Great Movie Ride one of the lowest ranked attractions at WDW (Condé Nast)

How do rides like Dumbo and Spaceship Earth even compare? They are COMPLETELY different rides that fill COMPLETELY different purposes. It's not even comparing apples to oranges... it's more like comparing apples to Rubik's Cubes.
You are 100% correct on that. I may prefer some rides to others, but at the end of the day, those rides could be completely different.

The article also includes things that are not rides despite the title, uses some incorrect/bad photos, doesn't include Na'vi River Journey or Flight of Passage (or the Wildlife Express Train)...
  1. I'm guessing the standards for these shows being qualified as rides were that they are all indoors and run continuously.
  2. That was most likely the editor's fault.
  3. The list was probably being made before Pandora was open and I find it funny that Carl did forgot the Wildlife Express Train.
I just hope people who read this are smart enough to pass it off as trash.
The target audience of this article are most likely the people who can't think for themselves about these rides. Otherwise, most WDW fans can pass this list off as garbage.

Absolutely ridiculous, uninformed list.

Hall of Presidents, Carousel of Progress, Living with the Land are below Primeval Whirl? Dumbo is better than Spaceship Earth? Mad Tea Party better than everything I mentioned? Laugh Floor better still?

Toy Story, Soarin' and 7DMT WAY too high.

American Adventure not even on the list, but Hall of Presidents is?

Fail list.

A better idea would be to split the rides into groups based on ticket level or ride type or something like that, and rank/rate them from there, but even that would have flaws

Or just copy Stacey and her Must-Do Disney! and rank best in each park in terms of their priority in worth doing.

This is where the whole thing gets really subjective, for a four year old, Dumb will be Better than Spaceship Earth. But Primevil Whirl is worse than Dumbo as it doesn't have the same classic status.

If I was tasked with building a ride designed to bore people to sleep, it would look A LOT like the GMR.

Just sayin'.

Oddly enough, they use the same ride system.

The only ride system made that makes an Omnimover look like a thrill ride.

Jungle Cruise below Laugh Floor makes a bit of sense given Jungle Cruise uses the same jokes again and again, while Laugh Floor is a different experience every time. So for comedy's sake, LF is superior. But Jungle Cruise's animatronics are great. If only it could go back to the olden days where skippers could make up their own material as long as it was PG.

I'm also not sure how relevant Moonlight Parade or Public Enemy are these days, compared to... Any other musical film or the Godfather respectively. Most young folks (14~25 range) DO know Mary Poppins, Singing in the Rain, Alien, Indiana Jones, John and Casablanca as well. Maybe not little kids, but they won't know a lot of Disney movies either. Looking down on the young for using new technology is never a good look, either... I'm sure the internet is a lot more useful for a 30 minute rundown on movie history than GMR is, given it isn't constrained to examining only American films made by certain companies.

However the issue is not the movies. The issue is how damn bored and rushed the cast members sound these days (generally). Can they not afford to hire decent actors and actresses any longer? Do they think they can have them slack off thanks to the narration? And what the hell happened to the cowboy hijack scene?

It's still an attraction with a lot of potential, and I'm sad to see it's been degraded so much people would actually rate it so lowly. It could definitely use some updating, though unless the Mickey ride is a retheming, I doubt we'll ever see that.

Gran Fiesta Tour being so high is ridiculous though, until the recent update with the Cabelleros AAs it was just a travelogue better fit for a theater like O Canada or Reflections of China (both of which are great btw) than a boat. Space Mountain being at 2 is ridiculous too- it's just a roller coaster in the dark. There's nothing to it, save like 5 seconds of an astronaut duo at the start. If you want barebones coasters why are you at Disney?

Condé Nast's Insider ranked every attraction at WDW and (conveniently) placed GMR, Ellen, and Stitch at the bottom of the list.

The rankings are quirky. Some attractions are in seemingly random places for odd reasons (e.g. Swiss Family Treehouse is ranked low simply because there are other things to do at the MK). Photos borrow freely from DL and WDW even though the article is only about Florida. But the authors are Disney fans because they lament the losses of the original Imagination and Living Seas, and highly recommend the Tiki Room and "original" TOT.

Condé Nast Traveler and its sister sites like Insider are regarded as some of the most influential travel publications for wealthy tourists. What do you think about these rankings?

So how much did Disney pay for this review so they have 'data' supporting the ride closure

Can't say I disagree. The Great Movie Ride is as dated as expired eggs. The animatronics are wooden, the references tired. Nothing in the ride takes into account the massive changes the industry has gone through in the past two decades. It would be great if the ride was reimagined so it took into consideration the classic movies - starting with silent films, and continued on with the massive technological changes that came with CGI. When the most technologically advanced film referenced in the ride is Aliens, you have a dated attraction.

Nope 'paid placement' list to justify Disney shutting down 'unpopular' attractions
