Frozen ride replacing Maelstrom?

I think Big Hero 6 would be more likely. Remember, Disney only distributes Studio Ghibli films, they don't own them.

Yes that is true, but I was thinking more along the lines of Disney collaborating with Hayao Miyazaki to create an original attraction, possibly based on a Japanese folk tale? Similar to the Sindbad attraction over at DisneySeas but using the Mystic Manor vehicle technology.

The only movies in World Showcase that are appropriate is when the movies originated from that country. So Miyazaki would be a very appropriate showcase of Japanese culture, while an American movie would just make a caricature of it. I'd really love a Totoro attraction. Imagine riding through Miyazaki's amazing world in a cat bus...

I would agree with you if we were talking EPCOT Center but that died a painful death along time ago. Now we just have Epcot.

The Maelstrom is a classic, and should remain that way. However, it has not withstood the test of time very well. Not along ago, the ceiling was black with mold (so what do they do - paint it black!). Faced with the choice of fixing it or replacing it... I hate to say it, but I think I know which way they'd go. Which is a whole new level of sad. I'm not liking the "characterization" of EC rides. Witness what they did to El Rio del Tiempo The Three Caballeros. Ugh.

Maelstrom needs all the help it can get, not an overlay. Regardless, I don't see the monies being spent either way....

Repairing the damage from the vendor mishaps once and for all, hopefully.

Do you know if they will bring landscaping back in? Along the small creek that flows out from the waterfall under the little bridge there use to be trees and foliage along the rocks and creek. They ripped it all out and left it that way in the open.

I guess Im hoping once that meetngreet is out of there they will restore some of the pavilions beauty etc.

Yes, eventually. Horticulture won't put plants back in places where they'll get trampled, though.

I would love of they did something with Miyazaki in the Japan Pavilion. Totoro was one of my fav movies as a kid, and I have the original 20th Century Fox dub/sub on DVD...took me a while to hunt that down. The Disney dub sounds too strange to my ears as it wasn't the version I grew up with. Riding on the catbus would be amazing.

The worlds of Spirited Away, Ponyo, and Howl's Moving Castle among others would also provide some rich fodder of an attraction. One can dream eh?

alright here's my take on all of this...
Anna and Elsa are moving very soon (April 20? ) to fairytale hall
All predictions about turning the maelstrom ride into a frozen one wouldn't make sense. Why would Anna and Elsa be moving from epcot to MK if Disney was turning maelstrom into a frozen ride? Now I understand that yes it could still happen and work out but I still have other questions on if this is true or not. If The Frozen Ride was placed in epcot would Norway be turned into arendelle? This would require Norway to be revamped which would cost a lot. Also if this ride was made there how would arendelle fit into world showcase? It simply wouldn't make any sense. I predict that no, the ride wont be replaced. There are too many what if's and too many risks. Will they make a frozen ride? I sure hope so! If it is made I definitely will be in the line to ride.

They're probably too cheap, even for an overlay (I don't want an overlay of Maelstrom). I think it's been said that it's probably not happening but like you said, you never know.

They have to see the waits for these characters though. Problem is it seems to take 5-7 years for anything to even be planned and built. I guess there's always Frozen 3 in 2018 ;) lol (I have no idea if there will be a Frozen 3, just teasing a bit).

The pavilion could not handle the mass crowds for such a small space.......to the second bold I sure hope not........and it was sounding like if a Frozen attraction ever did happen Disneyland would get it. It was not sounding very likely for here. They had apparently kicked around the idea of a frozen overlay in maelstrom but Frozen really deserves bigger and better not a cheap overlay (wake up TDO, do something grand for a change). And Im not sure of the status on the proposed princess pavilion between Mexico and Norway, whether its been dropped all together or put on hold like everything else because of nextgen budget etc.
Question is now that the meetngreet is out, will that space revert back to merch??? I hope they restore Norway a bit and clean the place up, its been a mess.

I would love to see a Frozen attraction that's not a meet and greet at Disney soon, maybe in Fantasyland.

Although I'm sure that Imagineers are snickering offstage EVERY SINGLE TIME a Disney fan says "Let's have a dark ride based on the current hit-film of the moment!"
The first requirement of the job is Thinking Outside the Box, and that, friend is The Box. It was the "Armchair Imagineer" Fan Box that gave us Stitch's Great Escape ("Why don't they turn Alien Encounter into Stitch Encounter?"), and it was The Box that gave us Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor. ("Maybe they could finally turn Timekeeper into a Door Ride!")
Even the Little Mermaid ride wasn't built until they showed us what the ride-through would look like.

I like A&E (well, Elsa, anyway, Anna babbled like an ABC sitcom character) but hated the movie, so call me impartial when talking about Frozen park-representation--
But I'm sure the mania for the characters will die down by next fall, when the mania passes--how crowded was Rapunzel's spot, when Tangled first hit?--but getting a park ride based on a movie with a little too much temporary zeitgeist is the sort of permanent commitment they like to avoid in favor of short-run tests. It's always easy to do something you'll regret years later.

The problem with Stitch's Great Escape and Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor isn't the films, it's the quality of production of these rides that people loathe. Tokyo Disneyland also has a Monsters Inc. attraction, but it is very popular and why? Because it is superior in quality and production. Disney has the ability to make a great attraction regardless of what film they use. TDO just chooses not to put the time, money, or effort into most of what they put out.

Also, from what I've seen, Rapunzel is still very popular. People may not be storming down the barricades to see her, but there is still a demand in the parks for her. I find it funny how certain you are that Frozen's popularity will die down by Fall. I believe people said something similar, except they put the time frame in the Spring of this year. And here we are, in the middle of Spring, and the fever for Frozen is still strong. You may not like the film, but it's clear that it's it a chord with a majority of people. I'm not saying this warrants a ride in the parks, but Disney would be a fool to underestimate Frozen's popularity, in fact, they already have.
