The news I heard while I was at MGM recently was that the scene from Street Light Parade was being removed and replaced with a scene from Chicago. That is all that I heard besides the cleaning, reparing, and updating of the final movie.

I personally think there must be something more being added other than footage to the two movies. Cleaning wouldn't take that long would it? Of course I'm probably wrong. I would think the editing of the preshow movie and finale movie could be done with the ride operating, and just be changed out over night or something.

Does anyone know what changes will take place to the outside of the GMR building...they are painting it and stuff but will there be any drastic changes?????

I hope they change some of the scenes within the ride itself...and the movie clips too. I like this rides...its just gotten a little old. Maybe they should just make it into the long rumored Disney Villain ride. Just my opinion.:brick:

If they made it into the Dinsey ride, it would be taking out the heart and soul of The Dinsey MGM Studios. Besides, they already have a villians ride, which is Fantasmic. If they make the Disney villains ride, people would think that Disney is obsessed with their villains.

I thought they were going to drop MGM all together; isn't it eventually just going to be .... The Disney Studios??? Besides I would hardly consider a night time show to be like a villains ride. Disney has some great villains in their movies, a ride for them wouldn't be out of place. Thats just what I think.:hammer:

i really think the GMR needs to stay and the Chicago thing sounds great even though i have never seen the movie - but it did very well at the box office thus forth bringin more pop. to the ride - i think the ride really needs an update - like taking out Aliens and the whole Gangster bit = which in my opinion is the CORNIEST thing on property and pretty much boring, if you can't be more creative than that leave the robbery out - i also thing a villains dark ride/flume would be GREAT and VERY popular! fantasmic is a great show - but the villains really deserve their own show, and even though i can't stand the princess hype, the princesses should have their own ride - Disney should really look towards what is POPLUAR and go with it!

though i wouldn't mind seeing a disney villains attraction, i think removing GMR all together would be just plain wrong, i feel that it's the centerpiece attraction of the park- it like really sets the tone for the entire park (does anyone know what i mean by that?)

-when i visited mgm just 2 weeks ago and the GMR wasnt open, it felt as if a chunk of the park was missing... anyway thats just my 3 cents... thats right 3..! :hammer:

The hat is the park icon. The Great Movie Ride is still the centerpiece attraction--it pulls the entire park together.

dogsrule said it better; thats what i meant. i see what you're saying though... anyway speak of the devil, (the hat) i was just in orlando for easter weekend and saw the hat for the first time in person... wow do i hate it or what. my entire family agreed that it looked pretty tacky and really took away from the overall park feel that you had walking down mgm's ''mainstreet''

i'll write some more info concerning the hat when i finally get around to writing my trip report -so look for that one sometime next week.

cya!

Not to get to of topic but i believe that the hat takes away from the theme of the park. The 1930 "golden age of cinema" with the window-shops finally ending in Mann's Chinese Theater. Now there is a giant blue hat not too bad looking but it does spoil the mood. If it were located off to the side around a building or something (the animation walk threw if that’s still around0 then i think it would be better.

MGM is not themed to be in the 1930s--it is themed to be a modern day production set where sections are in the 1930s--that is why we can have Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, Beauty and the Beast, Tower of Terror (I realize that's the 30s...but they obviously are going for the whole "be a part of the movies" theme here) and Fantasmic! on Sunset Boulevard, amidst the 1930s buildings...and they can have Indy and Star Tours on the other side of Hollywood Boulevard. As a movie set, whether or not you like the hat (certainly your prerogative), it does fit in with the theming...I just wish it were more than a glorified gift shop...

well it DOES mess up the perspective of the Hollywood Blvd. "set". Therefore, it looks out of place and jarring to the viewer. Nut the reason I heard it was built there is because Disney lost the rights to use the image of Hollywood Blvd and the Chinese theater at the end because the rights of the original theater in CA transferred owners. If this was going to be permenent icon, i would hope they would have put more of an effort into it and themed it better. Doesnt compare to any of the other park icons by a long shot. Its like the same idea as the "lovely" magic wand on Spaceship Earth...which I HOPE is going when they begin work on Gemini. It was cute for a year or two, but now its just getting old.
