Golden Girls Question

I know the Golden Girls house used to be a part of the Backlot Tour, but back when DHS was a working studio, was the actual Golden Girls episodes taped there?

If not, what shows were?

I think that only the outer shell of the "Golden Girls" house and the house from "Too Close for Comfort," were the only things from those two series filmed at DHS.

I only remember one instance on the show where the actresses on the Golden Girls were filmed standing outside the facade at the Studios. They had to film it carefully, because if memory serves, the house was scaled down a bit and the landscape foreshortened to create the illusion that it was full size.

The show itself, with the studio audience, was filmed elsewhere (CA or NY?).

I believe the New Mickey Mouse Club was filmed at the Studios, and a few now-defunct game shows. Back when the soundstages were part of the tour, you could actually walk along a catwalk next to a big glass window and see a taping in progress down below (kind of like the views into the buildings on the TTA at MK, except you were walking).

Really? I don't remember that. Do you remember which episode or which season?

I have no idea, sorry.

Funny. When I rode the tour in 1990, I imagined what great movies and TV shows would eventually have their sets built there, and I couldn't wait to come back in a few years time, when the park was older and "broken in." Little did I know that Golden Girls and Ernest Saves Christmas would pretty much be the highlights of the backlot forever.

I think they wrapped production on the show in 91-92 so there couldn't have been more than a couple seasons of overlap, right? I would assume that the original exterior shot used in the credits, etc. was filmed in some actual residential neighborhood back in the early eighties and they just built one to match it when the studios opened. Is it known for certain that the facade at the park was ever actually used for anything more than tourist purposes?

IMDB has this to say:

Filming locations for "The Golden Girls" (1985)

Columbia/Sunset Gower Studios - 1438 N. Gower Street, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA (1985-1987)

Los Angeles, California, USA
Orlando, Florida, USA (exterior house scenes)

Ren-Mar Studios - 846 N. Cahuenga Blvd., Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA (studio 5)

So they did use it at least in part for the exterior scenes.

Lets Make A Deal was also taped there went and saw that once. The Golden girls house and the Empty nest house exteriors were said to be taped there but if I remember correctly those shows were well into distribution long before Disney MGM Studios were there. The show Thunder in paradise was shot there as well as the George of the Jungle movie or atleast some was. The set for George was on the backlot at the very end of residential street.
The so called catwalk above the Mickey Mouse Club set can still be seen today during the Star Wars Weekend. Last year the set was used for the merchandise to be sold so if you looked up above where you came in you could see the windows.

They had the facades for the houses. I was under the assumption that they were built for show and not necessarily the ones used for productions.

Disney-MGM opened in 1989. The Golden Girls started production in 1985.

Something just doesn't add up here. Unless they built the park around half a house out in the swamp. :lookaroun

According to IMDB, the real house is in Pacific Palisades, California. After using it for the first season, a replica was built on the studio lot (meaning starting in 1986). So the Backlot Tour house was most likely only ever a duplicate replica...
