Exactly! Well put! It's disney magic, who cares what street takes you up there.

I think Disney owns another smaller company but I forget the name off the top of my head. I know they formed smaller production companies so that they could make rater R movies and NOT stick the Disney name on them. This was the major reason for owning other companies.

Miremax? Demension Films? Touchtone Pictures? Are one of those what you're thinking about?

I hope the change some of the scenes within the ride itself...and the movie clips too. I like this rides...its just gotten a little old.
I can remember how freaked out I was when they actually updated to include Pearl Harbor in the clips. It was like it almost didn't fit with all that older stuff. I still love that whole clip reel at the end though. It gives me chills each time I see it!!

dogsrule said it better; thats what i meant. i see what you're saying though... anyway speak of the devil, (the hat) i was just in orlando for easter weekend and saw the hat for the first time in person... wow do i hate it or what. my entire family agreed that it looked pretty tacky and really took away from the overall park feel that you had walking down mgm's ''mainstreet''

i'll write some more info concerning the hat when i finally get around to writing my trip report -so look for that one sometime next week.

cya!

I Completely agree!!!! Grauman's Chinese theater is so beautiful, and makes me feel like I'm in Hollywood. The hat does not, it's got to go.

Isn't it Mann's Chinese Theatre? Regardless, the hat is permanent.

Paramount is not owned ny Disney. They are owned by Viacom.

Esiner, used to work for Paramount before coming to Disney, but that is it.

I was gonna say...Paramount has their own amusement parks...Kings Island, Kings Dominion, Carowinds, Wonderland, Great America.

Disney did this with Tokyo Disneyland...that property is separate from the Walt Disney Company (not sure if they are entirely separate or only mostly separate--I don't know what percentage the Oriental Land Company owns...)

---Major thread drift :) -----------

Disney licenses the "Disney" name to the Oriental Land Company, OLC doesn't "own" the name (but it does own most of the park :).) In total, Disney retains around 5% of revenue from food and merchandise and 10% from admissions. Disney maintains complete control over the design and development of the park and retained a significant amount of control of the operations of the park.

As for Blackstone buying Universal, Universal would no longer be associated with the parks at all (if plans for the "sale" go on as reported). Also, it seems Blackstone wants the parks as an investment, not a long-term ownership, meaning more of a disaster for them. A license agreement from Universal would be more ideal, as with Disney and Tokyo Disneyland, but it seems Vivendi just wants to get Universal off its back, no matter how many pieces they divide the company into. Its kind of a shame. This same kind of thing almost happened to the Disney company in the early '80s (if I'm remembering my dates right).

They might have changed the name presently, but Grauman's is the original name of the theater when it was built in the 1920's.

Great America is owned by Six Flags not Paramount

A couple of things to touch on...

I was doing some digging around about the MGM deals and discovered that Time Warner ended up purchasing a lot of the older film libraries from MGM went the corporate suits nearly ran it into the ground in the '90s. That would have a bearing on what stays and goes if/when MGM finally pulls out on their agreement with Disney.

Mann's Chinese Theater was originally named Grauman's Chinese Theater, but the name was changed after someone bought the theater out. Since the city of Hollywood has been on a big restoration plan, the theater has had its original name restored.

>>>A license agreement from Universal would be more ideal, as with Disney and Tokyo Disneyland<<<

I really hope that cooler heads prevail and an OLC contract and typed up ASAP. That might happen, because now it is being rumored that Vivendi would like to buy back some of these assets when they have the financial means to do so. A sell-off and buy back plan would side step a lot of royalty payments and tax penalties that Vivendi would have to take and still allow them to get the quick cash needed to get them out of their crater.
