I remember around the time the book of boba fett came out reading something on screen rant about the reason being Disney thought the name was offensive for some reason!
Yea that's the same thing I had seen. I don't think it was ever actually stated by Disney that it was the reason. But all signs point in that direction. It caused a pretty big stir when they originally changed the lego set. It was talked about here on the boards as well.

That makes sense

We can’t be offensive now…can we?

The whole Jango thing…not to tangent…was more definitive proof that George had ADHD when it came to the stories…but could concentrate on Walmart all day long

No doubt, but me thinks this is more LEGO than Disney on this one.
The article I had seen from the Hollywood reporter said

" Jens Kronvold Frederiksen, Lego Star Wars design director, told the site that Disney asked the name be changed for the latest model. Neither Disney nor Lego responded to a request for additional comment."

So take that for what it's worth since no one officially commented.

Eh, call it a joint decision and split the difference.

Well, Firespray class starship is the correct ship type but it is still named Slave-1 just like the Millennium Falcon is YT-1300 light freighter. We just don't call the Falcon a YT-1300.

Slave I, also spelled Slave One and also known as Boba Fett's starship, was a modified Firespray-31-class patrol and attack craft used by the infamous Mandalorian bounty hunter Jango Fett before the Clone Wars and later his unaltered cloned son, Boba Fett, just prior to the Fall of the Republic and during the reign of the Galactic Empire. The ship in its original form was produced by a subsidiary company of Kuat Drive Yards, based on the planet Kuat.

The majority of Lego buyers…and this does come on good authority…are now adults/collectors

And they are more than fine with Slave I smell a rodent…the lego culture wouldn’t bother with such trivial things

Represents the same clueless decisions we see in the studios

In general its all trivial, so whether Disney or LEGO its only one of those things "we" notice and complain about.

But yes I don't have any issue saying it could be Disney or LEGO, either way we can say it was a weird decision overall.

I understand the ship being named Slave 1 has nothing to do with slavery.

I also understand why they would not use that name because it could generate criticism or misunderstanding, creating a discussion that really has no upside.

I also don't care because it's not an iconic ship name. I don't know that it's ever even spoken out loud anywhere. If they renamed something like the Millennium Falcon, which is obviously significant, it would get my attention.

I also suspect that when something that might be offensive to some is changed, some people jump on the chance to criticize that change, because it's a way to make their opinions known without explicitly stating them, *wink* *wink*.

The name isn't said in the movies but is mentioned a lot in comics and EU books. Every piece of merchandise before Disney called it Slave 1 since 1980.

If you're in London in June and wanted to watch the original unedited non-special edition version of New Hope, it's being shown at the BFI Film Festival for the first time since 1978 -

Why is everyone focused on Slave 1 when THIS drops? Could this potentially lead to a wider release?

Personally I doubt it, there is a reason why this is one of the few remaining print copies left in existence.

Since a majority of theaters don’t use film projectors anymore it would require BFI to loan out their copy of the print to be digitized. And while I’m sure it’s possible from a technology perspective, if BFI had to negotiate with Lucas himself to just show the film I doubt he is going to approve it being digitized and made available for wide release. So it makes it less likely in my opinion for it to happen.
