Frozen ride replacing Maelstrom?

Have you forgotten the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride? They just shut it down "for refurb" and then nothing for over 5 years. They do whatever they want and we have to take it. They are going to say Maelstrom is going down for a refurb and then announce it has been "Frozen over" right before re opening 18 months later.

Agreed. Attractions seem to close long before a reimagining is announced. Maelstrom will close for refurbishment. At some point, perhaps through the Disney Parks blog, there will be a teaser photo or concept art coupled with a brief caption. Unless there is a huge DHS revamp announcement at D23, which I highly doubt, I suspect that Maelstrom will be the main announcement for Parks & Resorts.

Me and the DF stopped by EPCOT on Saturday for what was likely our last ride on Maelstrom. I'm not sure why, but it's always been my favorite at the park and I'm very sad to see it go.

Like some, I still wonder how the heck a boat in flowing water works for FROZEN. Anyone think they will drain it and replace the ride system?

Obviously that would be more run just an overlay.

Easy, you won't be in Arendelle when Elsa freezes it over. You'll be in Norway, and the Frozen characters are describing Norwegian culture.

**Just a guess as to how they would do the ride.

Does anyone have the Maelstrom capacity on-hand that they could provide? It can't be more than 900 or so per hour. Without a MAJOR structural change to both the show-building and the ride system I don't see how this tiny little ride could accommodate the crowds that a Frozen attraction would bring. It just doesn't make any sense to me. It would be like re-theming Toy Story Mania to Star Wars Mania. In a word, FOOLISH.
If the rumor about changing the load area for the ride to where the unload area is (so load/unload in same area), that would allow for 1-2 extra scenes. The area the boats travel to get to the current load area and the current load area could both be transformed into ride scenes, which would slightly increase capacity.

Maelstrom has a low capacity because it's a short ride, but it also has a low capacity because load/unload are in two separate areas. Putting Load/unload in the same area and using the former load area for ride space would slightly help to increase capacity as the ride would be longer.

Wow that was a huge relief. I'm looking forward to the animated short. But now...I'm just confused. Because if the Frozen ride was happening they absolutely would have announced it tonight. I'm sure that it could be announced at a later date, but why wouldn't Disney capitalize on a fantastic way to do it like tonight?

I could see them waiting to announce it during the season premiere of Once Upon a Time, both to boost numbers and because they've had a history of using that show for parks promotion.

I'd expect it to be announced at either the WDW D23 event in November or the 2015 "What's New, What's Next" event. They usually hold that in January or February every year.

When was the last time either was used as the platform for a substantial announcement?
Off the top of my head SDMT in 2012 I believe... 2013 if you want to count the Disney Spring announcement (which imo should count).

They could easily announce it on the parks blog beforehand and just use one of those to expand on the details of the ride.

On a similar note, it seemed to me, when they were talking about the inspiration for the movie, they took great pains to make the Norway connection. Kinda like a see, we told you so moment that they can point out when they go forward. That said, I did not realize the song Let It Go, basically changed the movie and caused a rewrite of sorts.

The Norway connection was made before the film came out, there's nothing really to prove...
