Great Movie Ride...

First of all, none of the movies featured in the Great Movie ride were currently popular with children when the attraction opened. Imagineering was smart enough not to devote scenes to movies kids at the time liked and Disney could get the rights to.

If they had, we'd have show scenes of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the Rocketeer, and Flight of the Navigator.

Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I think The Wizard Oz is a bit more deserving.

Turning the attraction into some kind of dark ride version of the trailer barrage Disney forces you to sit through before you watch one of their DVDs circa 2006 would not suddenly make the attraction popular.

More than that, I couldn't care less whether it's popular with the masses or not. I like it the way it the way the imagineers designed it.

Oh, and Alien is the most memorable part of the ride and all of you know it.

I enjoy the Great Movie Ride. I love the que especially when I get to see the part with The Searchers with John Wayne on that big screen. One of my favorite movies. The attraction is relaxing and enjoyable. I love the end with all the music and quick scenes from the movies. I hope they don't change it. Star Wars is great, but the old people grew up with the old Tarzan movies.

I think it should remain largely intact. It's still a solid attraction overall and a cherished relic of (what I consider) the silver age. I would like to see some additions made and various updates to spruce it up. Truthfully, maintenance on this one has been quite good in recent years. It seems like everything is always working. So focus on making it even better.

The stretch between the Raiders of the Lost Ark and Casablanca is primed for changing. I personally would like to see the original Star Wars added, but not as a replacement for Alien, which is WAY too good.

Maybe add Star Wars in the theater at the very end. The original concept for that room was the throne room (or whatever) from Wizard of Oz, correct? Instead, make it the Death Star from Star Wars with the main characters surrounding you recreating the scene in the hangar just before they escape in the Falcon. Then, dim the lights and show the montage on what was initially a view into outer space. Imagine Vader and Ben dueling and the banter of the heroes and robots.

I'm glad to see the Alien love, because it's one of the best dark ride scenes out there when everything is working. Yet many often say it should be first on the chopping block.

I'd love to see it redone, with a better Sigourney AA and one or two more Aliens - ones preferably made with newer technology which is more reliable.

Does anyone have a high-quality blueprint/layout of the ride and it's scenes?

Gotcha covered.

For the most part I don't really think the ride should be touched, but there are some outdated movies that are represented in the ride that definitely could be replaced. The Godfather, Titanic, Gone with the Wind, The Sound of Music, etc. These are all true "classics" that should have a little more representation than just a 2-second clip in the final movie montage. They deserve their own scenes, I think.

The Godfather could easily be put in the gangster section, Titanic could maybe take the spot of Wizard of Oz's second scene (does it really need two? I always thought that was kind of unnecessary...), Gone with the Wind...not sure, maybe somewhere near the Western section? And The Sound of Music could be put in Tarzan's section: that big open area could be used for the "hills" that Maria sings on. I'm just throwing ideas out there of course, but I do think there needs to be some updates to this ride because it just doesn't seem that popular anymore.

Personally, I love the Great Movie Ride just the way it is...could there by a few changes? Sure! But it's tried and true and those of us who love it, love it for what it is...not for what it could be! Updates are eminent but for now, I'm happy cruising it just the way it is :D

I would have said James Cameron's Avatar but for obvious reasons I see that as no longer being necessary. :animwink: If I had to omit anything, it would be Tarzan. I'd either add the finale of White Christmas with animatronic Bing Crosby and falling snow in the background or something from the horror genre. Some sort of classic.

Blair Witch Project. There you go. Except that scene would translate into the most boring dark ride scene of all time.

You could take out Tarzan and put in two of the coolest movie stars. You could add Steve McQueen on his motorcycle from The Great Escape, and on the other side Sean Connery as James Bond.

Replace all of the scenes with Disney movies.

The "Alien" scene would probably be perfect for Stitch. And possibly the only kind of attraction that can make Stitch look GOOD. The shooting scene area could be changed to a Toy Story scene. The jungle scene could be replaced with (cartoon) Tarzan. Wizard of Oz's scene should be a collage scene of Disney princess movies. Indiana Jones scene should be changed to a Winnie the Pooh scene. That area where the person dies when he touches the thing should be changed to an agent Perry scene. The final film could be similar but with all Disney films of course.

..just my opinions :)

I'd axe the horror scenes (such a waste of space, nothing really there) and add Star Wars. Then take out Tarzan, and put in...anything else. (Though I'd like to see the Maureen O'Sullivan AA reused elsewhere.)

The horror scenes just don't do it for me either. They seem to just be a footnote.....
