Good photo ops?

I'd like to do a lot of picture taking this trip, but not just the usual stuff. Anyone know any cool picture spots that would normally be overlooked? They don't necessarily have to be shots that would look good with people in them (though I'd like those too), just out of the way details that are unique to WDW.

Check your park guides, sometime spots are located throughout the parks as photo locations. Example being, at the AK their is a spot located between the tree of life and Africa for picture taking. The tree of life is the background. I tried it and the pictures were fantastic and no crowds!! Sometimes we will pose in front of a structure and use the crowd behind us as extras. Sunsets at WDW are special also. Catch a sunset as the background with your favorite ride or resort. Night time at WDW is awesome also, just click away. I like to take pictures of the landscaping, this gives me ideas for my home. I have several topiaries modeled from my recent trips, and have several hidden Mickeys around my place.

Simple rules for good picture taking at WDW are ones that apply a lot of places... Look up, look down, squat down, stand tall, etc. Unique angles can make for unique photos.

You can take the normal "head-on" pic of the partners statue in the hub with the castle behind it... or you can kneel down and look up at the statue to get a different angle on the castle and the sky behind it. :)

I really tried to concentrate on photography during my last trip. The most fun I had was in World Showcase. My favorite shots I took in Morocco. Also the pond in Japan, the ship in Norway, the hedge design in France...the list goes on. I loved taking photos of the Epcot fountains also. Try to take something at an odd angle instead of just straight on. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination, have fun!

Edit to add: Guess I'll post a few

I would say to go onto the picture of the day to get some ideas. I have been so impressed by the talent on there. It is the best thread here, IMO.:animwink:

Nice pics, Divine. I would have never thought to go in for a close-up of the fountain like that. I only take long shots of those. (Well, used to. I'm definitely going to be stealing that trick.)

As for interesting photo spots, sometimes the simple act of standing on a bench or, as another poster noted, squatting or kneeling, can give a standard picture some extra zing.

And to show you what a difference using a flash makes....here is an identical shot, but the flash was used.

So sometimes it's interesting to try something with flash and without from the same angle to see which you prefer. I ended up preferring the one without the flash in the end. I probably shot those a few hours before sundown, so that can make a difference too.

One day, I was bored, and I went and walked around World Showcase and my goal was to take one interesting shot at each pavilion. I ended up with a bunch of cool "artsy" shots that I wouldn't normally take. The details that Disney puts into their architecture are so beautiful that it's not hard to find pretty shots if you're looking for them.
Also, for fun pictures with people in them, I highly recommend posing with statues and mimicking the statues. It sounds lame, but it's pretty much our favorite Disney activity now that we've ridden everything a hundred times. Best photo op: the Buzz Lightyear statue outside of Once Upon a Toy at DTD. His right arm is positioned just perfectly so that if an average height female puts her arm around his shoulder and stands on that side, it looks like he's grabbing her butt. We didn't even notice it until we downloaded our pictures the first time, but now it's our absolute favorite. We now plan DTD trips just to take our picture with our favorite statue, who we have a special nickname for that can't be shared on these boards. :goodnevil

Cooleo, those are some great shots! The framing on the night time castle one is awesome. Where was that taken?

There is a little side path between the Ice Cream Parlor & the path that leads to the Bridge to Tomorrowland. The path is right before the Quick Service / Souvenir stand you see to the left in the photo. While waiting for Wishes, I just roamed around looking for different angles to take pics of Cindy's Castle & as I went by this area spotted the opening created by the stand on the left & the tree / light post on the right. Plus, I was able to use the Rose bushes to conceal the guests that were standing around waiting for wishes. If you look real good, you can see them through the roses. Here are a couple more I took while waiting for Wishes that night.
