Girl question

Apologies in advance for this very girlie question. We are travelling with 2 teenage daughters who cannot live without straightening their hair. From experience I know my UK ones do not work with an adaptor, so my question is when we get to Orlando where can I get a decent set quickly without eating up precious hours searching for them (my DH would not tolerate this:brick: ). And do you have any brands to recommend?
Thanks in advance for any info.

To save time, why don't you order a set from the USA now and have it delivered to your home. Then you can pack them and you won't have to go hunting for them when you get to Orlando. Just search the internet for them.

That's probably the easiest thing to do. No wasted Orlando time =)
I just don't know which shops you could order from. I know Walmart and Target don't ship internationally.

Just to explain what will and wont work in the USA (from the UK).

You need 2 things for a UK appliance to work in the USA.

1. The physical plug is different, so you need a physical adaptor. This will convert the UK 3 pin plug to a US 2 pin plug.

2. The electrical characteristics of the appliance must be correct. If on the bottom of the appliance it says 100v-240v 50/60Hz, that is fine. It will work in both countries. If it just says 230v or 240v, it will not work in the USA without a much more sophisticated adaptor. The regular physical adpators only convert the different physical plug shape, NOT the electrical current.

Hope that explains why some of your electronics work in the US, and some dont.

I must say that you are a VERY smart Mom!!! I have a teenage daughter too that must use one of these everyday or else no one is happy! Walmart & Target both have them. I am not sure but you may be able to order one online and have it delivered to your resort. I would give it a try anyway. It may save you some time. Has anyone ever tried this?

Well, to that end, maybe you could order the iron in advance on the internet and have it delivered directly to the resort. I'd call Guest Services for your resort and see if they'd accept such a package, but I know many people will pre-package clothes and other things they'll need for the trip and have it delivered, in advance, to their resort so they can travel with less. Just make sure that the package has your name on it, maybe your reservation number, and call agead to confirm it is there and waiting for you...

Now, if Guest Services won't accept a package addressed to you from an internet company like target/amazon/walmart, then another thought might be a supermarket that delivers. There are stores that will deliver groceries, for a fee, to Disney resorts, and many supermarkers in the USA will have a small selection of small electrical appliances, like hair dryers and irons and alarm clocks and portable CD players. If you intended to buy any groceries anyway, this might be an option...

Thanks for the advice everyone - I think I will order them a few days before we leave and have them delivered to the resort so that they are there when we arrive.
This will make happy girls=happy hubby not having to drive around looking for hair products(he is follicly challenged and therefore doesn't understand!) and I will be one happy mum just by not getting grief from teens and grumpy dad.
Winners all round!

I took my straighteners last November, (they are made by GHD) and they worked fine with a normal adaptor. They are quite expensive though, about £100.

I have not had much luck with hairdryers in the past. As someone already mentioned, they are very weak, and I (and my 2 dds) have quite thick hair that takes a long time to dry. I bought a travel hairdryer from Tesco, and you can change the voltage on it, so it can be used in Europe and America. It worked really well. It was made by Nicky Clark.
