At my local amusement park they are rolling out a season long fast pass for 2018. It’s a $499 add on, for one park..not open year round. What would the price point be for Disney?
I don’t think it will happen at WDW.
Fast Lane is not FastPass. It is a front of a line pass, not a reservation system that is intended more and more as a primary means of experiencing the park.

I cant imagine a local wanting to add this on. How many times can you realistically go on an attraction?
Hundreds if you ask my child.lol
My point is that hours have been cut across all parks, so there is nowhere else to go in certain cases. I think premium offerings are fine and whoever takes advantage of them is well within their rights to do so but at the cost of hours that were once available to everyone is just not cool with me. I strongly believe you should be able to pay more. I just think they have taken away too much.

I think this past year they’ve tried to even that out a bit. MK opened an hour earlier on party days, a lot of days with an hour of ‘extra magic’ before that... and the non party nights had a later closing time. Not a perfect scenario, but looks like they’re trying to cater to all.

"value" is different for every person. It is also different for every type of trip for individual people. In some cases, I will take advantage of a specific "extra cost offering". On other trips, I may just choose to keep it as cheap as possible or only take advantage of things offered as part of basic no extra cost experiences. Does allowing Springs hotel guests access to EMH damage the experience for others who chose to pay more and stay on property? To a degree yes because there are now more people in the park during EMH thus creating less opportunity to do as much as you could previously do. Will allowing people to buy extra FPs as part of their package effect the experience of other guests? Likely, as there are a limited number of FPs available and now the pool of people getting them is diminished. But, is it a choice I now have as well? Yes, so I can determine the particular value to me. After hours paid events, Cabanas, etc etc do not have an effect on others. There are 4 parks and if one closes early, just like during the Halloween or Christmas parties, I can visit another park on those evenings. Do my research and determine what is best for MY situation. But, that is a choice I can make based on what has value to me. I have a slight issue with how much they have devalued AP holders, BUT, I also recognize that if I go 25 days a year, Im paying 35/day and that in itself is a huge value. Then I can choose to eat at a sig restaurant or not. With TIW I see a value. I can choose to stay on property or not. I can choose to do a tour or not. There are still a ton of choices.
While I understand peoples assertion that things being done effect the overall experience of guests not wanting to essentially pay twice for something they already have access to, I also from person standpoint, make decisions on the park visits based on what has value to me. And this new Pay for FP option is just another choice I will be in a position to decide on for each trip.

I have to disagree with you here. I think there are a lot of people who don’t mind (or at least not totally) paying for the parties, myself included... because they do provide a decent value. I also don’t mind doing different parks or something else on the evenings when MK closes earlier.

The problem with the parties is they have 60 of them that start at 7...20 years ago that would have been additional hours...now it's basically cutting down what should be a 10-12 legitimate closing time to sell tickets.

This is moving us to more expensive "block" ticketing...and that's not good.

yet, they still havent come close to the late hours they used to be open at just about all the parks. I just miss staying late, because I am absolutely not a morning person and I definitely think there is a different magic to the parks at night.

I’m in complete agreement with you there!

It’s not the same for the consumer and not at all the same for operations.
Operations is why I don’t think it will ever happen at WDW.
I think there is a consumer want for it, as evidenced by parks across the country implementing such passes.. but there isn’t a good reason to do it at Disney. Not from an operational standpoint, and not from a price point option.
If you’re ok with standing in a stand by queue, then there isn’t a reason for dealing with booking FPs at WDW. I reserve my FPs for the same reason that I purchase a Fast Lane, and I’m sure millions of others do the same. People do it to skip the long wait times. Disney does it for crowd management.

A front of line pass doesn't have limits and is completely user friendly...

Fastpass is the opposite...tight windows, one shot and you have to eat and pee around them.

Tomato/eggplant

Which is why it can’t be completely changed to a “paid” only option.. it would have to become the same as Universal’s version and everywhere else. That doesn’t benefit Disney... so I don’t think people should be in fear of it actually happening.

As in - Youre a local, can go whenever you want, get FP last minute, go on slow days, evenings, mornings, every day. I cant see buying another round of anything.

Scratch that - forgot the lifestyler contingent.

How did you think Six Flags and Cedar Fair parks stay crowded all season long? Their pass holders are at the parks often..we go weekly at the very least.

I never said people dont. I said why would you start adding more rides at $16.66 a clip
That’s what I’m saying.. it’s because of the same reason people are now paying $500 for a “season long” fast lane as an addition to the annual pass itself, or $100+ for a single day of the Fast Lane.
Millions of people love rides, and the park industry has figured out that a large portion of said people will pay more money to go on rides more often than they could with admission/annual passes alone.

Which parks are closing earlier? Epcot has closed at 9 except in peak seasons as long as I can remember.... Animal Kingdom has *expanded* into nighttime hours. DHS has, but thats because it's pretty much a shell of it's former self at this point and demand just isn't there. I suspect when SWGE opens next year that DHS will be expanding it's hours once again. That leaves MK. And I remember a time when MK regularly closed at 7 in off-peak times, not even having fireworks (granted that was 25-30 years ago, but still). I have zero problem with the parties. The dates for them are known well in advance, if you don't like it just don't go to the park that day. Simple.

@asianway the vouchers in this photo are from a “game” Spin a Wheel at $5 per Spin and hope to land on a “good ride” so you can enter in the Fast Lane line.. we spun several times that day because we arrived 3 hours before park closing and I was too cheap to pay $200 for a fast lane for that amount of time. This way was $35, much cheaper, but unfortunately we landed on a few lemons.lol.

There are so many people who will pay to skip lines and ride their favorites multiple times...no matter how frequently they visit.
