Funny story on Saving for Disney

I just had to share this story, I thought it was pretty funny.

The kids know we are trying to save up spending money for our next trip, so they see me list things on Ebay, hear me make comments like "Well that's some extra money for Disney", when I get some extra etc. Well, last night I was paying some bills and my DS age 9 asked what I was doing. I told him "Paying some bills, sweetie.". And he said, "But we need that money for our Disney trip!". LOL

I guess I have been going overboard talking about saving $$!! :hammer:

On another note, my DS age 6 was just looking through his WDW for Kids book, and he asked if we can go to Fantasmic tonight because he really likes that show! (plus he always asks how many days left, thank goodness for that new trip countdown)

Guess we all have Disney on the brain......

Any other cute stories about your kids geting excited about their next trip?

Well, I'm not a kid (age 20) and I do NOT have kids!

But every morning I wake up to my boyfriend and tell him how many days we have left (30!!) and ask him every morning if he thinks he'll wear a disney shirt. I bring up Disney 5 or more times a day; and he points it out every time.

I ALWAYS have Disney on the brain, I just don't know what I'm going to do after the trip is over. Start planning another?? :p

i dont have any kids but i thought your story was cute :) .

what i can say is this: my trip is only 38 days away, oh my god i can remember when it was something like 300 days away, but what i do is every morning i wake up with a smile on my face thinking its not long left before i got a job i use to put £20 away a week and that would be how i would save money up for my spends because i already had my money to pay for my holiday.
i go to work and they told me the other day that if i go on holiday they will sack me so i chose my holiday (i was only there over the holiday period) and i always write on a piece of paper how many days i have left and that always puts a smile on my face :) and sometimes i write down what im gonna do when i get there but i do what i always do!

nobody seems to understand how excited i am about going!!!!!!!!!:sohappy: :xmas: :)

anyone else had this problem?

Aw that's so sweet! I love the eBay thing, too...I live on eBay. Never sold on it though. Good luck saving, you'll have a great trip of course!

My mom and I are very into planning for our trips, my dad's apathetic about the planning aspect but really loves just being on the trip. I'm really excited...:sohappy:

Very cool, we are going this year from 12/3 - 12/10. When we get home on 12/11 my wife will tape up a large plastic storage container and cover it in Disney pictures. Then she cuts a hole in the top and the kids all put extra change in there until our next trip.

There's not necessarily any cute stories about my kids getting ready for a trip, since I don't have any of those yet... but there are plenty of cute stories about me getting ready for a trip...

shame that I can't post any of them here :lookaroun

My DD age 5, has been saving her allowance for the last year in her Cinderella music box. She gets it out every week or so and counts it up. Recently she wanted something at the store and I told her she could take it out of her Disney savings if she really wanted it. Alas, no, she wanted the money for Disney...says she is going to buy all the "popsicles" and "animals" at Disney (with only about $25  ). Lucky her...I saved all her Christmas money from last year knowing she would need it.

DD#2 age 2 1/2 - has no clue what money is other than her sister likes it and she likes stealing from her sister. Lucky her as well on last year's Christmas money, since she doesn't get an allowance yet and doesn't really care.

I get to cash in my points on my Disney Visa this week. Been earning double points for the last two months so I have some now saved up....DH won a contest and his gift was Disney gift certificates so he is set. Only 16 more days!!!!:xmas: :sohappy: :xmas: :sohappy: :xmas:

because I have to leave early before the family, ( I have to work black friday ) I was thinking of going again during the flower and garden festival, and we haven't even gone on this one yet. Because we will be looking into more DVC points we may be able to do it. 2 days left, I CAN"T STAND IT!!!!!!!!
PS; your avatar pic, was that the only shot, or did you try more than once?

Our Disney Saving Story is just beginning. We were there last Thanksgiving (2004) and have friends leaving tomorrow for Orlando. The kids are jealous and our reply is that we are saving for the next trip. So, to ease their pain, we put the Spectromagic and other Disney CD's we picked up last year and watch them make up routines. Real Cute.

Whenever I list something on ebay that belonged to my either of my two daughters (clothing outgrown, not their style anymore) the money generated from that sale gets puts aside for their spending money at WDW. It adds up and they always have a nice amount for souvenirs. They are careful how they spend their money because they know how much they have and how fast it can go on junk.

My 4y/o DD has already been to Disney 8 times and loves it!! She will always say to me, "Mommy I want to go back to Disney" and I say, "Me, too". Then she says, "Can we go on Saturday?"  I always say "sure". Talk about no concept of money!!

Mich RX7 you said "Very cool, we are going this year from 12/3 - 12/10. When we get home on 12/11 my wife will tape up a large plastic storage container and cover it in Disney pictures. Then she cuts a hole in the top and the kids all put extra change in there until our next trip."

your dates confuse me. You say you are saving for your trip which you posted yesterday and say you are going on 12th March 05 but thats gone? and you were going on 12th March returning 12th oct wow thats some long trip. Wish I could go for that long but alas its only 2 weeks in Feb. just under three months away now. Holiday paid for but spending cash still needs a miracle but I'm going!

Hmm...I am guessing you are European? We went to DL-Paris for the first time last June and when I started planning for it I was mad that SM2 was going to be closed until I realized the dates were backwards! (btw, SM2 was very cool)

We are arriving on Dec 3rd and leaving on Dec 10th, 2005. So just a short trip (shorter than your's). But a well deserved one. We will also probably go down in January for a company retreat (I LOVE MY JOB). And then we are already planning to go in October of 2006 (which is what the kids will be saving up for with their change bucket). Last time we did this for a year it had $700+ in it when my wife took it to the bank.

Whoops! OK I'm tired! :hammer: Yes I'm from the UK and completely forgot US dates are the other way round. Feb 8th is my second trip and I cannot wait but suppose I must. :) We were there in June 2004 so am hoping the weather will be a bit less oppresive. Before that had been to Euro Disney which feels almost crowded as its all fitted in on a very small area of land. And Euro Disney is somewhat cold!

Hope you have a great trip!

DITTO!

I will say this about PDL. The Phantom Manor had great effects (though it was a little short). Pirates was still Pirates (though I over-hyped the sword fighting scene and was mildly letdown when I actually saw it). IaSW was interesting to see some different scenes. I enjoyed Indy (though my wife hated the loop). We skipped BTMRR because it looked almost the same and the line was long. The dragon under the castle was very cool. And I liked how you could just go up and enjoy the stained glass inside the castle. I was however thoroughly letdown by the 20,000 leagues walk-through in tomorrowland (half because I read it wrong and thought it was a 20k ride, lol).

I'll be making my first trip to London this June and am looking forward to it since I will be the first member of my family to return to England since we came over on the Mayflower.

My parents and I have always saved up using a giant green coke bottle bank - it's nearly 2.5 feet high. After our first trip (when I was 5), we used the as a gauge as to when we could afford to go - when it got filled to the top it meant that we had enough to go (or so they told me). Now we just have it to save for spending money, pocket change goes in there. Unfortunately, we'll have to retire it after this trip, as the plastic is cracking and starting to split from the wear over the years. I shall miss it, as it has been around as long as I have.

I also have a jar sitting on my desk in my dorm room - when I have to break a bill to get something, if I still have money in my pocket at the end of the day, regardless of what it is, it goes in the jar. I'm taking it home to add to the big bottle this weekend.
