Thank you sir...

Even without ride specifics, this is a half assed idea... I still blame Meg (blaming Meg is still in vogue here right? )

Yep, without specifics, without art, without announcement, without schedule...Oh, wait, sorry, we already have a date, it's apparently going to happen in Sept.-Oct.
Gee, I hope ride rehab won't have started while I'm on my trip. At least I won't have to worry about them closing down the entire area. :p

The WDI ppl working on this are surprised that guest feedback has been kinda angry at the notion of Maelstrom being replaced by a Frozen ride.

I don't know any way to interpret this other than the very people tasked with creative development of the park fundamentally do not understand the theme, purpose, and vision for World Showcase. That's not very encouraging regardless of what happens with Maelstrom.

Epcot wanted Frozen the ride!

I've spoken to Epcot, and the park would much prefer to have its soul back instead... :(

I don’t blame the individual imagineers for coming up with these sorts of concepts. They are just building what the public wants, at the expense of the original intent of the parks.
No, they are building what management tells them to build.

No, they are building what management tells them to build.
Which was exactly the point of my post. Management tells them to build what the public wants, but it is the bare minimum of what the public wants. Management needs to drive to exceed the expectations of the masses. Simply listening to the whims of the public gets you character overlays. Listening to the demand and brainstorming a solution that exceeds what the public imagines gets you something much better and longer lasting.

yeah .. hopefully..

Well in the passed 6 months there have been 3 big rumors about Epcot

1. Imagination Pavilion Referb, 2. Frozen Overlay for Norway, and 3. Ratatouille ride added to France

The only one I can imagine them spending the money to do is the Imagination Pavilion, because they clearly don't spend money on anything if they don't need to, and they really don't need to add anything to WS

Is your mother a member on Intercot? Someone over there posted the same exact rumors... I haven't seen any of those, only this Frozen garbage nonsense.... Hmmm....

No. She does facebook and her email and that's about it. She is not plugged in, so if she's heard it, it's at the very least very widespread.

Just a side note... On Orlando United, a respected member of the community over there said to be prepared for a lot of false rumors to leak out about future plans for Walt Disney World... Is it possible this is part of that, if this is true about loads of false rumors? Get the general public hyped up on Disney and WDW, keep the focus on them and not Universal (cause let's face it, Disney has nothing in the pipeline to respond to the Harry Potter hype), get people talking.... Long shot I know, but maybe?????

WDI is more out of touch with the theme park experience than the park operations executives that are vilified here on the internet.

Just so I can make that point abundantly clear with one example: PHIL HOLMES CARES MORE ABOUT THE MAGIC KINGDOM THAN ANY IMAGINEER EVER WILL.

Okay, so that was a little over the top. But sometimes the hard facts have to be shared with big letters.
I'm starting to come around to this school of thought. The parks wouldn't suck if WDI replaced things with grander ideas. Now that the no talents have started taking their hostility out on the fans it's pretty easy to see where the problem lies.

I don't normally post, but this thread got me thinking. Could it be possible that this value-engineered overlay might be a sort of "proof of concept" for future Frozen attractions abroad? Similar to Jack Sparrow at DHS being a test for the SDL Pirates ride. Especially since we know according to Iger that Frozen is a top five franchise and that SDL just received a major cash influx. Not to mention HKDL's rumored fast-tracked second gate.

I agree --- rumors get people excited and spread the Disney name. I actually do have a feeling Norway/Frozen overhaul will happen but the others (Movie Ride/Ratatouille) --- i don't think there is much to that.

But what do i know!

I have a feeling this is the case as well, but it makes so little sense that you never know... And other than Star Wars, what other IP does Disney have that would generate online buzz and lessen the Diagon Alley hype? Frozen... What IP would get little girls and manchild adults peeing their pants thinking they will be brought into the world of Arendelle? Frozen...

Disney would love to think so but regardless, this was one movie and as an op it will not reach as many people as star wars will. Betting on a Frozen land will be selling themselves short.

I'm pretty sure that he was talking about Frozen-land's value as a false rumor.

What ride idea would fans immediately think "had" to be built? Movie-based dark/boat/coaster based on current in-theaters hit, with accompanying "new land" area, to retire/rehab/punish icky unwanted "old" attraction...

I'm pretty sure that he was talking about Frozen-land's value as a false rumor.

And one thing I credit the real Imagineers with, even THEIR false rumors are more creative, and they know specifically where to spread the story. (Screamscape, Jim Hill, etc.)
If it was an officially sanctioned in-house fake, we'd have seen the full-color concept art gone uber-viral on half a dozen websites by now. I'm guessing this one was third-party.

Now, they'd never do it, but if they did decide to go with the fans and make it official that Tangled and Frozen exist in a shared continuity, then you'd have something you could start to work with.
