I really liked Frozen, enjoyed Tangled, and loved Frankenweenie. Wreck it Ralph, Brave, and Big Hero 6 did absolutely nothing for me.

Had Frozen not made $1.2 billion worldwide it would be in the same position BH6 is now.

That's why they couldn't keep up with demand. The pre-established plan was to only carry so much merch for so long. Then the mad scramble happened because of their own lack of prepardness/faith in the property. And this was for a "Princess" film no less.

They still haven't really learned their lesson.

You do realize that both manufacturers and retailers have to get on board with production and orders that are not solely Disney's to manage? Much of the process is done long before the movie is even complete and is always a gamble for everyone involved, most are reluctant to order too much for any movie they don't have a track record for, all they can do is project based on past expectations many times.

Once a movie takes off like Frozen did it can take a very long time for the manufacturers to reallocate production because of other contracts, retailers must reorder before the manufacturers will initiate another run or begin the process to expand a product line.

None of this happens overnight, most of the time it takes a full year. Think about this, SW7 action figure sculpts were leaked four months ago, more than a full year before it is released. The expectation is that SW7 will be huge, dwarfing Frozen for merch sales so toy companies are producing the toys now so they have enough to meet expected demand. If they produced all the toys that could have sold and the movie wasn't popular Disney wouldn't be the one holding the excessive inventory and write downs that would have inevitable.

I actually kinda liked Brave. It was different. Wreck it Ralph was ok, it was about what I expected. I really liked Tangled, not sure why, it just grew on me the first time I saw it.

Frozen was an animated Disney princess movie. Not many franchises have a better track record than that.

Heck, Princess and the Frog merch was selling well even before the movie's release.

From my understanding merchandise stock orders for Frozen were higher than PatF and Tangled but were still woefully short. Retailers did not order enough stock plain and simple but this includes the parks.
It is incredibly rare to hit the level of crazy Frozen has and continues to generate which makes it incredibly difficult to forecast a year out.

To each their own.. I guess.

Surprised nobody's mentioned Winnie the Pooh yet. Granted, they didn't really need to do anything for that since the Pooh ride was open long before it was released (although the film DID give them the perfect opportunity to add a Pooh ride to Disneyland Paris).

It wont. With the ride opening up by 2016 and then the movie, plus the short, it won't die down anytime soon. Merchandise sales may fade a bit but it's not going away.

Yes, but it's so much easier and cooler to just say 'Haha Disney's dumb'.

I agree, Kman101. I suspect anyone looking to be "done" with Frozen themed toys etc will be disappointed. Frozen-related merchandise overtook Barbie for the number 1 requested toy for girls this past holiday season.

It doesn't seem to be cooling much up here anyway.
We spent the greater part if the school year looking for a boy themed Olaf backpack for our younger son. We are taking both boys (10 and 6) to see Frozen on Ice in Toronto next week, and both boys are now begging to go back to the world this summer to go back to Frozen Summer fun.

They're not alone in our area either. Seems to be strong as ever, lord help us all.

(For the record, I loved the movie, but my goodness they need to let it go...)
