Whatever the reason is, I think its sad that they are basically using such a successful IP but not utilizing it correctly. IMO this sounds so thrown together and they figured "Hey, its Frozen so it will draw crowds anyways, no matter how low the budget".

I disagree and think this is 100% Potter related. Studios is the least visited park and the most likely to be cut from guest vacations to check out Potter at Uni. It's also very coincidental that Potter opens July 8th and this starts July 5th. Yeah Frozen isn't unisex but it's their current hottest property and all they have to fight with at the moment.

I think they are just trying to meet the demand.

I fail to understand how a "parade" and a "special show" would compete with a whole new land or rides and attractions.

This wouldn't be a driving force me to go to DHS. It would only be a bonus to *me* because of my kiddo. If I was there solo I wouldn't even stop to see the Frozen stuff. Just like the only reason I went to H&V was too see Sofia for her.

I have zero desire to see all the HP stuff. I never got into the books/movies.

What will happen to the attendance at DHS? I don't see why anyone here thinks this will have an affect on Universal since Frozen and HP go after different audiences. This is a case of which characters have a bigger draw? Hp has a huge lead in advertising so if I would be shocked it Universal didn't win the battle but the war for Disney won't start until star wars is built.

This is a combination of the 3 of the 4 options.

I don't think is a lot of Universal because of age group of Frozen compare to Harry Potter.

Disney brought Frozen over to DHS from a money standpoint because the vp of DHS think DHS is hurting without special events from a money standpoint. Star War Weekend dates were increased this year from a money standpoint and the Star War meals for that matter. The Higher ups know Frozen is a hot IP from a selling standpoint and is doing better than they originally thought.

DHS is park that doesn't have a lot of things to do and this does help in terms of bring kids into that park and keep them stay longer.

Frozen is an ip that Disney actually dropped the ball with because they didn't expect the film to do as well as it did unlike what Eisner expected out of Beauty and the Beast.

I'm going to say shameless cash grab while the ip is red hot.

If it was a shameless cash grab it would have been a separate hard ticket event. I think they are trying to do whatever they can to satisfy the public demand for the property. Obviously the lines for the M&G are still ridiculously long most of the time and that is even with extended hours. Hopefully this will buy TDO some time to develop a top notch attraction if that is indeed their plan. WDW is really in a no-win situation with most people because if they do nothing "fans" complain and when they do actually try to do something different the same "fans" complain. SMH

Stop saying its "thrown together" and a "poor use of the IP." Obviously it was thrown together, it wouldn't have been announced out of nowhere otherwise, but that isn't a bad thing in this case. IMO its nice to see a snappy decision made and then implemented quickly for a change. It's not a poor use of the IP - actual attractions take years of planning. This is a placeholder at the right time. And DHS having nightly fireworks is a good thing!

Surprise that they are using the Premiere Stage in the back of the park, with so many empty sound stages in the front. Also it bad enough they leaving the stage up near the Sorcerer Hat for a projection light show.
Wonder for the ice rink they gonna rent out ice skates? Cannot see Disney letting people walk on ice and twist their ankles.
Wonder how fast they can get the Osborn Christmas light back up and tied that in with Frozen this year.?

What open sound stages up front? There's only Monster Sound and that's half the capacity.

Because printing money isn't legal so this is that alternative

But . . .

Wow. I can't believe people are complaining about this. Like many have said, this is not suggesting they won't build a ride or a themed land down the road (I know the rumors of EPCOT), but why not do something now???? People complain when nothing happens and when something happens. I applaud Disney for doing something to add some new entertainment to the Studios- good for them.

I'm really looking forward to the fireworks show. The rest of it I don't care as much about, but they'll pull demand from other things I do like.

Can't wait to see the Guest Relations line of people complaining about no meet n greet.

While that certainly is true, isn't it justifiable on the grounds of "the girls can't be in two places at once" line of thinking? If they are at the singalone, how can they be somewhere else meeting guests?

This happens all the time at MK. None of the princesses who are at CRT stop meeting just because meals are being served or a parade where they appear is on. I think it's the idea that, as long as they are not actually seen at both places at once by the same set of eyes, all is good.

Apparently they did not anticipate how popular Frozen would be. If they had they might have had more well-thought-out attractions in the works before the movie came out. Since they didn't, they are rushing to satisfy the huge demand. Seems to make the people happy, and I don't think it precludes longer term Frozen projects.

I think its to get people at another park and not all focused in on Magic Kingdom for their frozen fix. And this would be a great fix for those who do not want to wait in line to meet them but rather see them. This is going to be great for all those people who feel they get jipped with only seeing them in the parade and opening show @ MK. I thinks its a great addition and I cannot wait to see the fireworks!

Sounds very cool :)

What with all the "money grab" comments every time Disney does something new? They are a business, of course they want more of our money. Potter 2.0 is a "money grab", NFL at WDW is a "money grab", the larger fries for my combo meal at Jack In The Box is a "money grab", the pack of gum I pick up at the checkouts at the store is a "money grab".....it's simple business. I bet Zog the caveman tried to sell Gug the caveman a extra set of sharpened rocks when Gug was buying a new club from him.

Nothing new at Disney about this, they were "money grabbing" when they were selling tickets to rides when they first opened the gates all those decades ago.

I say give me more choices at WDW and let me decide if I want to pay to play or not :)

This will capture the attention of the hordes that will be heading to Uni from out of town. Hence the over the top criticism upon the announcement. Plus fireworks. :cat:
