The French Quarter is unique and charming. DTLA is a pathetic wannabe urban area that is neither unique or charming.
From books to beer! The outdoor seating area is charming, now imagine 30 drunk parents saying horrible things to their kids who simply want to go on a ride and see Mickey Mouse. This new area is completely non-disney and looks like anyplace USA shopping/entertainment district. Sure, it will make money, but at what expense?
No offensive but this isn't for kids. Its simply a place to catch your breath and have a brew. I love the idea, and I don't care a bit if it isn't "disney themed". I'll stop for 1 or 2 when I return to DHS. Shouldn't be much hate here as its really just a plus and its not replacing anything.
They do mixed drinks on tap at The Polite Pig and Disney Springs and they seemed pretty well received. When it says "cocktails on tap" does that mean that they're premade? Kind of gross if so.
Agreed. But at least this new Grand Avenue area has nothing that is exclusive to current-day downtown Los Angeles. Except for the streetlights, they did recreate those very accurately.
But the rest of Grand Avenue could be any city in America, and has nothing that looks exclusively like LA. Although I can't think of any American urban area that has a perfect view of a Tatooine gift shop across the street.
I can understand that. I'm just spoiled because there are so many places at WDW to get a good or great cocktail IMO.They do mixed drinks on tap at The Polite Pig and Disney Springs and they seemed pretty well received.

Updated park map, and I have a few observations. First, they removed the pipes from the Muppet*Vision show building. Also you can now see Miss Piggy on the map, which was previously just a blue dot. Oddly enough it still looks like a planter.
It seems like it was reversed engineered. I imagine the conversation something like this:
OK, we need to keep the place-setting in L.A. and we got to keep those facades. Do any of those facades look like it could be L.A.?
Well, if you paint the corner one yellow, it sorta resemble a building on Grand Avenue by 7th Avenue.
Great, Grand Avenue it is. Paint the others to be L.A.-ish. Add a bar. Put up flyers in PizzeRizzo. Put up signs in the street everywhere calling it Grand Avenue!
But isn't Grand Avenue known for the giant contemporary buildings in the theater and arts district?
We'll say it's "downtown L.A." then.
Won't people think of Rodeo Drive and Beverly Hills if you say "downtown L.A."
You're fired.
it is very Disney Springs like. Could easily have been put into The Landing.
I feel like that's where it belongs, the parks seem to be turning into disney springs and drinking but its all about profit from every corner, so Im sure more of these are on the way. Thats the crowd they seem to be interested in.
I wonder how many people at WDW when looking at this area would recognize it as part of LA. I know I wouldn't. I think it looks nice for what it is. I wish it was a real bar where you could get some great cocktails like the Carthay Circle Lounge at DCA but this is what it is and I guess it's better than some options.Well, on the one hand, just about every major restaurant in a 'wet' park has an associated 'lounge'. And so, the Sci-Fi Drive-In now has it's associated lounge.
OTOH, it's theme has nothing to do with SFDI.

Ok, but this is a theme park, not Westfield mall. There has to be something more immersive and fantastic than that!No offensive but this isn't for kids. Its simply a place to catch your breath and have a brew. I love the idea, and I don't care a bit if it isn't "disney themed". I'll stop for 1 or 2 when I return to DHS.
