I just saw this article on Yahoo and thought it was pretty funny. It's about a poll that was taken to vote for the strangest street names in the United States.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060225/ap_on_fe_st/odd_street_names

The top 10 list was:

10. Tater Peeler Road in Lebanon, Texas

9. The intersection of Count and Basie in Richmond, Va.

8. Shades of Death Road in Warren County, N.J.

7. Unexpected Road in Buena, N.J.

6. Bucket of Blood Street in Holbrook, Ariz.

5. The intersection of Clinton and Fidelity in Houston

4. The intersection of Lonesome and Hardup in Albany, Ga.

3. Farfrompoopen Road in Tennessee (the only road up to Constipation Ridge)

2. Divorce Court in Heather Highlands, Pa.

1. Psycho Path in Traverse City, Mich.

Although, the funniest one I ever ran across was in Massachusetts, I think in the town of Weston if I remember correctly: Hemlock Way(with a sign beneath it indicating "Dead End.")

Hahaha!

All of the streets in my town are numbered 1 to 24. Ocean Ave and Bay Ave, you guessed it, run parallel to their landmarks.

Creative huh??!

There's a Louis Lane in the city I live in. It would've been better if they had just named it Lois Lane...but whatever. Maybe it's named after Lois' brother or father or something.

I'm loving the ones you all have posted. Great stuff! :) I'll keep my eyes peeled for funny ones.

**Edit** Just found one while looking at a map of my city - Hooker Street.

My favourite here in Halifax is Trollope St. This street has had this name for a couple of hundred years, and I assume it was named after someone named Trollope, but I get a cheap laugh when I see it (insert adult content warning here).

A major throughfare out of Macon, Georgia is called the Gray Highway (It leads to a small town called Gray)

Also in Macon, a major artery through town is Pio Nono Avenue (named after Pope Pius the Ninth). You can always tell if someone is from out of town and wants directions to "Pea -oh-no-no." Locals pronounce it "Pie-Nona."

I love living in the mountains. We've got some truly rediculous road names. For instance:

Possum Trot (no Opossum like it should be spelled)
Four Wheel Drive
Lick-skillet Lane
Lois Lane
King Arthurs Court

AND FINALLY...

Short Road
Long Road

(Yeah, I'm a perv)

Actually, the first season of Smallville had an episode where there was a bowling alley called "Lois Lanes." It was the actual name of the bowling alley and was a total coincidence as it happened to be located on Lois Street.
