Galaxy's Edge popularity vs Potter's popularity

The real question is, where will these 2 franchises be in 50 years.

Kids will still be reading Potter long after Disney kills the goose that lays the golden eggs.

From the recent huge drops in merchandise sales and the utter failure of TLJ in China ane the disappointing box offic in the US Disney seems to well along the path to killing interest in Star Wars

China has never been into star wars.

And the merchandise was just bad this year. My son is a huge Star Wars fan, loves all the movies, has tons of Star Wars toys. But he really didn't want any for Christmas because there weren't many good ones this year. Lower merchandise sales (and they were lower but they still were solid) doesn't mean the franchise is dying. TLJ is still one of the most successful films of all time, both domestically and internationally, China being the exception. It just couldn't hold a candle to all the pent up demand of TFA.

Worth noting that Empire didn't do nearly as well as the original Star Wars or Return of the Jedi. Middle films often suffer from this. Yet most consider it the best of all the movies. Not saying TLJ is at that Calibur but it's way too early to say that Disney is killing Star Wars. Put it up against any other movie franchise and tell me which one is more successful at the box office?

But I get it. Disney can't do anything right in your eyes, otherwise it would destroy your trolling persona.

WRT Box Office: TLJ is number 9 worldwide and number 6 domestically.

This is just another case of you lying as part of your obsessive Disney-hate.

But for you, you have shown that any softening of numbers, even though those numbers still show Disney making huge profits is a sign that Disney will collapse.

You know we all know you lie and make stuff up, right? You're not convincing anyone.

Just had a look at the takings for 'Fantastic Beasts' compared to 'The Last Jedi' after reading this.

Rather surprisingly 'Fantastic Beasts' even though released around 14 months ago has made less money than 'The Last Jedi' which has been out less than 2 months according to these reports

The Last Jedi
Fantastic Beasts

Yes. Potter's biggest problem is that the story is told. It's done. ...and all the new stories still tie back to Voldemort  ...which is done. It seems that Rowling doesn't have any fresh material.

I have some quarrels with the direction of the new SW franchise, but they are definitely plowing new ground. Can Potter do that? I suppose we'll find out in the future.

Whilst I don't like Potter myself, I don't see the story as being told. It's fictional so really it's just down to the imagination of J.K. really, she could branch out and create a whole new series of books about Potter being middle aged and having a son or daughter who takes over as a leading character with different stories from a different school (assuming this hasn't been done?).

As you say though time will tell, though I don't see either franchise disappearing anytime soon.

She certainly could, but she hasn't shown any inclination to do this as of yet.

I'd like a Wizarding World movie about The Three Brothers.

Does it really matter? The fan base is installed for the foreseeable and there are three additional areas based on the IP being planned that I know of.

If anything, SWL is way too small from the off for the interest it is bound to generate.

I completely agree that SWL is too small. They could have taken more of HS. I've joked about converting Pandora to Endor - but they absolutely should build a Star Wars SOMETHING at AK, and I think a Star Wars "city" would be cool in the World Showcase. That would come with the added benefit of watching the WS purists' heads explode. :)

Absolutely they shouldn’t. DHS is enough of a mess as it is. And will continue to be. Not everyone likes the IP.

Having said that this is one of a handful of IPs that could have supported its own gate.

Making DHS a mess for a few years is no big deal. Frankly, it was a mess anyway - like the front of Epcot is now. Ya gotta break a few eggs to make an omelette.

Ya gotta do what?!

Anyhow, it wasn't a mess before 2014, the current mess was actively created by the company. Closing LMA, BLT, Premiere, playground, GMR, parade, even Jack Sparrow, and probably some stuff I missed, all drastically lowered the capacity and offerings. My family would spend more time there than Epcot or DAK. It was a solid park, now, not so much. What's worse is that the new offerings will hardly make up for that lost capacity, but there'll probably be a large increase in crowds, so it'll still be a mess.

As an overall park it will be less cohesive than it was in 1989. Or 1994. And it will be overrun. Swamped.
OK, I can see that, its one of my favorite parks despite the changes and Ive been going since it opened. I'm sure it will be swamped once SWL opens but overall I'm glad additions are being made. Thanks again for all you do providing information and the great videos you produce!

Sorry, but I have to disagree. DHS has been ship without a rudder - basically since they moved the animators out in 2004. Ever since then (and a little before) they've been retreating from the "movie" theme of this park. ...but since THAT'S WHAT IT IS, it's hard to do that - resulting in the mess you see today. Before all of that, I agree, it was an awesome park. It was briefly my favorite - but those days are Gone With The Wind. ;-)
