GMR: Classic or Not?

We must be one of the few but we've been 5 times, and road it the first two times we went and haven't since. My DW and I don't enjoy it that much.

I'm with you. Its ok, but feels kind of lame although for the most part, most of the studios is like that for me. Only TOT and RRNRC really do it for me....oh and the brown derby too!

Definitely a classic! Although I saw someone mention the removal of Alien, which would sadden me greatly. I want to be aboard the Nostromo with Sigourney Weaver. Screw Star Wars, it has its own ride.

Classic, but like mentioned above it needs a big bit of TLC. I rode it last October not knowing what state it`d be in but was pleasently surprised. The AAs though are on the whole embarrassing, considering the subjects. They look and act so old, then the Witch pops up - the prototype A-100 figure - and they really look dated. It was nice to see in the gangster scene all the visuals, from the car to the traffic light to all the gunshot squibs working perfectly. The Alien scene though.... it still has so much potential but has been dimbed down to the point of being a joke.

Classic! I love GMR but would like to see some upgrades on AAs like everyone else has mentioned. Tarzan could be replaced by something else. I would consider switching out Alien with Aliens! Have Ripley in the Power Loader, add the Alien queen.

It's certainly a classic... but it definitely needs updating...

On the other hand... If we would put in some new scenes from popular movies, it wouldn't be a classic anymore... Right???

But the use of some new techniques wouldn't harm it... :lookaroun

While I agree to some point that Star Wars may not need to be included in GMR because it already has Star Tours, how cool would it be to see Anakin and Obi-Wan battling from Episode III or Luke and Darth Vader from Episode VI battling in the new death star with lightsabers? You could use some of the new A-100 animatronics, as well as a technique similar to the sword fighting pirates at PotC at DLRP...

I dunno...IMO it'd be cool...

It's a great attraction; though I wish they would gut the Fantasmic! scene and put in a current movie. It would be hilarious if they used The Graduate scene.

I think it was meant to be a classic in the way that PotC and HM are, and it was when it first opened, but now I think it's more of a Jungle Cruise kind of classic. You can't imagine that park without it, the experience depends on the tour guide and the effects have become a bit dated (o.k. maybe not as much as JC). I just want to see new AAs really, and keep most of the scenes. Perhaps Gigi instead of Footlight Parade and Forbidden Planet instead of Alien (just thinking of some more MGM titles) but don't change it too much. A HM like refurb would be best.

And yes Star Wars has it's own ride, it doesn't need a scene in this one.

Is the Wicked Witch the only audio-animatronic of her kind? She moves so convincingly and I always wondered why all of the AAs don't move like that.

As mentioned she was the first, along with one of the pirate captains in POTC, then Jack Sparrow, and now several AA's in the refurbished Spaceship Earth are A100's and very very well done

Classic, hands down...at least as classic as Studios can be. What would the park be like without it???

I would like to see it kept up, versus updated. There are so many elements that aren't in top notch shape; lighting especially. It's such a well planned and beautiful attraction! I think that it's also quite costly to run, between elements and cast members, and unfortunately doesn't put up the numbers of ToT or similar. And it's hidden behind a very large blue obstacle. :dazzle: I have some stellar photos of scenes that I'll post in my album...

And it's hidden behind a very large blue obstacle.

This, actually, is currently the biggest problem facing The Great Movie Ride. I don't want to see a big dopey (or Mickey) hat when I walk down Hollywood Boulevard, I want to see the best attraction in the Park. If that means redoing the facade of GMR, then so be it. Better a different facade that fits in with the 30s look of the area than a Chinese Theater blocked by an ugly, cartoony pin station.

Hell yes, its a classic. One of my most favourite rides. And I agree with what someone else said, it reminds me of going to MGM as a kid. But yes, it is in a DIRE need of a good rehab like HM and POTC got ( but please not like SSE ). I don't what all the speculation is about the Alien scene being changed, because if they change a scene, I hope its the Tarzan scene. As well as getting all of the footlight parade props working.

Heading for the great escape.
Needs a major rehab, not sure if the "live action" elements fit well with todays more media savvy and demanding audiences. Certainly the anamatronics look like they were from the actual films themselves they're so antiquated. We visit every trip but that says more about the lack of attractions in the Studios than the popularity of GMR
