Carey Poppins - Nanny and Disney Enthusiest
Well all...I have some good happy news and some bad sad news. For work, I have to go to CA at the end of Jan and the conference is right across the street from Disney Land. I have never been to Disney Land so I am going to be spending a few days extra there. I'm excited about that. But b/c of this trip - I have to cancel my 10 day Yacht Club extravaganza in March. I just canceled my ressie and the ADR's and I feel sick to my stomach. I know there will be other trips. And i'm excited to see Disney Land. But i'm disappointed about having to cancel our March trip.

So now...time to plan a trip for Disney Land! What to do? What to see? I've never been!!

Disneyland is lots of fun, don't be too disappointed. I was out there for D23 this fall for the first time in almost 15 years, and it was great.

The cancelled trip sucks :( but Disneyland is very neat, especially for the first-timer accustomed to only WDW. There's a lot that's different, but a lot that's the same. You'll have a great time!

My first trip to a Disney theme park was Disneyland in 1985:D. I was 23 training as a Paramedic in LA. By the end of the day I swore that when I had children I would be taking them to disney when they were still young. I kept that promise.(we even lived in Orlando for 3 years)
I have not been back to Disneyland since, but I remember it fondly. The nice thing is that it is not a complete carbon copy of MK so you will find attractions that are different. Check out the pre show at the Pirates of the Carribean. Have a great time:)

We were there last summer and had a blast, totally recommend the Pirates ride and make a reservation to eat at Blue Bayoo which overlooks the Pirate ride, we enjoyed that.

Space Mtn is different and loved the Indiana Jones ride, went on it three times.

Have fun!

If you can, dine at the Blue Bayou, its in PotC! And, if you can, I'd stay at the Disney California Resort, that on e borders on and, has its own entrance to DCA!(I got married there:wave:)

Thank you for all the well wishes and advice! I have NO idea what is at Disney Land! I have a lot of prep to do! I love PofC - it is one of my fave rides! So preshow - and eat there - check, check! I wonder - is the restaurant a sit down place? Do I need an ADR! I have so much work to do!!! I'm clueless about the Land!

It's called Blue Bayou and yes it's a sit - down restaurant..it has a really neat atmosphere with the boats passing by as you sit "outside" in a courtyard? I think...I don't really remember if it's a courtyard...but it's dark - like San Angel Inn in Mexico in EPCOT with the false outside feeling....we had a really yummy dinner there. :)

You do need an ADR...it's one of the more popular places to eat.

The only thing I regret about our Disneyland trip is that I didn't look forward to it as much as I now know I should have. We had a wonderful time and want to go back!

If I remember right POTC is a much better and longer ride. Love the Blue bayou setting. You can watch the people in their boats go by while eating. Way better than San Angel and the cannons are firing while you eat. Its a small world is way better so is Peter Pans Flight much longer and better themed. The ride withe the mini buildings is fun as well and I think Toon town is the best. Looks like a toon town where WDW is uite boring really. you will have a great time. We are going there in June this next year. So much to do in California. La Brea Tar Pits. San Diego Zoo, universal. Knotts berry farm. By the way anyone gone there in a long time what is it like????It has been years..................

I Love Disney Land! You will see the Castle and want to laugh, it is very small. However, there are many rides that are the same but somewhat different, a lot of shops and overall it is just as much fun as WDW. I am jealous!

I got the chance to go to Disneyland and California Adventure in April and had a wonderful 3 days. Perfect weather and beautiful parks. The Matterhorn is a fun classic ride, Indiana Jones is great and of course the Pirates ride is wonderful. The single rider line for Midway Mania is a big plus. I like the upgrades to It's a Small World and you have to see the exterior (try to be outside at the top of the hour). I've always adored Disneyland's Fantasy Land. I cherish the Storybook Land Canal Boats, Alice in Wonderland and Mr. Toad, makes me remember being a little kid there. You don't walk your legs off like you do in Florida; you can easily walk from Disneyland to CA and Downtown Disney. Our hotel was close and the weather was nice, so we walked to the parks in the morning. There are loads of coming attractions at CA, so you will run into many construction walls, but they just made me want to go back once everything is open. :ROFLOL: The castle is cute and don't miss going downstairs inside. Sorry you have to put off your trip to Florida (so did I), but Disneyland has lots of that wonderful Disney magic; have lots of fun!!
