Great Movie Ride Update

The hat does mess up the '30s Hollywood "set", however, I think it adds a certain touch of Disney magic, if you will, to the Studios. The sorcerer's hat has not only become a symbol of Disney animation wizadry and movie-making, but also the magic created by the very one's who designed it and the parks themselves, the imagineers. Its pure Disney, in my opinion. No where else on Earth will you find something like this. Besides, one must also realize that it has a much deeper meaning than "just a hat".

It might not seem to fit in with Hollywood Blvd. at first, but how does an English castle fit in with a Turn of the Century American Main Street? In my opinin though, it does exemplify the magic of Disney movies and imagination.

(I guess you can tell I like the hat:) Well, not at first, but I've learned to appreciate it the more I thought about it)

As for the GMR rehab, I'd love to see some updates throughout the ride. But the one thing that does irritate me a little, is how the GMR sticks up behind the hat. It's obvious the hat is "hiding" something. That's why I wonder if the exterior will remain changed (some of the 'fancy' columns along the roof have been removed already....Probably just for rehab, but maybe a permanent change in its exterior look)

I love TGMR, but, I do think it is in need of a change, and a villian ride would be perfect. Imagine a ride using the same technology that spiderman uses (3d, dark ride, lots of effects), only for a ride where someone gets kidnapped, maybe jasmine from aladdin, and you and aladdin and the genie have to ride on a magic carpet type car, and chase her through the disney villians universe. Capt Hook, Ursula, Scar, Jafar, and that BIG UGLY THING in fantasia(the one with the wings) The possiblities are mind boggling!:hammer:

There is one thing that has always boggled my mind is that Gone with the wind is right up there with Wizard of oz as one of the most beloved "classics" and it is a mgm movie yet there is no scene from Gone with the wind except at the ending movie. I think it would be awesome if they put an animatronic scene of gone with the wind in there. and yes they should have some modern movies like say Star wars or Close encounters of the third kind or Matrix or Men in Black!:D

The thing with Gone With The Wind is that there isn't one particularly "memorable" scene. The movie is "memorable," but there is no 1 scene that everyone remembers from the movie... make any sense?

I bet everyone that likes Gone with the wind remembers the either the opening scene with Scarlett talking to the tarleton twins or the scene where Rhett carries Scarlett up the stairs to the bedroom or when Scarlett is in thje fields and she vows to never be hungry again and surely they remember the scene at the end where Rhett tells Scarlett that he doesn`t "GIVE A DAMN"

Yes, his name is Chernabog, and you may see him in Fantasmic or Spectromagic, weather permitting. You know, maybe they could include Yensid in your "Villians" ride, but again, please stop destroying old rides to build new ones. Update the old ones and add new ones. MGM has become a 1/2 day park with all of their recent closures.

I would love a Chicago scene addition. However, is there any information to truly confirm that? Does anyone know if Disney has the rights to Chicago? The reason Gone With the Wind is not in the great movie ride is because the movie has some major racist themes.

I think they should add scenes from Clerks and Office Space. Have Lumberg take over the ride instead of some gangster. Instead of that big gem at the top of the pyramid, make it a red stapler.

I heard the same rumor about them putting Chicago in but that was it. I find it hard to believe that many people will ride just because they added Chicago and some new scenes in the movies. They need to either leave it alone or do some major changes.

If they made it into the Dinsey ride, it would be taking out the heart and soul of The Dinsey MGM Studios. Besides, they already have a villians ride, which is Fantasmic. If they make the Disney villains ride, people would think that Disney is obsessed with their villains.

I Tottaly agree with you, GMR Has been(at least to me) the icon of the studios, Being all the classic flims and such. And the chinesee theater for that matter(untill they built the out of place hat) My opipion is that GMR, change a few of the sceans, Miramax/touchstone/disney have come out with some great flims the last 10-15 years they could use for this. IE: Chicago, Signs, Splash, and so many others they could use. They need to keep Indiana, Casablanca, and others cause they just are too good and too legandary to get ride of. What would be cool is if they waited till pirates is out to rehab it and put that in.

Does anyone ever read this, or do i just write cause i have no life:)

I have to honestly say, i am against any reforming TGMR into a "villans" ride. It would tottaly ruin the concept of the studios. Yet, im not that big on thrill rides. thats why universal has nothin going for me. I think mgm needs more tours, more backstage stuff, more 70-90 tv show stuff(i love the abc resturant cause it has all the old pictures in there) I also think star tours could use an update, Ive been a star wars fan since i was 3 but cant stand to go on that ride, i do love the atmosphere. maybe TGMR could use like a James bond scean. I also think they should utilize the backlot alot more.

I don't think this is true, because if you walk around MGM, you will see trash cans with the origional Chinese Theatre logo on them. Without a doubt I know Rosy's and Catalina Eddie's are SURROUNDED by them, and if this is true, Disney wouldn't leave these sitting around...

Need I remind you MGM made Indiana Jones, Twilight Zone, most of the Great Movie Ride movies...

MGM is not themed to be in the 1930s--it is themed to be a modern day production set where sections are in the 1930s--that is why we can have Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, Beauty and the Beast, Tower of Terror (I realize that's the 30s...but they obviously are going for the whole "be a part of the movies" theme here) and Fantasmic! on Sunset Boulevard, amidst the 1930s buildings...and they can have Indy and Star Tours on the other side of Hollywood Boulevard. As a movie set, whether or not you like the hat (certainly your prerogative), it does fit in with the theming...I just wish it were more than a glorified gift shop...
lol, I dont think MGM really knows what exactly it is trying to be themed to! I mean, I agree with the "production set-themed-to-be-1930s" thing, but isnt what the whole park is anyway? I mean, then you could call the MK a "Florida swamp themed to be a Disneyland" . Mabey not.
Actually, I think with sunset boulevard and Hollywood Boulevard, they actually were trying to theme it to a "place" instead of a "place on a movie set". I therefore never really saw how Rock n Rollercoaster fit in there, but I guess it was where they had room.

Actually, I think the "Wizard of Oz" should have its own dark ride....If there was one movie you could pick from the 1930s to be the most "Disney-esque", I'd probably choose the WIzard of Oz!

I must say that the Hat sucks! Okay not entirely, but it completely ruined that "ooohhhh-aaahhhh I'm in Hollywood feeling" when you enter Disney-MGM Studios. The hat should have been placed as an entrance to Fantasmic rather than in front of the theatre. As to the whole MGM thing, it's kinda scary to see all the MGM references removed from the promotional DVD. If Disney were wise they would buy MGM, and could thus market it and use it like crazy! A Wizard of Oz ride would be fantastic! As to TGMR, Aliens should go, the Fantasia area should be fixed with Disney magic and be made part of the entrance to the Oz seen by making it be the tornado that I believe was the original point to that section. They could add some objects that magically fly through the air along with animatronics of the mean lady(can't remember her name) that magically becomes the cackling wicked witch animatronic (just like in the movie)! How cool would that be? Alright, I admit it I'm an imagineer wannabe! :D Anyway, I hope this rehab is for the better!
Oh yeah, as for the Villains ride, save that for a new ride somewhere else! Disney-MGM has already lost too many things that really made you feel like you were part of the movie making magic.

Actually Paramount made Indiana Jones, Fox made Star Wars and Aliens, and CBS made the Twilight Zone. The Great Movie Ride could be redone with all Disney production company movies, but it will not be in the next few years.

I can just see the Cat From Outer Space popping up in the ride instead of the Alien. Instead of Singin' In the Rain, Gus the Field Goal Kicking Mule.
