Grand Floridian DVC - Problem I thought of

Actually, shouldn't say it's a problem, but it's something that if I were to buy into GF DVC, I'd certainly question.

One of the BIGGEST draws (at least I would think) to most about staying at the GF is the service. The robes in the room, the fabulous housekeeping, the nightly turndown service. Being a DVC property, I assume none of this will be available, at least unless you want to pay a higher housekeeping premium. How will this sit with folks who are regulars of the GF and plan on buying there?

The lack of housekeeping isn't something that Disney hides when you make your DVC purchase. I think that people purchasing at the GF will be doing so for the location and resort itself. You might possibly see robes in the rooms though since I have a feeling that the amount of points to stay here will be a bit higher.

Seeing as how you've stated a thousand times you won't ever buy in to the DVC, I wouldn't worry about it.

Just like the Grand Californian - there are robes in the rooms there as well. I would assume this would be similar.

At this point, we don't know what amenities will be in/with the GF DVC rooms. I believe the AKV concierge rooms get daily housekeeping, robes, and turndown, it wouldn't surprise me if at least some of the GF villas do as well.

If that is the case, wouldn't that upset other DVC members who own elsewhere?

Well they could make some rooms concierge at GFV like they have at AKV (although I doubt it) and charge a lot more points. I think that in the end people will understand you just don't get daily housekeeping unless you pay for it and be content with it. If they don't like that idea, I have a feeling there will be plenty of others lining up to purchase points at GF.

AKV Concierge is its own unique category. Just like BCV has SAB, BLT has Top of the World Lounge, BWV has the Boardwalk view, etc. Each resort has its own plusses and all DVC members have a shot at getting to try them. So robes at AKV Concierge should not upset other members.

Why would it? The entire resort isn't concierge, villas that would be concierge would require more points. At Animal Kingdom Lodge's villas, the concierge service was incorporated into the overall cost of the Villas, so the points and dues for VAK cover this cost. Presumably, were GF to offer concierge service, the amount of points needed for this service would reflect that

If other DVC members start whining over some resorts having a concierge level but not others, and there are enough whiners out there, I would think Disney could start offering a Concierge experience that goes above and beyond Daily room care, but it would be a charge as opposed to the use of more points. Either that or I suppose each resort could create a concierge level for more points and balance that out by requiring fewer points for other non-concierge rooms. But in that scenario, I would think a home resort owner who may have to book a concierge room for more points because all the "regular" rooms are booked would be furious.

And of course, any dvc member would be welcome to book a concierge room at GF, they will just have to use more points and wait for the seven month window, just like dvc members who don't own at AK have to do to get concierge service there...and last I checked, there has been no uprising...

So i'll ask again, why would other, current DVC members be upset if GF offered a concierge section? or even if the whole resort is concierge?

There is some obvious give-and-take in any DVC purchase. Resort options are somewhat limited. There is not unlimited flexibility in room layouts (i.e. no bunk bed rooms, no trundle beds, only one resort has two queen beds in a Studio room, etc.) No daily housekeeping, and so on.

But those are compromises people are willing to make.

At risk of sounding like a broken record, I bought into DVC to save 60-70% on my trips. I fully realize that I could forego DVC, book rooms at the Poly or Contemporary Tower with daily housekeeping & bathrobes and still save 30% off rack most of the year. But the added flexibility and amenities aren't worth the extra dollars to me. I'll pocket the extra savings--literally hundreds of dollars per trip--and make my own bed, thank you very much.

As for the issue of bath robes, as another poster mentioned they are provided at the Grand Californian's DVC villas. It's entirely possible the Grand Floridian will include them, too. Member dues will pay for supplying and laundering the robes.

We wouldn't have any problems with it, and we are looking forward to possibly buying there as well. The lack of daily service has never bothered us in our DVC stays to date, and while robes might be nice, they certainly wouldn't be a requirement, or cause us not to stay there if they don't have them. Time will tell what Disney will do for us.

I was unaware of the concierge level at AKV.

Sorry, but I think the above question is kind of obvious, and it's got nothing to do with DVC.

You know what? My bad. Caffeine shortage or something. I thought your post was more about DVC members being upset that GF may or may not get concierge service, as opposed to GF regulars not wanting to buy DVC there if it means NOT getting concierge service.

But I will say this - even if you're the type of person to always look for amazing discounts (and I know you are), I think DVC at GF will attract more people who might not otherwise stay at GF due to its cost, than intrigue regular GF guests into buying into DVC. I could be wrong, everyone has different motivations for doing whatever it is they do. And I know there are people who scrimp and save to stay at GF, it's not all filthy rich cats who don't think twice about the money they spend on vacation. But I think the scrimpers and savers will be the ones more prone to buy, whether there will be concierge or not...

But I do think there will be at least a concierge section to GF DVC...or it just may be the first (perhaps only, ever) all concierge DVC resort, with a price point and point price to "justify" it.

We pay the $10 a day for the Towel and Garbage cleaning every time we stay. So it's not a lot of money and we get what we consider the important things taken care of while staying, garbage & towels.

I would like to see a concierge level added to some additional locations, first off BLT is a natural fit for it.
