Grand Floridian DVC - Problem I thought of

If that is the case, wouldn't that upset other DVC members who own elsewhere?

It would not bother me, because as a DVC member I have the option to book at any resort, within 7 months.

I like options, IF I want the extra services and am willing to spend the points I'd stay at GF. But if I'd rather keep points for a different stay and still enjoy the great location at Boardwalk, I'd stay there.

Options are a great added value.

We pay the $10 a day for the Towel and Garbage cleaning every time we stay. So it's not a lot of money and we get what we consider the important things taken care of while staying, garbage & towels.

I would like to see a concierge level added to some additional locations, first off BLT is a natural fit for it.

The only thing with adding a "concierge level" is that it risks throwing the point structure out of whack. Your points represent a tiny percentage of the resort that technically you own as your part of the timeshare (with the caveat that at some point your deed reverts back to Disney). They can't just now add services and assign a point to their worth, because that throws off your ownership interest in the resort. What (I think) DVC could do to add concierge levels to each resort is one of two things.

1: Have the DVC board approve the cost of a concierge level and pass that cost to the owners of that resort, many of whom may have zero interest in this new expense and would be cheesed that they're incurring it;

2: Contract Disney Mousekeeping services (or whoever would provide the service) to provide the service on a purely as-requested basis. So the DVC resort and its owners don't pay anything to contract this service, but anyone staying at the resort who wants the service pays a premium to get it, and how much that would be would be decided by Mousekeeeping/whoever is doing it.

#2 makes more sense to me. Don't think I'd ever want it, but I guess it would also depend on things like the length of my stay and how much it would be. 20 bucks a night for a weekend getaway? Maybe, it'd be nice to be pampered for a few days. But not for a long trip and not for much more than that.

Either DVC has some data suggesting that concierge isn't particularly popular with members or they just aren't interested in getting into that business. The Jambo concierge villas were something of a necessary evil given the location of the lounge. If not "necessary evil" then path of least resistance.

DVC had every opportunity to include a concierge level in the design of Kidani Village, BLT, Grand Californian and particularly Aulani. In the case of Aulani, they would have even had some data regarding demand for AKV Concierge while the Hawaiian property was still in design phases.

Perhaps GV will buck that trend but I have my doubts. DVC has released a fair amount of information about the resort and there has been no mention of concierge. Given the relatively small amount of space allocated, I suspect DVC would rather build 2 or 3 additional villas rather than reserving space for a concierge lounge.

But in the case of Grand Floridian, there already is an onsite Concierge lounge, isn't there? They wouldn't make the concierge floors DVC floors, but they could give DVC members access to the lounge, if something were worked out for the DVC section to have concierge rooms.

I'm sure there is a lounge at GF but I don't know it's proximity with regard to the DVC wing. And there are also lounges at Beach Club, BoardWalk and Contemporary, but no DVC access.

Even at Jambo House, concierge access is limited to the 5 villas--there's no ability to buy into the lounge as an add-on. In fact, if I recall correctly the Jambo concierge lounge is legally part of the timeshare condo association with
DVC leasing access back to Disney's hotel operations. There is a clause in the POS which states that DVC has agreed to only grant access to those staying in the concierge villas. My take has always been that Disney was actively trying to protect the integrity of the concierge experience for hotel guests. They didn't want dozens of DVC members paying for concierge access, thus overcrowding the lounge and stretching Cast Member resources too thin. Hard to charge premium rates for concierge accommodations if the quality of the lounge and Cast Member attention is severely diminished.

Of course, that's just my deductive reasoning. Disney has tried pretty hard to boost revenue via VIP-type experiences in recent years and they may eventually see DVC concierge participation as another way to fill the coffers. Time will tell.

We wouldn't have any problems with it, and we are looking forward to possibly buying there as well. The lack of daily service has never bothered us in our DVC stays to date, and while robes might be nice, they certainly wouldn't be a requirement, or cause us not to stay there if they don't have them. Time will tell what Disney will do for us.

Agree all around.
Especially the lack of daily service not being a problem.
In fact, it's almost become a hassle when I stay at other hotels and the maid comes knocking. I kinda like the 4th day thing.

It's gonna be very "pricey" for DVC Members to stay at the Grand Floridian, any extra perks offered will be more than paid for with the extra points they've used. Nobody with any sense will have a problem with that.
