do you think that disney will ever allow geocaching at the world or even make geocaches themselves to put in the world. Also this whole disney night night kingdom thing does seem very possible to me with the whole interactive harry potter land so do you think if they did this night kingdom they might even incorporate geocaching into that. If you do not know what geocaching is go to www.geocaching.com

Please explain what this is. The link is not working. Please take the time to explain a new term that you are throwing our there. I'm sure that most of the forum is as clueless as we are. It's the polite thing to do.

I'm not sure what it means, either. My guess would be that it's a time capsule kind of thing.

I am sure that there are details I'd mess up, so I'll just give the big picture answer on geocaching: it's a 'game' whereby people give hints and GPS coordinates for something they have hidden (hints/locations are posted on a website). Then, other people look for them. I think there is also something like you can take what's in there and leave something that you want to leave, etc.. That's the detail part I'm not sure about...

I don't think so. It would involve people leaving objects around the park which I imagine would be cleaned up by maintenance. If there were Disney controlled caches, then that argument would be moot but then what do you replace the object you took with? Not something of your own, certainly.
Also, all those people walking around staring at their GPSs and running into people or venturing into non-guest areas... it would make any major theme park who considers themselves a target for terrorists very concerned.
Lots of local police in my area frown on geocaching... I can only imagine the "Disney Police" would too.

The link works fine for me, but here it is again just for another try:

http://www.geocaching.com/

and the wiki entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geocaching

Basically, yes it is a game using GPS to find "treasures", they are usually very small items left in some form of box or enclosed area. The coordinates are given along with some clues to help find it.

BUT.......you don't always have to leave something. And this could be done at Disney. A set of coordinates and a handful of clues could be given about a particular location and all the searching party would have to do is get a picture. This does take a little of the fun out of it, but all the log books and what not could be kept online once a person has proven that they actually did find it.

It's actually a really fun game, I do it when I go out hiking or camping all the time and there are also entire groups dedicated to urban 'caching also. It's not always as simple as it seems.

Unless Disney were to do something similar to the marathons and set some up temporarily for the event, it's not going to happen. There are benchmarks in the parks you can look for with your gps. I know it's not as exciting as a cache, but it's something.

There are one or two Virtual Geocaches in each of the parks now. There are a few actual geocaches in celebration. That are worth the time to find. Disney does know about geocaching.

A virtual Geocache is a place that the creator of the geocache wants to take you to ,or show you something.

A Geocache is a hidden container that has been placed in a location for you to find. They are hidden from plain sight or camouflaged. They might have small trinkets inside them. Rules are if you see something you like take it. But make sure you replace it with something of your own to always have something for others to take.

I dont think we will see any actual hidden containers in the parks. Unless they are controled by Disney themselves. I just dont see it happening after what took place at Disneyland.

There was one in Disneyland about 5 years ago. the name of the geochche was "Phone Home". It was found by a landscaper before park opening and reported to his/her supervisor. Disney had no idea that the geocache had been placed in the park. Long story short, they thought it was a bomb and called the bomb squad in to retrieve the geocache. Turns out one of the police officers dispatched to the scene was a geocacher and knew what they had found. But the Disney took no chances and had the Bomb squad remove it anyway. Tomorrowland's opening was delayed for an hour or two that day.

Geocaching is a lot of fun. I just wish I could find friends who want to go out and find them.

yes sorry it took me so long to reply but everyone who has tried to describe geocaching so far has done an extremely good job and like someone said earlier you dont always have to leave something especially if it is very small you could just sign the log book and be on your way. also like i said in the original post if this so called night kingdom does happen do you think disney could incorporate this, it is a very popular "sport" and i think that if disney would place the caches or sponsor the caches then this would work, especially at an after hours party such as the P&P party.
like others said i doubt this would work in the parks during regular hours but perhaps others places on disney grounds and after hours
