The spa at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort will be closing September 19th. No official word on how long or if it will reopen.

Only thing I can think of is that this has something to do with the DVC construction, possibly to use the space for something else in the meantime.

I would assume it would have to reopen sooner rather than later. It is the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. Not to mention, it is also used as the gym for both GF and the Polynesian...

I think it is a contracted spa and not run by Disney. Could they be in the process of obtaining a different contract? When I was there last year I believe I read something on the wall that said something along the lines of "owned and operated by Tina's Spa". Of course that is not word for word but I definitely got the impression that it was not a Disney owned and operated spa. Can anyone confirm?

I certainly hope this is not true.

I understand the need for improvements and re-refurbishments, and I've seen the posts with people upset that something will be closed while they are on their trip. But I happen to be in this boat right now.

I've been saving for 2 + years for a trip I've been calling super trip. 8 Days at the Poly with all the bells and whistles I could muster up. I plan on proposing to my girlfriend on the first of October with her parents and my parents flying down as a surprise. and I booked a spa treatment for all the ladies which cost a pretty penny and I have all my plans based around this. I don't want to re-plan out my entire proposal that I have been trying to make perfect for a year.

Ouch! Hopefully it's a short closure.

I would call today and see what they tell you.

The spa at Saratoga Spring (and I think the Yatch Club) is run by the same company.

I'm not sure how much reworking that would require (and I feel your pain on that), but they should be able to, hopefully, transfer that reservation to another facility.

Best case this is just a short term shut down, but with the impending DVC construction I would be doubtful.

No inside info, but you can't help but notice the walls for whatever unannounced massive construction project is planned for the area (cough, DVC, cough) are on either side of the spa. In fact, even the walkway back to the front door has walls on either side. Guessing that's not a coincidence.

I've been on hold and transferred around for about 10 minutes. I just got conformation that it is indeed being closed. She was actually shocked that I had called so quickly to confirm that it was indeed closing. I'm currently on hold trying to move the reservations to the Contemporary. :(

I love how the one thing on Disney property that I would normally not ever care about has really affected my plans. Oh well here's to last minute changes. I was dreading having to figure out a way to get everyone to Saratoga Springs or somewhere like that. At least with the Contemporary resort it's a fairly quick ride on the monorail.

oh well.

Sorry to hear this messes up your plans!! :( Best of luck with changing things, hope they work out! When she said closing, did she say closing for good, or closing for rehab, or anything specific like that?!

She just paused and shockingly said , "Wow....that was quick.". After that I was just scrambling to come up with ideas on how to make all my plans work. Asking specifics about the future was no where on my radar.

And the DVC onslought continues...

:(
Before someone comes here and defends DVC, let me just say I have no problem specifically with DVC expanding. In fact, I was excited when I first saw the announcement that DVC might actually be coming to GF (it could've been a reason for us to join). My problem is where they decided to place it. I was convinced that DVC would end up replacing an existing building or be built to the north of the existing hotel. Instead, they've chosen to go south, mess up GF's beach, take away that intimate tucked-away feeling of the Wedding Pavilion, and now (hopefully temporarily) shut down the spa and fitness center as well. All that, and I don't think the new building will even have views of the Castle. It's sad to watch.

Hopefully this is short-term. Took my wife there last year and they did wonders with her bad neck. Was planning on getting her another treatment in December.
