Getting really worried, but...

I recently found out that there might be a hurricane coming in the day I leave for WDW, and right now, I'm really worried it'll be a very good chance it could cancel our flight there. And it's a very rare thing for me to go for 10 DAYS. I'm just really worried and I can't get it off my mind.

OK, you got me a little worried, because I live here and didn't check weather yesterday or today yet.

But I looked and I didn't see anything indicating a hurricane headed for Florida at all, much less on a specific date. They're watching storms, like they do all the time, but nothing conclusive came up.

Channel 6 didn't have anything, either.

Where are you seeing a confirmed hurricane hitting Florida or confirmed timeline?

I may need a new weather app. I'm using the Weather Channel one.

I don't see anything confirmed either. The closest I've seen is Weatherunderground ensemble models and predicted track for 94L which shows it tracking into Central Florida. But way too early and inaccurate at this point. NOAA won't release tracks until it develops more and it will be days to a week before any predictions get firmed up.

1. AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE IS LOCATED ABOUT 1000 MILES EAST OF THE
LESSER ANTILLES. WHILE SATELLITE IMAGERY AND BUOY OBSERVATIONS
INDICATE THAT THE CIRCULATION HAS BECOME BETTER DEFINED OVER THE
PAST FEW HOURS...SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY REMAINS LIMITED.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS REMAIN CONDUCIVE FOR A TROPICAL DEPRESSION
TO FORM DURING THE NEXT DAY OR SO AS THIS LOW MOVES WESTWARD AT 20
TO 25 MPH. THIS SYSTEM HAS A HIGH CHANCE...80 PERCENT...OF BECOMING
A TROPICAL CYCLONE DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS. THIS SYSTEM COULD
REACH THE LESSER ANTILLES BY WEDNESDAY AND INTERESTS IN THAT AREA
SHOULD MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF THIS DISTURBANCE.
This is looking to reach the Lesser Antilles by this weekend according to the Weather Channel. If it keeps the current course. Still lots of unknowns but the one I mentioned above looks like it could affect the US. Again. Way too early to sound the alarms but think they one needs to be monitored.

I imagine that the concern is over Tropical Depression no 9. This is it's current forcast cone. While I am not a meterologist, living in South Florida we all have become amateur meterologists. Hurricane threats are a part of life down here. First off I want to say don't stress it because these forecasts have the shelf life of milk in the sun. This will change. This forecast cone will change a dozen times before it becomes a threat, if it even becomes a threat. As someone else said, flights don't get affected unless it hits during your flight window. The airports will be open right up until weather conditions begin to deteriorate. Right now it is not expected to become a major hurricane (111mph winds). Also it would have to cross eastern or central Cuba which is a mountainous area. This will weaken it if it does become a threat. Also any shift to the north or east will bring it over Hispañola which is even more mountainous than Cuba and will cause even more weakening. Unfortunately we are entering the peak of the Hurricane Season. For right now monitor it. Contact your airline and the your hotel and find out what how they handle this so you know what to do.

we dealt with this when hurricane irene was going to be hitting us here in Phila the day we were scheduled to fly to disney.
if indeed this weather event does develop such that it'll be hitting florida on your day, keep watching the airline's website. we went us air and their website kept updating which flights had free rescheduling privileges. they leave a decent window for this, both day before and day of predicted event, so odds are you can get out a day before.
disney also has discounts for folks whose plans gets changed by the hurricane. when i called at the last minute to book a separate room (our hotel was full and we had to be elsewhere the first extra night) and mentioned to the CM in passing that it was to beat the hurricane, he gave us the significantly discounted rate for the night, and told me about weather discounts.
also remember, as previous poster said, they try really hard to avoid canceling flights due to the cascading effect. they will fly way out of their way to go around the hurricane but still get to destination. we actually flew from philadelphia to florida by way of Ohio. no extra stops, just made a really big loop to skirt the edge of the hurricane that stood between me and my vacation!

Oh, ok. That sounds really cool and a nice idea. :)

We fly out on Sat., August 25th, but from a different part of the country.
I am hoping that if it becomes a hurricane, it will miss Orlando.
I know to expect rain, but I just pray that there are no heavy storms or strong winds.
I am watching The Weather Channel very closely.
I guess we will see where it is going in the next couple of days.
