Globe Barge Malfunctioning?

I think that a GH54RT module didn't send the HK signal via the mansard relays. This in turn cause the widget to stop the watchamacallit from engaging the doohickey. When this happens the acme igniter's inside of the barge do not work as they are supposed to - thus the barge does not open, and no fireworks are launched from it. Unfortunately this seems to be happening more and more recently. I heard that WDW ordered replacement parts but they were delayed coming out of Timbuktu.

It's always UPS's fault. They make the BEST scapegoat.

Look at it this way - at least they didn't shoot off the fireworks with the globe closed, possibly causing damage :)
If you look at the globe in the daytime, you'll notice that it's not a full globe, the top is sliced off somewhere in north Alaska. So they can launch the fireworks through a closed globe, although I assume the central tower does need to raise.

I always thought that hole was just themed to represent the ozone layer... :lookaroun

I was there Sat night and the globe was being stored near Africa on the lake side of the bridge it usually travels under. It was weird to see it in that location since they usually keep it back stage and open the bridge so that it can go out to the center of the lake. Not sure how this relates. Just found it odd.

Yes thats true, but that is for engineering design reasons for six giant, extremely heavy petals to open and close successfully many times. There would be quite a bit of damage if the pyro launched with the globe closed.

Completely untrue I have seen it happen like I said it looks like a volcano. No damage to the earth and for people that haven't seen it before they would just assume it was part of the show. I only heard a couple of people near us mention the fact that it hadn't opened so it didn't spoil it for people.

I never said it hasn't happened, its just not SUPPOSED to happen. The hole in the top of the the globe is in fact for engineering reasons. It provides a better fit, its less weight, and more cost effective.

and who really cares about the north pole anyway? The last thing I want to think about in Florida is ice...and if I want to see a polar bear, I can ride Maelstrom. Errr...it's closed...guess not.

Was this during park hours? The barge is always stored in a berth adjacent to the American Gardens Theater.

I can't believe that I am just the first to say this -- BUT WHO CARES? Isn't the stupid mini-ball thing something that wastes about 12 minutes between the good fireworks and the better fireworks cause they didn't want to spend more money on fireworks in the middle.

I've been told many times that something deep and emotional happens, but ever since they took out the Bad News Bears, I have no interest in much else from this show but the fireworks. Most the countries don't even light up anymore. Too many negative thoughts on how people find Illuminiations sacred.... must contain myself.....

If the globe was not being used as a money saver(which it is not), the price tag of the show would more than triple.

I totally know, the globe is boring filler though.... just wishing they did something more creative and than a circular video screen that you can't even see, and a bonfire that's at least a football field away from it's closest viewer (no I don't know the actual size of the lake).

I agree the storyline could do with enhancing during at least some of the globe sections... though it tells a story the average guest may not get it and find it boring. More laser programming perhaps (and lasers you can see) - the countries are out at this point in the storyline, for a reason I know but still a wasted opportunity for such a great show, especially when compared to the entire `pavilion chase` sequence from 1988 as mentioned above.

The arial shot has it as 475 feet at the closest. But you have to admit, if you watch the fire part closely, most of the fireballs that are emitted are synchronized to the music. But I wish that they would make it (the globe sequence) much cooler.
