If there is one thing we can all agree Epcot needs, it is Lewis Black.

Said this in another thread, sorry to repeat it here:

The biggest problem that I see with turning Maelstrom into Frozen - the capacity is about 900 per hour.
The ride is short, and it has a fairly low capacity. That's a problem that cannot be overcome if they don't do some combination of these four things : 1) entirely change the load area, 2) completely re-imagine the ride system, 3) expand the footprint of the ride building to make the ride longer, 4) expand the hours for World Showcase (or at least Norway) beyond 10 hours per day.
All but one of those is not an easy fix.

If 60,000 people a day show up to see the new ride, about 51,000 people are going to be sorely disappointed when they cannot get on the new ride because 10 hours times 900 per hour is 9,000 people per day.

The most popular animated film in 20 years (possibly ever), the 5th biggest grossing film of all time, and the plan is to refurb a small attraction that lets 9,000 per day in? :banghead:

Where in the hell did you get that number? You're not even close.

Wikipedia claims 1000 per hour but evidence would suggest it's a little higher. Based on video it looks like a dispatch time of about 30 seconds per boat. Wikipedia claims 16 people per boat (4 rows * 4 riders per row). With a couple kids in a row 4 might be possible but it looks like 3 per row is more common. So if it's 12 people per boat with a 30 seconds dispatch time that would be 1440 per hour. Touring plans say "Wait per 100 people ahead, 4 minutes" which would equate to 1500 people per hour. So the 1400-1500 capacity seems to be likely.

You're getting closer, 16 riders per boat, 4.5 min ride time( so they can do about 13 laps an hour), and they normally run in 10 boat mode so there is 10 boats on the ride at a time.

By your math, Maelstrom has a capacity of 2080 per hour. That seems way too high.

But how many times do they seat 16 people per boat? Every video and picture I can find shows three people per row and often 2. Yes, theoretically it could have a higher capacity but it doesn't appear that it's practical to have four adults per row.

Adding on to the info that is total speculation, but I heard from a friend of a friend that the Norwegian CMs just got a 30 day notice and that the whole pavilion will be down...This is incredibly foreboding and I hope it is strictly rumor, but that ain't lookin' good. It's highly likely that they'll announce on that Frozen TV special. :/

Your first mistake is going on Wikipedia

No, no mistake, because I wasn't attempting to state anything there as fact, just trying to show where the lower numbers might have come from. Note that I used the work "claims" not "states as fact". If you read my post you will see that the actual facts I was presenting didn't come from Wikipedia.

Pinocchio's Daring Journey opened in 1983. What would have been the need to promote Peter Pan and Snow White and the Seven Dwarves when Pan was released two years prior and Snow was released eighteen years prior before Disneyland's opening?

I've read plenty of information in regards to how Disneyland came about and why, and it wasn't to promote the studios.
The best explanation I've ever heard:

Why did Walt Disney build Disneyland?
Because he wanted one.

If the whole pavilion goes down, well...that is not very good news for traditionalists. It would, however, suggest something more than a very simple overlay of the Maelstrom, so it at least might not be the worst possible outcome.
