Where can we get breakfasts and dinners besides DTD? I would love for a unique experience with good food that is also kid friendly (food for a picky 9 year old .... Chicken tenders must be available as a last resort). We need dinner for a few nights ... so the Pizza Hut explanation ....

As sad as it is, most of the Pizza Huts in Connecticut near me have closed. My kids love their pizza but quite frankly they failed because the service at all 3 locations was HORRIBLE. My kids haven't had Pizza Hut in probably 2 years and it would be a treat for them. There are 3 Pizza Hut locations in Orlando I think. Are there any that should be avoided or are better than normal?

And ya, a good place to have dinner with the kids would be nice. Are there any good places in Celebration, FL? And heck, is that area even worth going to?

honestly, there's about anything and everything you could ever want to eat in the Orlando area...even Pizza Hut! IHOP is always great for us. Golden Corral is $13 bucks a person vs the $35 you'd pay for a Disney buffet...and the food is good!

I don't even know which areas are considered Kissimmee, Celebration, Lake Buena Vista, Orlando, or whatever (all that matters to me is when I pass under the WDW arch lol), but seriously if you name it it's probably within 5-15 minutes of your resort/hotel depending on traffic :)

Celebration is mostly a big subdivision. The downtown area is not very big and really isn't anything spectacular. It's some boutique shops and a few restaurants.

Are you talking about going to eat at a Pizza Hut? Most of those are extinct. If you really want it your hotel should be able to give you the number for any stores that deliver there.

celebration is basically a big, pretty subdivision. they have a kind of small town area on 192, nothing worth writing home about. but there used to be a moe's burrito place there.

depending on where you're staying, you might want to look for pizza huts in kissimmee. i know there's at least one on 192 not too far from disney. i'm pretty sure there's one on 192 near the outback/red lobster... near that mini golf place with the big mountain. animal kingdom side of disney. there's an ihop over there too.

we call golden corral 'golden trough'. we ate there once when we lived in florida and never went back. is it cheap? yes. but it's a crappy buffet. same for cici's pizza. (we call that 'feces pizza'. sorry to anyone who likes golden corral or cici's pizza.)

depending on what you're hoping to spend, longhorn steakhouse is really good. on par price wise with outback, very yummy food. bahama breeze is overpriced in my opinion. if you're up towards where 192 meets 27, kissimmee/clermont, there's a chinese food place by publix that we loved - shanghai new york style chinese food. it was really good.

again, depending where you're staying it might not be *too* convenient, but steak and shake is a great, inexpensive, kid friendly meal. there's one down 192 in orlando and one on 27 in clermont; again, depending on where you'er staying neither may be very convenient but they have $5 meals, delicious shakes, and probably my third favorite chicken fingers ever.

where are you guys planning on staying?

I'll inform my wife of the recommendation for pizza.

Any other local places to consider?

Any good local ice cream or dessert places?

We're staying at Port Orleans riverside.
Will you have a car? When we drove down international drive we seen hundreds on food places, honestly everything you could imagine was there! Lots of choices!

I would recommend eating some food on site, there are some great counter service locations at port orleans and in the parks, big portions, enough even for 2 people to share sometimes. And by the time you factor in gas and time sometimes it makes sense to grab a meal on site :) that's is just my personal opinion tho, we hate to loose out on park time :)

If you're staying onsite, I find the pizza That WDW delivers to be on par with Pizza Hut (not meant to be a compliment).
I agree, I would grab a pizza at the resort and sit out and watch a movie before going off site!
We have no complaints about the pizza at port orleans.

We have a car.

I'm specifically trying to learn about good off site restaurants. We have a meal plan for the days we are in park. For the days out of park, I want to save money.

AM I reading this right. Cicis is a pizza place that uses a buffett model?

If so, I am sold!

Looking more. Do they really have that many locations? And which one is most convenient to the Port Orleans resort (near Epcot)?

Oh ...
I looked at the reviews. Seems like this is my best bet:
CiCi's Pizza
13605 S Apopka Vineland Rd
Orlando, FL 32821

Not bad. Only a 10 minute drive from the Port Orleans resort

There is a Pizza Hut on the corner of CR-535 and Palm Parkway, right outside DTD. It's passable for takeout or delivery, but the ambiance for dining in is nothing too special. Cici's is really about quantity, not quality. Despite the fact that the pizzas on the buffet appear to have different toppings, they all taste the same - like greasy cardboard. From PO, the Palm Pkwy location is easier to get to traffic-wise than the Apopka Vineland Rd location. Much tastier pizza can be had from Flippers, a local pizza chain at Crossroads. Steak 'n Shake has milkshakes and ice cream for cheap, but honestly Beaches and Cream at Beach Club or Ghirardelli at DTD are better product. Pretty much any chain fast food or casual dining restaurant you want can be found on the CR-535 corridor outside DTD or US-192 just outside Animal Kingdom. No real need to deal with going to I-Drive for the same stuff. Not a lot of unique or local joints in the tourist areas.

+1000. yes, it's a cheap buffet. but i think i'd rather eat almost anything from a place with a drive thru window. i'd much rather go to a pizza hut. really, just driving up and down 192 on the animal kingdom side of property will garner you many, many options - and some are kind of interesting. in addition to the chain places, there are some one off seafood, steak, and indian places if i remember correctly. most places are competitively priced because they're all trying to get guests off property to eat at their restaurants.

Giordano's is great; UNO Pizzeria at Crossroads, IHOP, and Olive Garden on Palm Parkway are places we usually frequent. I also enjoy Orlando Ale House.
