Frozen ride replacing Maelstrom?

I second that emotion!

For those who will counter "well TDO let the original slip into what you describe" let me head that off at the pass:
1) Would you like to fall asleep? Try watching the original pre show movie "and it rained, and rained, and rained and rained some more...and it rained"
2) Now step through a clever hydrator effect
3) Now board your Seacab for a BRIEF ride through the tank
4) Feel free to browse around the tank area.

So the real difference is that:
1) Skip the boring movie
2) Ride a longer ride
3) Have your young ones (and those young at heart) see AQUATIC characters they like from Nemo
4) Feel free to browse around the tank area that now has updated exhibits
I remember going on the original ride as a kid and being upset over how short it was, esp after sitting through that preshow. Horrible.

Now the pavilion has an actual ride and a show. And that supposedly isn't improving on what was already there? Riiiiight.

If the Seas were sitting right now in the condition they were 10 years ago people would be . Disney can't win either way, really.

Let us just check something, they have infested the Mexico pavilion, and where is Mexico located ... North America ... just sayin'.
The Three Caballeros film has segments that take place in Mexico and a dedicated Mexican character Panchito. Sorry, but they aren't out of place and they certainly aren't invading anywhere their film didn't take them decades before.

And why were the Toons added to Mexico ...they didn't need them before in the ride ... so why now? They are culturally irrelevant to Epcot even if a Toon Rooster has been dropped in the ride.

I learned more in that 10 minute preshow film than I would in an entire day in current Epcot. To each their own I guess, but you are in luck, Disney agreed with you and decided to remove all education out of the park.
No more boring learning, on with singing fish!

I'm amused when people act like the Seas were better before the refurb. It was empty, with no ride (which wasn't anything to write home about when it was operational) and no one gave a damn it was there.

Sorry, that place is full of people every time I go now.
Some people think it was. When United Tech were still around anyway.

Maybe it's packed now due to little else to do.

Because the old ride was weird --and stale. They needed to freshen it up...

You forgot IMHO.

And funnily enough, TDO did let it slip.

They were also forced to take what minuscule budget Imagination 4 had allotted at the time and lump it into the minuscule Seas budget to produce what exists today.

I have mixed feeling on Frozen in Norway, but it is nice to see an World Showcase country get some attention more than adding a restaurant. While Mexcio got the adding character thing wrong, I think characters are good for Epcot. Let's face it, most families with young children are more likely to skip Epcot because they think it is boring or that there isn't enough stuff to do for kids. Nemo was a great example of transforming The Living Seas into something a little more fun while still being educational for kids. Sure we lost some great theming with Sea Base Alpha and the hydrolators, but it has been proven in research that products like cereal, candy, and even healthy foods are more enticing for children when they have characters on them. I don't see anything wrong with adding characters to help tell the story of a countries history or to learn about science. It just has to be done right.

Frozen deserves presence in the parks. Frozen easily has ties to Norway. Norway deserves an upgrade, but all that said, fitting Frozen into the Maelstrom location wouldn't work. Frozen isn't Norway and Norway isn't Frozen. The Frozen characters would be perfect for the princess dining in that location. I also like seeing the Frozen artwork and comparison in the Stave Church. I could also see a stage show created and a dark ride. Magic Kingdom is the best fit, but even a European section at Animal Kingdom that transitions into an arctic region would be a great way to introduce more animals, cultures, rides, and characters to Animal Kingdom.

I totally agree. I loved Epcot Center as a kid in the early nineties, but always found the seas boring, and really enjoy it now, especially turtle talk. I also don't get the love for Maelstrom, its an ok ride that's too short. I would welcome a refurbished ride with a Frozen theme especially if they made the attraction longer.

Frozen isn't Norway and Norway isn't Frozen.

Having just read the "Art of" book, I have to somewhat disagree. Everything about the film's visuals, from the architecture, to the fjords, to the rosemaling is directly influenced and rooted in Nordic culture. Other ideas based on Russian designs (for example) were scrapped to keep the movie's asthetic specific to one country. The movie is not a mix of northern European designs as I once thought it was. It is stylized to fit a fairy tale story, but it' is not devoid of cultural influence.

Now having said all of this, I would prefer Frozen be an addition, not a subtraction, should it have to come to Epcot. Building a spin-off land with new offerings and keeping everything in Epcot's Norway as is would be best IMO.

Aside from money which is always the biggest issue,, instead of replacing Maelstrom they have a perfectly good expansion pad between Norway and Mexico. They should be building a Frozen area/ride into that space and not turning Norway into a purely princess pavilion with a princess ride etc. They have already created havoc with the meetngreet chuffed in there. They need to expand into more space next door not continue to keep doing this stuff with no care for guest flow. Theres too many people anymore.

Surely Imagineering would like to use that expansion pad for such a project like the rumored princess meetngreet (dont you agree Martin? or..), (personally Id like to see a new country there but lets face it thats not going to happen) but I guess TDO and managment wants to pay as little as possible if at all on brand new concepts. Cheaper to take out something thats there and cram it in. And yes the Frozen characters should be in Akershus if they must have them at all, this princess overkill is really annoying, especially in what use to be my favorite pavilion.

To all dead set against characters in WS-what about a Snow Whites Scary Adventures added to Germany(let's not bring Rhine River Cruise into this) or Pinocchios Daring Journey added to Italy? Curious it anyone's opinion is different for the classics

Hey, I really liked that movie! It was interesting enough, and hardly long enough to bore anyone. The only way it could put someone to sleep is if they were already unconscious...

Now, The Living Seas was indeed in need of an update and refurbishment. While they did a better job integrating Nemo than I was actually expecting, it wasn't the direction they should have went in Future World.
