Frozen ride replacing Maelstrom?

Why couldn't they theme the pavilion to weather and use the ride space for Stormrider? Granted they'd have to resize the original ride but the premise could remain the same and open up the floor of the pavilion for weather related exhibits and whatnot.
While I love TDS to death, StormRider kind of sucks

Yeah, I know it's not the best. I just suggested it because we know Disney likes to copy stuff rather than create new stuff. Still, it could serve as a placeholder until they got something else. Anything to help the crowds in Future World would be welcome.

Weather is fascinating. I'd never seen a lightening storm before I moved to Florida...never in my life have I seen anything as impressive, awesome and powerful. Very exciting, a little frightening.

There is so much they could do with a weather pavilion and today's technology. That would be a great use of tech - not just to use it, but to make something cool.

What more is there to say? You and some others will just continue to deny the artistry that made the Disney Difference. You're denying the importance of theme at a theme park.

and you're failing to acknowledge that Walt Disney's original Imaginers had several decades worth of experience creating classic motion pictures before they began making classic theme park attractions, plus they also had Walt Disney to guide them.

todays imaginers are collage kids, not veteran film makers, and they are being lead by CEOs who are nothing but glorified accountants, and I don't get the impression any of these people have the creativity or confidence to generate any kid of original content for the parks. I think that's why they go around buying IPs and sticking Avatar here Nemo there, I think they're actually doing the best the are capable of.

I don't think the current management shares you opinion on the importance of theme, because the general public doesn't care, but they are standing in line for 4 hours to meet the girls from Frozen

I would agree with your point the current management doesn't get the importance of theme however to a lot of families with small children the difference between Disney and a lot of other parks is the characters. I hated them the first visist or two with my children but now, the photos from those meets are our most cherished from our visits. The kids (now 21 and 16) both say the same thing, they remember meeting so and so the first time or Donald refusing to sign a Mickey Mouse plush. Those memories are part of the reason people continue to pay outrageous amounts of money to visit a Disney park.

And yes, if was that important to my daughter when she was little I would have waited in line as long as it took for to meet a character or two.

Well..... That's kinda negative to say....... There's people like me who have devoted their lives to one day become one of those imagineers who you have just antagonized.

You can't say that these college kids who are controlled my accountants haven't made great lands and rides such as carsland and NFL... If it wasn't good, why would they need to increase the standby enterence sign on RSR to 3+Hours, if it wasn't good, people wouldn't go, and they would still be desperate for people.

I think that there doing a great job at doing their job...maybe they will replace maelstrom, I trust them to do the right thing.

What I don't understand sometimes is people venting because they closed a 20 year old ride 10 years ago, and why making a new ride over it was wrong....

For example, horizons... As you have said, kids now have google to learn how we were supposed to go into the 21st century, which we're 14 years into now by the way, and now they now use their computers to learn how people are farming in the desert, flying to mars in 2023, and to use skype.... I agree it was a great ride, but the general public who aren't disney fanatics who don't look at the ride like it's more than a ride like I did, would like to ride the first ship to Mars is 2033( wait, we're actually going 10 years before that, woo hoo us!!!) and feel like your actually flying your own space shuttle.

I think we should just go back onto topic and talk about they might be changing maelstrom to frozen, and forget about the negativity that people have to the company that made your childhood better than it would have with out it, even without Walt..... It definitely did for me!!!

What I'm saying is that Carsland and New Fantasyland, along with the up coming Avatar-land, are all based on on popular motion pictures. The first version of EPCOT was all original concepts, and it was also the last park deigned by Walt Disney's original Imaginers/"nine old men" many of whom came out of retirement to work on EPCOT. So I'm very sorry if you feel "antagonized" for not being on of the those people... but the current crop of guests to the parks seem to want to see movie characters in the parks instead of the imaginers original characters/concepts, and a Frozen over lay on Maelstrom seems to me to be inline with that trend

You know what Epcot means right, Walt wanted to make a city and be the mayor, not a theme park

I agree with the fact that it was the nine old men's last, but as there called, there/ they were old, there's always going to be that factor.....

So what if there making more money or parks based on movies, there great rides!!!!!

The key is giving people what they will enjoy and appreciate, as opposed to what they merely think they want. If you had asked anyone in 1982 what they wanted in a theme park, pretty much nobody would have asked for attractions based on academic topics; They would have asked for things like ferris wheels and roller coasters, just as guests would today.

A Frozen overlay for Maelstrom is the easy answer; Disney's reputation was built on exceeding our expectations, not taking the easy (cheap, lazy, unimaginative) way out. Guests may not always be consciously aware of the level of detail and importance of theme in a properly executed Disney attraction, but that makes it no less important, because those same guests can indeed tell you when the lack of such detail and theme results in a substandard experience.

Disney is a business, aren't they supposed to make money, you can't expect them to make rides to suit your needs.

Example: there's 2 types of artists(it may take a bit for you to unspderstand, just hear me out) I also don't mean to be rude to any artists, it's just my opinion.

Not very smart artist:

This type of artist will not paint a portrait of someone because it may destroy their artists integrity

Smart artist:

This type does paint the portrait because the money that they make will feed him for a week.

Disney imagineers are smart artists because it makes the business money, and because the rides are still works of art, but more people come then ever before.

...Or something like the Sinbad the Sailor ride from TDS being added to Moracco?

Oh, you just got that Compass of Your Heart song stuck in my head... I am a little obsessed with the Sindbad ride and I've never even been to Japan (yet). If the Sindbad attraction were ever added to World Showcase I just would be beside myself. That is a perfect example of a "cultural experience" that would indeed feel right on World Showcase.

Double check your EPCOT history. EPCOT by design is a lot older then the Magic Kingdom.

They've had success adding characters. If you're having success, why shouldn't they keep doing it?
There's no real economic reason. It's going to have a huge draw, no doubt. It will make good business. But sometimes one wishes Disney wasn't ALL about the money. Things like dignity, portraying a message, and futuristic optimism are things I naively wish the company could be about. But hey, like you said, it'll make money.

I agree, you can't come here and vent if you don't even know the history.... I know that's what people think forums are for, but it's not.

These conversations are here for people to talk about if they think it's true and speculate about it, not talk crap about Disney and their employees, especially if you do not know the history.

Again, were getting to a point in time where futuristic optimism almost solely found on google, I also wish it was still at Disney, but I believe hopeful the people like me who hope tone work at Disney will bring that back...

I also think that Disney is still portraying a message, but I think that the message has changed/been altered for newer generations, who are going to / are already living their lives differently to previous generations who didn't have this spike in technology growth.

But at some point Disney needs to maintain its standards. Loads of fantasy characters belong in the MK—that's why Fantasyland exists.

Agreed, that is why I do not think that this will go through, I think that is would be a such better idea to grow NFL out more, and have a phase 2...

@CDavid is correct. Most people are not very creative and say they want what they know. It's symbolism. How many people would have wanted Frozen anything before seeing the film?

Its business....... people are getting less and less creative, this is why I think that it is best left to the imagineers to do their job, and do what they want, ill trust them, and people will still go, even the people trashing them......
