Relax, I'm not trying to be creepy (heh, don't need to try). I just noticed on allearsnet.com that when it comes to meals, it used to be that anyone younger 12 could eat at kid's prices. Now it's anyone younger than 10.

Which means that parents of 10 and 11 year olds no longer have that window to say "Well, at least I can save a few bucks on meals for my kid."

On the plus side, if you have a kid than can really shovel food down his or her pie hole, take him or her to a buffet meal and make WDW lose money!

actually

Tokyo Disney the cutoff is 8, well at least at the restuarant off Pirates of the Caribbean. They do the trick of asking the child, as soon as the waitress comes, how old they are. I find the method a bit tasteless. Yeah, it makes it look as though they are making small talk with your child, but it's actually more about making sure your kid eats off the 20+ dollar menu instead of the 10 to 15.

I was somewhere recently, and I observed them doing that. That way, you know the kid won't lie (even if you tell him or her). I'm 21, and at counter service, I still order off of a kids menu sometimes. If it's a sit down, I usually split with someone....the portions are so big! And there's only so much I can eat.

This is the one thing about WDW that truly ticks me off. I have a teenaged daughter who weighs a whopping 96lbs (she is a cheerleader). She does not finish a kids meal, much less an adult meal. They need to make a seperate price tier for teenagers.

Four years ago I would not have been happy to have to purchase an adult meal for my child for a Candlelight Processional dinner package.

On the other hand, I'm sure parents of teenage boys get their monies worth on an adult meal!!

stop in the name of glut

there are plenty of options on each menu at disney. the portions are large, so why not split a meal? do the food & wine festival thing and order a few things and share with everyone.

you can always let the waiter/waitress know that your child won't eat as much as an adult, so you would like an extra plate so they can try food from everyone else at the table. that means less money for disney and a lower tip for the waiter/waitress. i don't know of a better way to change things in this country than voting with your dollars.

and as far as eating (or being fed) too much at disney, you can always moderate your diet the old fashioned way: :hurl:

Usually wdw will let anybody order off the kids meal. the last time
I was there (im 17, turning 18 soon) I ordered of the kids meal. I dont remember what I got and they didnt ask me anything. A kids meal will fill me up and make me feel good so you can always try. All they can say is no. They wont kick you out of the park.

It's not just teenagers. I hate the large portions you get - everywhere! I'm 28 and 113lbs. I am always arguing with servers that I don't want the full sized meal because it's just a massive waste of money and food. Most places will bow in and let you get the kids portion. Which sometimes is still too much for me. I'm just a very small woman who can't eat any quantity in one sitting. It doesn't help that I have stomach/digestive problems either.

I'll never be able to do any kind of buffet at WDW because it's just not worth it for me. Which stinks. But they don't ever give you a hard time if you order a kid's item at Quick Service. How do they know you don't have a kid waiting at the table for you?

I hate when they don't want to let you order off the kids menu. We were at Outback on day and I ordered the chicken tenders off the kids menu, no problem. Well, it turns out they charge you if you are not a "kid". It was no big deal, like $2 but they didn't tell us. Yeah, I know, $2, but it's the principal of it, just tell us. At least Disney doesn't do that.

I know what you mean. I'm 28 years old and could eat 3 adult meals if I let myself. On the other hand, my wife is 26 and only weighs about 94lbs! She also has trouble finishing her meals.

At least in our case, we can each order our adult meals and I'll finish what she doesn't eat...

Good thing I keep active, or else I'd weigh a billion pounds myself!!

I agree. But......
When I was growing up, I could safely ride my bick around several blocks away and such (at age 6). But....now a days....parents wont let their kids get out of eye sight. For good reason.

Sadly....it just isnt as easy for kids to go out and play anymore.

I agree! Times have changed for the worse. We would leave first thing in the morning and as long as we were home by dark, no one worried. And you never heard about abductions or anything. It is very sad that children today can not enjoy that sort of freedom.

Ordering from walkup service has never been a problem - sometimes we just share an adult meal.

My gripe is with the dinner packages. Your talking $35.00 per person for (ex.) Candlelight dinner package. Your talking $105 (3 adults) plus tax vs. $82.00 (2 adults & one child) plus tax. Yikes.

I'm sure the disney dining plan at $35.00 a day won't include the Candlelight package.

Other than that I will TRY to order her a kids meal OR just split an adult one with her - whatever she wants to do.

My main gripe was the Candlelight.......................

who

i think things are relatively the same as they've always been, if not safer.

it's just that the local news (which seems to be the same everywhere) scares everyone in to thinking that there are evil people everywhere looking to rip you off, invade your home, and steal your children.

today, every kid has a cell phone. it takes a matter of seconds for any parent to locate their child and vice versa. that was not the case even ten years ago.

As far as kids meals go at WDW, anyone can order them and I have never known anyone to have a problem. I have one friend that is in her 20s, is very lightweight and only ever orders kids meals. One day that she was at the Disney Parks, ate a kids meal and a Mickey Premium Ice Cream bar and had that be enough that she didn't need dinner.

I agree!! I did a paper for my college english class that showed crime rates dropping consistently for the past 10 years or more, while news coverage has shot up insanely! It makes people panicky, and I don't think we really need any help in that department ;)

And as for kids' portions...I try my darndest to eat kids meals everywhere! I prefer to eat only when I'm hungry, and when I'm full...stop. Amazing, ain't it? ;) I had a server at Italy in Epcot insist that I wasn't allowed to eat off the kid's menu, but that's the only place I ever had a problem.

just not fair.

Yea, I just griped about this in my own thread when they hit me with this change in policy last Friday night at Cinderella's dinner at the Grand Floridian.

I noted how this is how they are covering the costs of allowing annual passport holders to get the Disney Dining Experience discount. I don't think it's very fair that we now pay more with the discount than we did if we didn't have the discount...just so others can get the discount...they basically to it away from us and gave it to someone else. All I know is that I will have no problem with passing my daughter off as 9 for a few years.

Then on top of that, when we made the reservations, she (at 11) was still considered a child and I was quoted children's pricing for the reservations, only to have that changed upon arrival.
