Going to (gasp!) Universal or Sea World

I know, I know. Why?

Well, we're planning a weeklong trip to WDW for this fall. Last time
we went, we did Magical Express and stayed on-property. We hope
to do the same thing again.

So . . . given that, the kids are making some noises about wanting to
take a day at Sea World, or (ack!) Universal.

Any suggestions about the best/most cost effective way to do that?

Hopefully we'll be staying at Port Orleans riverside.

Take a cab? How much? I looked into renting a car last time we were down there . . .
and you can pick one up at the car center, but it's a two day minimum rental
(I suppose that would work if we wanted to go off-property for two days).
I recall it being pretty expensive to do that, we considered getting a car to
see a shuttle launch last time (launch was postponed making it a moot point.)

Just wondering how other Disney folks might plan something like this, on what day you might do it, etc.

I have been to both Sea World and Universal, but my kids haven't and they
are understandably curious. I'd just as soon stay on-property and inhale only Mickey air, but
sometimes a parent's gotta do what ya gotta do.

*hopes I can put it off until after Harry Potter opens*

Pumbas Nakasak

Heading for the great escape.
I go every trip, but I stay a few nights at Universal resort, and they do deals that inc 2 tickets. Isnt there a Mears bus type that goes to the other parks?

On a UK site its giving about $35 for a taxi to Universal /I drive area as an average price.

I enjoy going to Universal. I visited IoA for the first time earlier this year and it is a pretty spectacular park, however Universal is not a place I would plan an entire trip around. It's good for a day or two, but more than that and I would get bored, IMO.

I was sure I read about shuttle services to the other parks from Disney property! Can't tell you what they're like b/c I've never used them but I'm sure they exist!

*Edit* I just read this in the Unofficial Guide...

"If you are staying at Walt Disney World and don't have a car, Mears Transportation will shuttle you from your hotel to Universal and back for $16. Pickup and return times are at your convenience. To schedule a shuttle call 407-423-5566 or 800-407-4275."

If you want to go to Sea World, Route 50 of the Lynx Bus system has a stop at both the TTC and SeaWorld. Granted, you have to walk across the parking lot, but it's cheaper than a cab. Mears is probably your best bet for Universal, as it's a 2 hour trip using public transportation.

I think the kids should go at least once, there are nice attractions, but once should be enough. I bought a season pass and the rides got old fast but that first time they were pretty rad. So don't worry about going this time, it'll be good.

I guess I'm more interested in Sea World, have always enjoyed that, and they do have that nifty new MANTA coaster.

Something about being in The World for a week, though. Tough to leave property.

Thanks for your thoughts, folks, helpful stuff.:sohappy:
