If Mater does not reply,I will assume it is OK to add or use infastructure,as long as it is not currently a restaurant. It doesn't say we can't...

I know that I post a lot, but I just have to throw ideas out there, it's how I direct in the theater too, so just bear with me, but....

What if we added TWO floors, for a total of three. The first would be the entrance/elevator, and the second the Toontown Commissary, the place where the "actors" would have eaten, and the third floor, the more elegant dining room, where the executives/directors and whatnot would have eaten. That way we can have a dining experience that is more suited for families, and one more suited for adults, all within the same context and story.

Just my thoughts...

WHOOHOO!!!

I don't know if we'll end up going with Walt's Place or not, but if we do, I think one official drink should be Walt's Malt.

BTW, I have a whole backstory for the restaurant in mind if you guys want to hear it.

Also, I just created an AIM Chat room called GoofysBrainstormers if anyone would want to chat. My AIM name is also Fractal514http://chat.aim.com/chats/games/goofysbrainstorme-

Ah! You direct theater as well? I knew there was a reason I liked you!

So far...I like this idea! A place for Toons, and a place for execs(ie.people!)

My only worry is about the whole "Movie Set" idea I get from the original project posting...Are we supposed to make it look like a movie set first, and a restaurant second?

Or am I misreading the original post?

I know what you mean, the set idea did worry me. But with this notion, we could have "Sid" do a movie about a wacky toon waiter who works in "Walt's Place" and has to deal with his crazy clientele.

Fractal,I'd love to hear the backstory!

I have another idea. We could have different rooms based off of Walt's different classics. There would be paintings of the main characters in each movie's room, with colors that represent film. Ex.-Jungle Book would have browns and greens. It could be similar to the dining rooms that change colors, and have art of characters. It is elegant, but Disneylike at the same time.

I've been very rundown and busy this week, so i'm still a little unavailable (catching up); but as my other project is finished, i can now devote to this!

I'm loving the walt's place... i always felt something needed to be added to the one man's dream and animation area :)

all the stuff i hear gives me a mix of walts restaurant in DL and the animator's palate on the ships... i love it! :D

btw, i saw something about two floors to cater to differnt style guests. maybe we could somehow work that in, like theme out the elevators to each one (like hidden or decorated in some way, or help to draw its particular crowd to it.

i've got this odd idea about them being metaphors of portals to diff versions of walt's life; the more family friendly one is steeped in animation and characters, wacky props and decor (maybe a small 'toon wait staff to help with overwork) and the other tends to be more relaxed, but serious, kind of like walt's private life. it could be refined like club 33 (w/out the insane entry ticket), but still keep the somewhat animated life tha walt had, with things that interested him, or would keep the guests interest (hidden things, unsuspectable AA's, random disney effects.)

I did like the lines of trying it in with the animation heyday of the 30's with the roger rabbit tie in... like a brown derby for toons.. that sounds great too!

Walt's place, the notorious hot spot for animation stars and moguls alike, has been world renowned for decades. While the current incarnation of the studio restaurant is well-known, what is less famous is the story of the first studio diner, a certified disaster. Walt was known to enjoy mixing business and food, having lunch with Mickey, Donald, and various other stars, and also hosting dignitaries and luminaries from around the world for dinner. When Walt conceived of his first restaurant he built it with only one dining room, a rather large central room with plenty of tables for both toons and executives alike. The result was chaos! Many a delicate business negotiation was interrupted by an exploding cake, chipmunk chased by a dog, or even a full blown spontaneous musical number. Furthermore, the toons were not at all pleased with the high end fare the executives desired, opting for Minnie's Mac and Cheese recipe over Roy's favorite fish. In an effort to keep everyone happy, and also maintain a central location for which toons and executives could conduct business lunches/dinners and grab a bite to eat between takes, Walt's Place was born. A stunning three story building complete with an open gallery for the toons to dine in, and a more upscale and posh dining room for the dignitaries, this restaurant demonstrates the two sides to Walter E. Disney (though it should be noted he dined downstairs far more often.)

Yay...mewhunter, and fractal...that's how I envision it too!
An elegant upscale dining spot, with Walt and maybe the 9 old men firmly in mind...

and then a floor of outrageousness built for Toons to dine in! That part really excites me...but it's probably the set designer in me!

We could put a restaurant above Voyage of the Little Mermaid and Walt Disney: One Man's Dream called Roger's Buffeteria. It could be a character meal with Mickey, Daisy, Oswald, Mushu, and Stitch at Breakfast, and Minnie, Pluto, Roger, Rafiki, and Timon at dinner, where it can be an option for the Fantasmic! Dinner Package.

What do you think?
:D

I think for me, the thing I want to see, more than anything else, is a really good restaurant at DHS. Brown Derby is mixed at best, and not really Disney's, it's someone else's that disney recreated. 50's and Sci Fi are great, but not really elegant dining. I want something like Crystal Palace, California Grille, or something like that. I might be alone though, everyone?

I agree...Disney does need more upscale dining options.
But I like the idea that we are creating something that encompasses both upscale...and fun... with two rooms.(or floors)

I do sort of envision Walt's place (the elegant dining experience) to be sort of a Brown Derby parody almost...with all the signed photos on the walls from the famous toons that have helped shaped the studio. with crystal, silver...and nice linens.

But that might be too close to the original BD.

Here is some more of my blueskying...

The toon dining room (the Ink and Paint Club?) can still be sort of elegant...but in a toon way.

I think about toontown in DL, and how colorful and lopsided everything is.
But if we stayed with a more subdued color palette that matches that of the other dining room...but still had some fun toony features...

L:ike what about chairs that when they slide out, occasionally make cartoon sound effects?

or the table that has a dozing face inthe center of it, that comes to life when you are ready, and then proceeds to take your order. Or maybe it's the centerpiece on the table...that reminds you to use your napkin, when you reach for the salt and pepper.

Have some inanimate objects that have a "life" to them. I always think of everything sort of living when you are in Toontown...but it can still be done in a surprising way in an elegant place.

I nominate that Chrony be in charge of desinging the toon room if we go with Walt's Place.

I envision the upstairs being marble, and blue, and just elegant. I kind of have Walt's "Show" office for inspiration, it was featured in the last D23 issue.
