Going Solo: Save Money or Splurge?

Well, since I am a moderate kind of gal, I'm currently booked at CBR in a king room.

To make a long story short, I'm waffling. If I move down to a value, I can easily save myself $500 ... which means, of course, more shopping

So, I guess I'm asking what would YOU do? Would you keep the money in your pocket, or splurge on your resort?

BONUS QUESTION: If you choose the value, which one? (Personally, I like the theming of Pop and the requested lakeview, but the new rooms at ASMu look great too ... more waffling!)

Thanks everyone ... much appreciated! :)

So, I think I will downgrade and give Pop another try (I really like the food court and Everything Pop). This way, I can have my solo trip and start saving for the Super-Duper Poly Trip in 2009 with DS! (Gotta take advantage of those child rates!)

I have heard that the 50's lakeview is quite nice. Does anyone know how far it is to the main building and bus?

Hey there again all, Sorry I was out with the family most of the day!!!! My last totally solo trip was for the grand opening of Mission:Space and it was just amazing!!! I went where i wanted, did what I wanted, danced around to Off Kilter, ate at Teppanyaki Grill, Stayed at Coronado, breakfasted at PO Riverside etc. I was just all over the map!!!!! Going solo in Disney for a young lady is not a problem at all. Certainly keep your wits about you and take normal precautions, but security is great and the CM's are just wonderful!!! Go to and do all of those things that other people dont enjoy or dont think are worth it but you have always wanted to do. Since you are downgrading on the resort, what about a Keys to the Kingdom Tour?? I have done this and it was AMAZING. Make it apoint to visit all of those shops, attractions etc that no one else wants to, check out the gossip phone on Main Street in MK. Catch all of the entertainment acts in EPCOT, Do the Animation academy in MGM and learn to draw ( trust me it works!!!!) Talk to all of the animal care CM's at the AK and learn so much more about the animals that live there. The world is your oyster, my darling, take advantage of it and enjoy it!!!! Belle

Since you have already decided to downgrade, perhaps you could use some of the saved money for some really cool dinners at some nice places to celebrate! There are so many nice restaurants (not sure what you like), but you could eat at Le Cellier, O'hana, California Grill, Brown Derby etc. to "celebrate!" Congratulations!

I had a couple of days to myself on my last trip (last month) and didn't mind it too much. I did miss having someone to "experience" things with. I wouldn't plan a solo trip so I'd be alone for a whole week but for a couple of days I went where I wanted and ate where I wanted. Different strokes for different folks! :)

Well, I did it! Booked at Pop (standard) and politely requested a top floor lakeview! And, saved $672!!! Plus, since my original deposit transferred over, I have in effect paid for 3 nights already!

Belle, thank you so much! Your post put me so much more at ease with my decision to go solo! So far, I plan to do the Around the World on a Segway Tour and DiveQuest (The Seas Aqua Tour this past March inspired me to get my open water certifcation). I certainly plan to do everything I couldn't do with my DS(6)! But, in all my trips, I have never heard of the Gossip Phone! What exactly, and where exactly on Main Street, is it?

KHockett, California Grill is on the top of my list once I hit my 180 days (October 1). Hoping to get ADRs during Wishes!

LudwigVonDrake, I am not so brave as to go for the whole 8 nights I am booked. I was advised by the CM at CRO to book for my longest "window" of time and once I have my flights, I will be going for 5-6 nights (and coming from Canada, you can take 2 of those days off just for travel -- it's at least 7 hours, not including ground transpo and airport waits).

I am going to miss my DS dearly, but he will be on spring break vacation with his dad (for the first time), and Disney sure beats the heck out of moping around at home (or I hope so anyway)!

Thanks again, everyone! I feel really good about by decision. No more waffling (well, except for those Mickey ones  ).

Hey there Suzanne!!!! I am glad!!! It really will be a very incredible trip for you!! AS far as the Gossip phone, Walk up Main Street, at the first intersection on your right turn into that store right there and ask for it. it is on the right hand wall, towards the back of the store!!!!! Those tours you have set up sound amazing!!! Also depending on your tastes, maybe schedule a massage for yourself at the Grand Floridian or Saratoga Springs. Now that is what I call treating myself well!!!!! Enjoy your trip and have a wonderful time, I know it will be great!!! Belle
