Grand Avenue and Baseline Tap House

We will. That was the point of my response. The majority of the posts in this thread have NOT been related to the project not looking like DTLA.

Enjoy yourself. Enjoy what you want. No one's telling you not to, yet you're trying to stop discussion by asking people to stop talking about the project. If you want no part of the conversation, don't participate. Simple.

Maybe not the majority of post but its a bit off topic! If its such a hot debate then why not create a thread devoted to it instead of veering off the threads original discussion. Simple. Now I will go back to ignoring you.

I know it wasn't referring to me but I could care less that it looks nothing like DTLA but I'm not telling anyone not to talk about it :). I'm not sure why they insisted on suggesting it would be anything like it. I mean, maybe they could have said "inspired by from a certain time period", that would have been better, lol. It was a poor choice.

Honestly the real Downtown Los Angeles is a lot seedier than you would expect. It's not the kind of place you want to replicate in a theme park. But if they wanted to be authentic, they could get crappy Minnie Mouse costumes for meet n greets in the area! It would be an upcharge of course, but you wouldn't know that until after getting your picture taken.

For those who haven't been to downtown LA, Grand Avenue does exist and is most notable for the row of giant museums and concert halls that line this broad and car-centric corridor, broken up by massive pedestrian plazas with fountains and expanses of marble or concrete.

Grand Avenue through downtown LA is impressive, and the swanky museums and lavish concert halls and auditoriums rival facilities in any other glittering world capital. But when an Angeleno thinks Grand Avenue, the words charming and pedestrian friendly do not come to mind.

What am I missing here in this faux Grand Avenue backstory that WDI is creating for DHS??? It's just weird.

Well then maybe a name change is in order! How about Mediocre Street, In Between Lane or Anywhere Avenue?
Either way I don't really care its a small mildly themed area in an amusement park that is basically a waiting area to enter into Star Wars Galaxy Edge. Honestly I am just glad that they built Baseline Tap House so I can relax have a beer and a snack in an air conditioned area before heading back to touring the park.

saw it when I rode GMR for the last time facade looks far better than old SOA tbh the blue and white looked really well. but true area is still small .now they just need to fix the area around ABC commisionary and the trio of whatever we want you to buy theaters.

Photo update as of Saturday, September 2. Here is the faux weathered yellow building on Grand Avenue.

IMG_0030.JPG

The scaffolding has all been removed around the brick towers between Muppets Courtyard and Grand Avenue, revealing the lights and cap on the towers. Note the smaller "pass through" on the lower right side of the photo.

The poles around the Baseline Tap House now have light strings between some of the poles.

The panorama shows off part of the wall between Muppets Courtyard/Grand Park and Grand Avenue, as well as more detail in both the Baseline Taphouse and the yellow building, which is still needing a bit of paint. Of note is that the former Coke sign on the yellow building has had its anchor points covered up and painted. They kept it wrapped up when they were painting the building. Wonder why they chose not to have it stick around.

A dutch angle shows a bit more of the wall and some of the patio area of Baseline. The wall kinda looks like it might have a planter of some sort, which would be pretty great.

A slightly less dutch-like angle shows more of the patio area, with railing and light fixtures installed. A closeup:

The trio of buildings. Oddly, the yellow building hasn't had the top part weathered.

Baseline, including the new light strings. They seem to be your average bulbs, nothing crazy. Windows at the top are blacked out.

The logo which totally gives off a trendy-but-unique vibe with how many fonts are in it. The awning frame is still waiting for fabric.

Walls for days. Not much detail has been added to the SWL tunnel yet.

Now here's some fun for you. If you type 728 South Grand Avenue, Los Angeles, CA into Google Maps and go to street view, you'll probably see a parking garage and the ritziest looking Whole Foods you'll ever see. However, this is right next to Grand and 7th, which is exactly where one of the flyers in PizzeRizzo says the restaurant is located. If you look around in Street View, you'll see this building:

Grand and 7th Ave in Los Angeles, just like the flyers in PizzeRizzo says...

So they're accurate to LA in proximity at least.

I think really too much is being made of this. MS is "inspired" by Marceline, but really looks nothing like the vintage photos. New Orleans Square in DL has the "spirit" of real NOLA, but really looks nothing like the "real" NOLA. "Grand Avenue" is a small "connector" that serves as an entrance to the old Muppets Courtyard and a feeder to SWL, and will house a "contemporary" brew house. The theming will be at least congruent with the front of the park, and will probably be aesthetically pleasing. None of the streets in the front of the park really "look like" their namesakes, but were "inspired by" them. And probably 99% of the people visiting will ever have spent much time in DTLA.

This is what you'll see in Downtown LA on Grand Avenue between 7th and 8th; a Whole Foods topped by six stories of overpriced shoebox apartments. If you need organic kale or a studio apartment for $2,800 a month, this is your address!

Good thing WDI's Communications team and the cubicle drones at the Disney Parks Blog used the vague phrasing of "Inspired By!" to describe the Grand Avenue mini-land at DHS. Because it really looks nothing like what downtown Los Angeles looks like in the early 21st century.

My next trip is the weekend of 10/20. Does anyone have insight on the odds of this being open? Would love to visit the Tap House.

Nice to see the awnings extended because rain.

Nice photos.

I think you're forgetting that nobody really cares. It's a nice looking transition to SWL, that's it.

But a gaggle of WDI flunkies wrote a clever backstory about it! And they must have spent at least an hour or two on Google trying to find punny names for the faux businesses in the faux facades. And then the brain trust at the Disney Parks Blog in a Celebration cubicle farm spent at least another hour or two writing endless blather about how it's all "Inspired by!" the "vibrant, diverse cultures of present-day downtown Los Angeles!".

How can we let all those highly paid people down who depend on our vacation dollars for their salary by throwing in the towel like this?!?

It's a cheesy overpriced beer joint next to a 30 year old 3D Muppets movie in an amusement park, I get that. But think of the backstory! And the WDI interns! And the children!

Wow calm down seriously this is not that big of a deal! Its just an area much like Echo Lake is an area that doesn't look like Echo Park Lake or any of the many areas the Mouse has built looking exactly like their namesakes. Why do you have such a personal vendetta against it? It's not a big deal it's a area in a amusement park not thesis on brain surgery!
