Next week will be my 5th trip to Disneyworld and I've never been on Splash mountain! So this time I'm going to but I've heard you get rather wet so I'm going prepared. Just wondered what other rides in DW get you really wet?

Kali River Rapids in Animal Kingdom.
It was as if I jumped in the deep end of a swimming pool with my clothes on. HAIR AND EVERYTHING - SOAKED THROUGH. But my husband sitting next to me was dry as can be.

Yes you can get wet on Splash mountain but not as wet as the rapids in Animal Kingdom--so don`t wear your best footwear. We usually try to do that ride at the end of the day before we are leaving the park!!
I guess we`ve never minded too much as we go in the summer when it is hot so the water is quite cooling; however you must get cold if the weather is cold!! Is it ever that cold in WDW??

About 25 degrees with the wind chill (yes - I just said WIND CHILL) our first 2 days when we went this past December.

Splash Mountain and Kali River Rapids are the only two rides i can think of that you stand to get REALLY wet on.
Kali is a "luck of the draw" type of ride. The part where you'll get the wettest happens at the bottom of the drop. If you go down backwards and your side of the boat lands in the water first, you're pretty much getting soaked with no way out (i've yet to come out of this unscathed when falling down backwards). Otherwise, it's sort of a gamble. I've come out of the ride both drenched and only slightly splattered after riding a bunch of times. If you get wet, even a poncho won't help you much on this ride. A quick tip- i'd suggest lifting your feet off the floor of the boat and resting them on the bar about a foot off the floor. It might help your shoes from getting TOO wet since the water can flood the floor of the boat. Just note that it's highly likely that you'll get wet on this ride and won't be able to do anything about it. Might want to prepare for that (maybe with a change of clothes). You might want to ride this one near the end of the day so you aren't miserable walking around. Fair warning.
Splash Mountain i've learned to actually somewhat control how wet i'll get. If you want the full soaking experience, ride in the front of the boat. If you want to remain as dry as possible, ask the cast member to ride in the back. I came out fairly dry, just slightly damp. If you wear a poncho AND ride in the back, you stand a good chance to come out completely dry. They've made it a lot easier to control your ride experience in the recent years too, they recently toned down a bit of the backsplash caused by the big drop so the water doesn't pour over passing logs before they even get to a drop themselves. No more cheap dumping of water on your head anymore, which i find an improvement.
Other water rides like Pirates of the Caribbean or Maelstrom will only possibly spray you a little. Nothing that you wouldn't get anyways if a few drops of rain fell on you. You might not even get wet at all. Don't bother worrying about these or preparing for them. Their drops are relatively small (especially Pirates which is absolutely tiny) and don't contain any real splashing.
I'd invest in a poncho for Splash and Kali (and any potential downpours from rain which can happen suddenly). They sell them at the parks or you can buy your own elsewhere if you find them cheaper. I keep mine folded up in my back pocket at all times just in case. It can start to rain suddenly too (sometimes very violently).

I rode Kali River Rapids but came prepared...wore Crocs sandals (they're light as a feather to carry in a string backpack) and a disposable poncho.
I brought other clothes and shoes in my waterproof backpack. No one else in the family wanted to go that far - I was the one who got soaked and it was a scorcher of a day in July so I didn't care!

Amen to that! We went on once in November and once last month... everyone on the raft came out DRENCHED both times! So much fun though!! :sohappy:

One I would add is the Backlot Tour. A few weeks ago I unknowingly stood in front of one of the special effects cannons and got drenched. Also, in Catastraphe Canyone we got very wet as well, which I've never gotten that wet on the ride before.
Last time I was on Universe of Energy, as we were rounding the Northwest corner of the building I got soaked out of nowhere. I don't know if this is a new feature, or if someone was playing a prank, but the water came from above and there was nothing but black walls in the area. It doesnt make sense to me for water to be splashed in an area with nothing around. Never could figure it out, but I did get to sit on the ride for 20 minutes with a soaked shirt!

Yes Merlin---it`s all the luck of the draw! I`ve often got a bit wet on Splash, but nothing to spoil a day!! But as you say about Kali--I got drenched and my husband was bone dry!! It`s a lottery. many guests wear their ponchos.

Same here... that's the one ride we all laugh crazy loud on that one. Seriously how can you not laugh watching your mother or sister getting a wave of icy cold water washed over them?! :ROFLOL:

Last time I rode Kali River Rapids in Animal Kingdom, no one in my raft, with the exception of my boyfriend and I, seemed to realize that there is a storage compartment in the middle...so if you do go on make sure to lift up the plastic in the very middle of the raft and put anything you do not want to get wet in there..just make sure its closed tight!

It was an unseasonably warm Thanksgiving, this past year on our trip. The water cannons that fire water into the air when the boat drops were turned on full blast.
So, to agree with most, I did not get wet AT ALL from the Drop. HOWEVER, I got drenched to the bone from the water cannons and those wet me during the ride, long before the drop.
Here is what I do on both Splash and Kali. Buy a Poncho (this is if you are wearing shorts). When you get on either ride, make sure the poncho is all buttoned up and you MUST make sure you are sitting on the poncho. Wear the hood and whenever water is imminent, duck. You will get very slightly wet, mostly on the sleeves of your shirt where water still can seep through, and your socks and shoes. Other than that, you should be solid. Have fun!
