down to the World in August. We usually drive but have decided to fly this time. We are staying in a 1BR unit at BLT. Normally, we would drive to a grocery store on 192 to purchase our groceries. Does anyone have any recommendations for a grocery delivery service that is reliable and reasonably priced?

I looked into that last trip and after going through my shopping list analyzing the price and selection of Garden Grocer, I opted to rent a small car from Alamo for one night which cost about 50 bucks. I shopped at Publix and then returned the car to the Dolphin the next day. I was much happier with this plan because I was able to choose what was on sale, we cooked about 75% of our meals in our villa and we were a group of 8. So it was definitely worth it for us. You can also take a cab to the Winn Dixie round trip is about 25 bucks I think.

I have heard good things about Garden Grocer though, it just wasn't for me.

Have a great trip!

Good info, thanks, we usually use Garden Grocer with great results, but there are only 2 of us for the same amount of in villa cooking as you. I have been thinking of renting a car to shop locally, and to go to Universal again, and all the other spots we have never been to.

We always use Garden Grocer, and have never had an issue with them...even though we don't do a lot of in room eating, my son is allergic to dairy so we need soy...and good option for snack stuff....

DVC will do a delivery service, but its really just more of the same type of stuff they have in the resort stores, at similar prices, plus delivery fee. GardenGrocer is decent, but their prices are fairly high, and unless you spend $200, they charge you a delivery fee. Goodings delivers, but I think their prices/delivery fee are even worse that GardenGrocer. WeGoShop charges you exactly what the receipt says, plus a service fee. With GardenGrocer you know what they will have, and the cost it will be. WeGoShop will shop at whatever store you want, and will even use coupons if you have them (may have an extra fee to pickup unless you can mail them). You don't know what they will have, nor do you know the cost, but you have a greater selection and don't overpay for items.

Agree...garden grocer has everything you need. If not, you can use the grocery form on the DVC member site and order from there. Must haves: case of water, cereal, milk, eggs, bacon, fresh fruit, microwaveable popcorn (late night nibbles), pretzels and snacks. :)

I always use wegoshop.com - the woman who runs it does all of your shopping and delivers it right to your resort. She has even found me my favorite wine!!

Not sure the delivery charges of wegoshop vs. gardengrocer, but never had a problem with wegoshop. Ordered for my friends when they went down a month ago and they raved about everything that was delivered (fruit, meat, etc.)

We are Garden Grocer fans as well. We've used the service about a dozen times and have had no issues. It is somewhat pricey, but the selection is good, especially with regard to items WDW does not carry - Gatorade (Pepsi product) for example. You are paying for the convenience the service offers. I would rather not rent a car, so the service is valuable to me.

I have used both Garden Grocer and Wego shop. I have to say that I liked Garden Grocer better. With Wego, you must list specific items when filling out your list. Garden grocer has pages of items to pick from. On the Wego order, I specified all substitutions should be confirmed with a phone call. We had four substitutions made without a call. Three of the items requested were for low fat products. They were each substituted with regular products. In the future we are sticking with Garden Grocer.

Can't go wrong with Garden Grocer. We've never had an issue (except when bell services dropped our bags - not GG's fault at all and they replaced the groceries in an hour). The groceries are packed well in big paper bags which we end up using as extra garbage "cans" around the villa during our stay. We've always had our groceries waiting for us upon arrival. The selection is good and they have even offered to deliver items for free when we've forgot something (which was our mistake not theirs).
Great service!
