Go Deluxe & never go back?

Hi Everyone -

We had said that we would never stay at a Deluxe.... until we stayed at the Yacht Club.

We stayed at the YC Concierge Level (free upgrade!) for our honeymoon this July and it was out of this world. Previously, between the two of us, we had stayed at All Star Music, Pop, Port Orleans, and Caribbean Beach. I even used to think all of the people staying at deluxe resorts were out of their mind - paying three times the price and missing the wonderful amenities that $82/night gets you at ASMu.

Now I don't think we can ever go back to value or moderate resorts. Im still sticker shocked by the price of a deluxe resort vacation, but I think we'll just have to go to WDW less often.

Anyone else ever felt this way? Did you go back to the values and/or moderates? Were you just as happy as you used to be with them?

Eh, I'm going on two trips this year (one a couple of weeks ago, one 9/14 - 9/23) both in deluxe resorts, and I can't wait to get back to Pop in January! I love Pop Century, and after paying deluxe prices twice in one year, I'm ready to go back

However, I really don't stay in the hotel that much. I also don't use the balconies because I have a thing about bugs (the thing being that I hate them.) I stayed at WL this month because I was by myself and I wanted a hotel with interior corridors. Next month, my nephew and I will be at the Beach Club because we'll be spending lots of time at the pool. These were special circumstances, normally I'm at the parks all day, and the value rooms do just fine for those afternoon breaks for me.

I have. Just stinks to pay so much more.

So what are you saying, LilClerk? You think just because you are planning on staying at a Value resort on your next visit, that you aren't a Deluxe Resort Snob like the rest of us? C'mon, guy, who do you think you are fooling? You have had three trips to WDW in less than one year and two have been at Deluxes. Just admit you have a problem like the rest of us. It is Ok. We all understand and have been there. Just because you are going to stay at a Value on your next trip doesn't mean you are any better than the rest of us. Remember, acceptance is the first step toward recovery.

And as for your next trip?? Let's just see how that goes. Sure, I know you plan on Pop NOW but what's gonna happen when you call CRO to book your stay?? I know all too well. Undoubtedly, you are gonna get some sweet talker named Hyacinth or Mushu or Hercules. They are going to say they want to HELP you. They are going to chirp perkily that they WANT you to HAVE a GOOD time.

It will all start off innocently enough. "Oh, you just want something simple for the weekend, " they'll say, "just something to take the edge off since you have had such a tough time lately." "You want a Value, sure, I know just what you need, but you know, if you like the Values, you are gonna love a Deluxe." And with that she will find the crack in your armor. You will hear it resonate in your head....Deluxe....Deluxe...Deluxe.....

She will tell you about all the fun you will have and how good you will feel, trying to exploit your weakness. Oh, and one more thing, she has a special deal, just for YOU. Yeah, right! She's a pro, man. She knows what she is doing. She is an expert at stringing people out on her drug. And if you are any bit like the rest of us, and I know you are, you will cave. The allure is just too strong. It is in your veins. You want it...need it...must have it.

And don't fool yourself into thinking you will ever go past this. You can live with it for sure. We all know what it is like to cope with it on a daily basis. Some of us go for the domestic stuff, the homegrown, tried and true favorites like the Beach Club or the GF. Some of us like the wild, natural buzz you can get from WL. Some like to even get really wild and party hearty by mixing it up and trying a couple of different ones on one trip for a real fine time. Me? I got it bad. I have moved past all that on to the stuff from outside the country. That Polynesian stuff is mighty powerful. Once it gets a hold on you, there is no escape.

So yeah, keep telling yourself you are going to stay at Pop. We'll see what happens....

So, would I be considered a "Deluxe Dealer" if I'm trying to push my brother & SIL into a deluxe for our Dec trip?

I had him get prices on both, sent pics and vids of the mods, and then inundated them with pics, videos, testamonials & reviews, fact sheets, and my own 2 cents x 5,000 and then some about the wow factors of the deluxe resorts.

They're apprehensive about it, but I think I'm slowly hooking them. I already dragged in my parents- the ones who always refused to stay on property during our family vacations.

I think I have a problem. :lookaroun

NO, the Dealers are the ones that work for CRO. You just sound like a Deluxe junkie and an enabler. See? Feel better now?

Hmm... so it sounds like there's not a whole lot of Deluxe Resort Snobs who have been back to the values or moderates happily.

My bank account (and probably my husband) was really hoping everyone would say "The All Stars are still great, even after the Floridian!"

Oh well, I guess I'll join the dessert and cordials deluxe snobs party.

 Deluxe Snob reporting for duty.

Now I have stayed at Mod Dixie Landings the first two years (honeymoon 95 & 2000) Since 2005, we have stayed only 1 time in a MOD which was POFQ. I did enjoy that resort as its smaller and Disney transportation isn't bad.

We decided to take a trip this year in Dec. Only two MODS were available, CBR and CR. We booked CBR, but I couldn't sleep nights becasue of my decision. We had a lot of Epcot ADR and knew transportation would be a nightmare. However, I couldn't find any Epcot or AKL Deluxes available during our stay. Lucky, a 40% discount was released and could book Boardwalk. Now I have complained about the Boardwalk in the past as I didn' like the rooms. However, I figure that is better than CBR. I noticed the layout of POR, CBR and CR are all similar in layout but theme is different. That is just too large of a resort for me.

This is only my opinion and others may not agree. The only MOD I could stay at is POFQ. However, I have converted to Deluxe. Something Disney loves to hear.

We just returned from our first stay at a monorail deluxe (Poly) and we loved it but we had a major spider problem on our balcony (which they sprayed for right away but it didn't do any good, nature ya know?) So we really didn't get to utilize that and we do not like to read the paper on vacation. Having the monorail and a larger room was awesome and of course the whole theming of the entire resort is lovely but we have had more fun staying at Saratoga (we are DVC), Pop Century and Coronado Springs. We are a young, newly wed couple and the Deluxes have pool bars that close very early compared to the Moderates/Values. Personally we want to be where the fun is a little later in the evening so for us we would do Boardwalk or Beach Club if Deluxe but would be just as happy at Pop. Whenever we have stayed at Value we have always socialized with other people at the pool or pool bar after returning from the parks at night....it just seemed that not many do this at the Deluxes(at least during our last trip)....we stayed at Poly, AKL Kidani and BC over two weeks. We actually left AKL to go to BC because AKL did not suite us as a younger couple. It was very quiet and out of the way but lovely with an awesome view(staff was very friendly also). I guess it all depends on who you are and what u are looking for in a vacation :)

I'm going to say I'm a somewhat snob. I stat at deluxe resorts bc I can. If I could not, I would downgrade as needed. A trip to the World in a value is better than no trip at all. I am, however, a property snob. I'll stay in a value in July before staying off property.

Pioneering the Universe Within!
I freely and routinely jaunt between various levels or resorts, and it doesn't really bother me. For short, quick, "spur of the moment" trips, I'm more inclined to book a value, to keep the costs down. For my week-long trips (that occur twice a year- once in February, and once in the summer), I always book a moderate (either POFQ or CSR) or deluxe (working my way through them now- trying to eventually hit them all).

I guess I was just never bothered about the different levels of service between the resorts. I expect better service when I book a stay at the Boardwalk than when I stay at Pop. I'm certainly paying a lot more. Though, with that being said, I find the staff at Pop to be the most attentive and overall best of any resort, so go figure!

..I guess I would be a deluxe resort snob. Unfortunately I have to wait for a deal to come up and then I'll take advantage (did it with AKL and the Poly most recently) but other than that my price range dictates that the best I can do is a moderate.

With that being said - If you've got the dough to stay at the nicer places then more power to you.

I have to say this though - why in heaven would you skip WDW if you couldn't stay at a Deluxe resort? I get why you want to stay at a Deluxe Resort but I don't get why you wouldn't do WDW without one?

Another thing for the posters that are talking about staying at the deluxes for the transportation reasons.
If you're plopping down all that coin for the luxury of your bed at night. Drop another $125-150 for a week and get yourself a car!!??

Aside from the monorail (from a monorail resort) going to MK That's the BEST transportation option on property!

I think I pretty much agree with you. I haven't stayed at a Deluxe resort yet, but I don't think even if I had, I would really shy away from staying at the Pop Century. I really only use the resort as a place to sleep, possibly go back and rest for an hour or two, and possibly get something to eat. Pop Century really meets all my basic needs, I really only go on a vacation to Disney World for the parks and I don't care that much about the pool or many other amenities in the hotels.

My main reason for wanting to stay at a Deluxe resort is better access to the parks. I want to eventually stay at least once at one of the monorail resorts, preferably the Grand Floridian or the Polynesian, for fast access to the Magic Kingdom, and I think one of the EPCOT resorts would be really nice for the water taxi or walking distance to EPCOT and MGM. The AK Lodge would also be pretty nice for what it offers, but probably not as high on my list as the others. The bigger room is a nice plus, but since ideally I will only see the room for 8-9 hours a day, 6-7 of which I will be asleep, this really isn't as big a deal for me.

Even though I've heard good things about some of them, I really don't see the point of going with a Moderate. They really don't seem to offer better access, and as I've already stated, my main use of the resort is basically a place to go for the short time I won't be in the parks or on some other part of the property, or possibly at Universal.

We've only stayed at a few DVC's and moderate (only Coronado). If we can't do a Deluxe, for whatever reason, we'll always fall back to Coronado Springs. It's one of our favorite resorts. I could never talk my wife into a value.

We went Deluxe back in 2002 and never went back! Yacht Club was first and now we pretty exclusively stay at an Epcot Deluxe with some type of major discount. No interest in a Value. Would consider a Moderate.

Hi, my name is Rick and I am a deluxe resort snob...

I'd like to offer that the CSR has been pacifying my urges for almost 10 years now on an addiction to the Contemporary and poly that my GD parents  started when i was just child (they have no soul). However, my chosen profession as an adult just doesn't allow me to stay for 10 days (yes i need 10 days :lookaroun) in a deluxe at this time. CSR has many deluxe amenities and a decor that rivals any resort in wdw. I use value season and deep discounts to feed my habit and keep it from affecting my day to day functioning. However, I will leave you with this warning for those who think they can just keeping "using" value resorts and "get by"...

Value resorts are a gateway drug!!! :dazzle:

you've been warned.

OK- I think I would have had to demand a new room. Not that TX is spider free, but those years I lived in FL did not exactly help my fear of spiders. Hmmmm- Poly and CR are tops on my list for our next trip...I wonder how often the CMs at check in get a request for a spider free balcony.:lol:

Honestly we stay at what we an afford that year. We have stayed mostly at the moderates, a few times at Deluxe and once at a value. We have loved them all and to us it's just being at WDW and we can deal with the rest. The DWF and I feel as long as were together and have a nice clean room with a pool to swim in and the deluxe dinning plan we are good to go. After that it really doesn't matter. A WDW vacation is what you make of it. I still believe the whole experience is to get away, relax and take in everything there is to see and do and let yourself feel like a kid again.

I have stayed at all the values and they were fine. But after stays at Poly and WL the "lowest" I'd go back to is POFQ but I will say that I am tempted to stay at the Animation resort when it opens because the theming does appeal to me but I'll never go back to the values.

We stayed at four different Deluxes before the economy hit our family. We've since either stayed at a Moderate as a family or a Value with just two of us. Given a return of a good economy, we'd probably stay in two rooms at a Moderate rather than one room at a Deluxe. Deluxes don't have food courts, and we appreciate the convenience of food courts.
